    Very nice video! I was a Rotary Exchange student in Kumamoto, Kyushu in 1979-80. I agree with many of the topics and points you make about adapting to life as a student in Japan. It took me about two weeks to realize that I couldn't learn Japanese by "translation"... I had to learn it by osmosis. I also immersed myself into to school and community. I changed school clubs frequently in the first couple months, before settling into Photography, Shodō and Judo. I am bringing my children (18 and 30!) to Japan this September. My first time back to Japan in 43 years. I wish that I had not waited so long. はじめまして , デビッド

    I love your video! I am currently in my first year of high school in America (I’m 15). And I wanted to know if the students were nice to you when you first got there? I also wanted to ask if you think going on my second year of high school is too late, hope to see more of your content, it was really helpful! :)

    I did Rotary 2011-2012! Japan was my first choice but I got Germany instead, Japan only took six people a year and was super popular. I really wish I had gotten it but I still had an amazing time in Berlin, Germany 😊 I definitely made the mistake of speaking too much English so I was not as fluent as I could have been when I left. I still want to move to Asia someday!

    Do you think the fact that rotary places you with several families throughout the year is a good or bad thing for your experience? Also how strict is their travel rules? Could you, say, take a train to your nearby city to explore for a few hours on the weekend or something like that?

  • @abikuru8564

    @abikuru8564

    2 жыл бұрын

    I think there are positives and negatives for sure! The reason you're placed with several families is so you have a well-rounded and diverse experience to see different ways of life in Japan. It can be hard when you fall in love with a family and you have to leave them. Sometimes your next family is...not as pleasant. There are good and bad host families. Luckily though, with this system you never have to stay with a bad family for more than 3 months. You are free to go to and from school by yourself. With friends, host family members, or other rotary students yes, you can visit a nearby city. I don't know how they'd feel about you going alone (but you could always lie! haha) but Rotary does have a strict curfew of 10pm.
