I Was Kidnapped In The Brazilian Slums (

You have to be ready for anything in Brazil. This was my first week in the country, and I was in a part that most foreigners never visit: the city of Boa Vista in Roraima, in the far north of the country. It's a mid-sized and relatively peaceful city, but there were some parts that the locals warned me about. The slums, the favelas. One day, I found myself taking a casual stroll there.

They were obviously not strangers. They were camera ready dressed up, hair done etc & the fake slap at the beginning was obviously planned along w/ how quickly she came up to him & immediately knew he was American, followed by them spending the day w/ him. The ending was planned to keep up the ruse that it was a random encounter & him saying "no you're supposed to keep walking" shows they planned the ending.

I’m an American living in Minas Gerais, Brasil. I think sometimes people are scared of certain areas just because they are more poor. I live rural and you have to pass a poor neighborhood on the way to my house. I had a friend who lived in the city who was scared to even drive by the area! I laughed at her. I was like these people are nice. I give them rides to and from town. Just wave or honk and say, “Oi,” to people, and they’re nice to you, in general.

American living in the hills around Rio :) I also have never had issues. Since I'm a foreigner, I can get away with seemingly just about anything as long as filming/a phone isn't involved....I remained blissfully ignorant that a staircase here was forbidden for 4 years. I only found out after my local friend went up it with me and they decided to "give her permission" to use the staircase. They left me alone. Some areas here require you to stop, roll your windows down, and blink your lights before entering. I hear the stories of my coworkers, who live in favelas, and I can respect why people have fear as the same "nice" people I've probably passed on the street may have executed brutal community justice the other day.

Ended up visiting (and drinking with) his many friends. Celebrated Christmas in a Moscow flat with all his friends and neighbors. I think no matter where in the world you go, when you set out on your own you'll end up meeting friendly and interesting people.

Spot on. It’s the true importance of what I call nature flow. Letting go of all the fears and illusions media and schooling of social cognitive dissonance can create to scare people into being afraid of new people. The thing to remember is we are all human living souls and often they will say poor countries are more dangerous or you can not trust such people, however I have discovered for myself the complete opposite , that in every case I witnessed, that they actually are more honest and caring and ethical to respecting others. In fact by fearing people or events you create and manifest a negative experience and it’s when action comes to reality shows what true or real person you are. It’s very nice to see there are some Americans who know about the nature flow of allowing life to be real and this makes you be wise. Living in the now moment. Letting go of all thoughts , every situation will work out just how it was destined and meant to be. I call this the sacred inevitable serendipity. ~E.G.Plott~

I had friends in Sao Paolo, but arrived there alone and made my way to a friend's apartment. The doorman already knew all about me and had the key ready when I walked up to him. I also went out one day by myself and came beack before dark, but wandered around a lot in the daytime near Placa de Republica for shopping. The only reasonable explanation I can think of is why I watch people get shot is that I can watch it safely at home, from a safe distance, comfortably lying on the couch with a nice cup of coffee or tea. That's not the issue. There are normal people (98%?) and there are criminals (2%?). Normal people may like you or not but they'll not try to rob you each way. Criminals will try to rob you regardless of whether you are friendly or not. In fact, if you are friendly, they'll try to exploit your perceived naiveté. Yes, if you are friendly, (normal) people will be friendlier to you but the issue of safety - whether someone will point a gun at you to try to get your phone - is a different matter. He knew them before making the video. It was all setup, between the tree of them. At the begining and at the end you can also tell, by the way the girls speak, that it was scripted. They speak in an unatural way, like bad actors do. Also, note how at the end he says "you are suposse to keep going". They didn't actually split up after he stoped filming. They migth be randon girls he met somehow or they migth be prostitutes he payed to have some fun with, but they didn't actually meet at the begining of the video, that's for sure.

Fun fact: that same episode showed Brazilians being chased by hordes of monkeys. The government of Brazil was very offended and threatened to sue Fox network and thr shows producers for showing the country in a negative light/hitting tourism. Eventually it blew over. A few seasons later the Simpsons were trying to decide where to go for vacation. Homer “I would say Brazil, but I heard the monkey problem is even worse!” Many years later ( after the show went really downhill and I quit watching) the family returned to Brazil to watch the worlds cup game ( I think Homer was a ref)

16:22 she said "de dia não" = during the day, no! . that is, at night it is quite dangerous, and of course, this will depend on the place and state, here in RJ for example, it is EXTREMELY dangerous

Nice one. Reminds me of when I visited Brazil in the 90s. Had a great time, great people. Had heaps of fun ... Except that time we got car jacked in Sao Paulo... but that was the only really bad thing that happened, but we moved on & had a really good time after that. Great vids man.
