Because you asked: I'm pretty sure they kept focusing on the storm because, in reality, there WAS no storm happening. The storm was entirely in Andrew's mind, a reflection of his own inner turmoil and grief. The doctors just kept referring to a storm to guide his delusion and provide a reason why this "US Marshall" wouldn't be able to leave the island within the big experimental role-play they'd devised. Also, another small detail early on that suggests what we're seeing can't be trusted: when he's interviewing the nice lady who ax-murdered her husband, the cup of water in her hand disappears for a second *while she's drinking from it*. One shot it's there, then for a second she's holding nothing, then suddenly it's back. The moment also hints at the fact that Andrew hates water and mentally "edits" things out that he doesn't want to acknowledge or admit. Great reaction! :)

Horror....nobody can make a good horror movie
The ending was spoiled for me the weekend it came out so I never watched it. I watched it about a month ago and it was phenomenal. Since I knew the ending I spotted most of the hints sprinkled throughout the movie, and it was a pretty cool experience even though I knew the ending
The most beautiful thing about this movie is that it never tells you what's real, who's telling the truth, that way, the movie leaves it to our crazy imagination to finish this story. These kind of films are truly the greatest.

On my first viewing I was convinced that he was a real cop, and the facility was trying to drug him into becoming a patient so they could make money for it. I love how it makes you guess, because so many possibilities are left possible.

@TV PINES Is it impossible that he was cured during the events of the film and instead chose to go through with the lobotomy to rid himself of the painful memories?
What a great reaction. This is one of my favorite psychological thrillers. I knew you would enjoy this film. I can tell you enjoy films that make you question everything. Thanks Mike🥰

Shutter Island is one of those films that’s awesome but you can only enjoy it once cos the twist. I mean you can watch it back looking for the clues and red flags but you never get that same experience as watching it for the first time. Bit like The Usual Suspects. Still a great film with a great twist though. Really love this film

Two minutes in, I realized that this will be the first reaction I've watched of Mike's that I knew for sure he wouldn't figure out the plot. The author of the book it's based on also wrote "Mystic River" if you haven't seen that and want a similar type of mystery. "Gone Baby Gone" is another.
I lways felt like he snapped back to reality after the experiment, but then he'd have to live with the memory and pain of losing his kids and killing his wife so he'd rather go through with the lobotomy. Haven't watched this in a long time, but great movie. Love Leo!
One of my favourite films of all time! Can't wait for this
I've always believed that at the end he knew what he'd done but couldn't deal with it so he just consented to the lobotomy, I think that's why he ignored Chuck. But honestly this is one of my favourite movies and so well done, it never fails to blow my mind and I've seen it like 200 times. It's always fun to rewatch from the perspective of the drs... How they clearly didn't look for Rachel, how they all watched and stared at him sketched out. Not to mention the random things that Teddy (Andrew) was seeing that just didn't make sense, like the burned woman who shushed him at the beginning, that's his wife.
I think the movie totally gives a definitive ending. The whole movie is a study on perspective. The perspective the viewer is given is Teddy/Andrew's. The color grading finally changes to bright, clear colors showing the perspective of Teddy/Andrew has changed. Then of course there is that line " What's better? To live as a monster or die as a good man?" This line even makes the doctor question whether or not he has truly relapsed. This is why once DiCaprio is being led off to the lighthouse to be lobotomized he calls out "Teddy!" However, DiCaprio doesn't turn around or even acknowledge him, because he's NOT Teddy, he's Andrew. If you enjoyed this movie you should check out The Prestiege (if you haven't seen it already). It's another brilliant film.
I legit screeched when I saw this uploaded. Goddamn I love this movie!

Yeah for me not having read the book or anything I always interpreted the movies ending being Andrew sanely deciding to get the lobotomy so he doesn’t have to live with the knowledge of everything that quick little eye movement he does after saying “or die as a good man” says it all I believe

The line itself makes it so obvious
Im so hyped for this haha
People say the ending is that he was brought back to reality but can't cope with what he did, there was a video I saw on this on how "Teddy" is very black and white and because of this as well leads him to chose being lobotomized

Yeah seems to be like he lied about still being delusional despite the therapy working and allowing him to break free of his delusions. Very very sad ending
Shutter island is one of my all time favorites. I dont rewatch it often, I havent seen it in probably a couple of years, but it's always good
I really enjoyed how this movie picked your brain as it went along; and the ending is so amazing as it’s never truly been explained. I loved this film the first time I saw it. Really makes you spark your imagination. Another good one for the books mike!
Shutter Island and Inception were released the same year, and DiCaprio had very similar tragic backstories in both.
your 2nd thought about the end is the true one. he just surrender to be labotomized cause the pain is just too much for him. i guess the novel stated that answer on indirect way

The question DiCaprio says at the end "What do you think is worse: to live as a monster or die as a good man?" really makes me wonder, if he intentionally "relapsed" to voluntarily be lobotomized.

Excellent movie, I’m going to rewatch it!
Mark Wahlberg was Marky Mark, Mark Ruffalo never went why that name.
One of my favorite movies ever
those "punchable faces" u see in the movie is a genius thing.. it is what ppl who are mentally in a very bad place see, they think that every1 is smirking at them in a degrading way and thinks every1 is out to harm them in some way It is such a good movie, cuz u get emotionally attached to him and u want the best for him, which is why u kind of want to believe til the end that he is in the right :) Nice reaction, I love endings like these that leaves u a bit clueless of what is actually going on U should also check out these if u liked this: "Secret window" "The number 23"

I love how subtle the ending is. Teddy didn't have a relapse, he wanted to forget what he now remembers. So he opted to play sick and get lobotomized.
You were right on the second , he just gave in
such a good & iconic movie. top 10 oat
It really isn't that open. His final quote eludes to him choosing to get the procedure because he doesn't want to live with the memory.

This movie should have deserved a longer reaction....
Psychosis is really something difficult to understand, thats why you took a hard time who to believe in. Leo's character was suffering from psychosis. An alcoholic war veteran who's seen his dead kids' bodies and killed his own wife. It's impossible not to turn crazy after this.
I'm of the belief that at the end he does know. Based on what he says to Mark Ruffalo, and because that makes it so much better for me (in a sad way)
You should watch American sniper shits gassss

I’ve seen American sniper! Solid movie 👌🏻
The ending was nuts, not just the plot twist but the s entente Leonardo said at the end “who would you rather be: live as a monster, or die as a good man?” Him saying that, and breaking through his cycle of mental illness proves he was conscious and was willingly letting them lobotomize him so he could intentionally forget his past and all the trauma. On the other hand, the doctors only want to lobotomize him if he continues his cycle, so is it morally right for Mark Ruffalo’s character to let Leonardo’s character go and get lobotomized? It’s basically assisted suicide at that point.
The giveaway line here is, "That's the Kafka-esque genius of it": For those who haven't read Franz Kafka--and Scorsese's read PLENTY of it--most of his books were surreal allegories where a character wanders through a wild goose chase searching for some Macguffin, meets a variety of bureaucratic figures hinting at some Nameless Conspiracy, and ultimately ends up crushed by it, never to escape. Yes: This movie is two hours of Scorsese's Kafka Fanboy-Fiction. (And "After Hours" did it better.)
YAY MY FAV MOVIE IM GLAD YOU LOVED IT🤍
Who the hell is this dude holy shit thank you algorithm 😍
You should watch the Belko Experiment
Have you ever watched "Mystic River"?
If you havent reacted to Inception yet, I would highly recommend.
Yo. Possessor by David Cronenberg... He's the son of the dude that did the fly. It's a sci-fi horror flick and trippy as fuck.
Are you from Boston? Just when I thought I couldn’t like this channel anymore!
You should watch blood diamond or the departed
You should review The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. That keeps you interested in a few ways. But there are some graphic details and moments in the movie Also, I’m pretty sure they made this movie so the studio would have the money for Wolf Of Wall Street.

Worth the anticipation
I'm kinda sad you didn't put that last line in, sort of hinting that he may realize he's insane and that, at that moment of lucidity, he's going to let them lobotomize him cause he has nothing and no one to live for and he'd rather go out knowing who he is rather than continue to be insane and hurt more people.
Bro you have to watch the sixth sense
I know it's cliche to say, but the book is so much better. Some of the plot points in here don't even really make sense without reading the book. One of my all-time favorites.
'Is he crazy or are they still playing games ?' Yes.
WATCH TAKE SHELTER WITH MICHEAL SHANNON AND JESSICA CHASTAIN ;)
Isn't Marky Mark a nick name for actor Mark Wahlberg . 🤔
I read the book before seeing the movie and though the film leaves a lot to the viewers imagination the book explains how he truly has been a patient there for years after killing his wife. She did in fact drown their children. All of it is too much for him and he chooses to get a lobotomy so he'll no longer be haunted by it all. The movie was very, very faithful to the book. Amazing film
