I’m so glad you found him! Not everyone would have picked up a baby duckling off the ground. He wouldn’t have survived without you! Edit:How did I literally just found out? This comment has 316 likes ? 👁️ 👄 👁️ Thanks ! Oh also I think I might be the most liked comment now ? 😜

Animals are amazing at adapting to injury’s that disable them. They are better at it than most adult humans are after limb loss. I’m a year and 3 months learning life as a below the knee amputation. It’s not been an easy year physically or mentally.

The warm spot definitely did wonders! I think they helped to dry him off and regulate his body temp. If I remember correctly I think duck mommas share their waterproofing oil with their babies so he must have been freezing without it

We found a lone gosling the other day at the river. Came right up to us. We spent hours looking for it's family with no luck. A bad wind/ rain storm had happened earlier that day. We called the vet he said to keep it overnight and call the wildlife centre in the morning. So we did. Unfortunately the centre couldn't take him so we went back to the river for several more hours. Ultimately we were able to reconnect the gosling with it's family ❤

So I rescued a squirrel. I live in Sault Ste Marie Canada. I brought it to a an animal century in Sudbury. Latest ended up grabbing the squirrel throwing in a box. Which I was very concerned about and they told me not to worry. The next day I called and found out they put him down. I kept the little guy alive for over a week. I was so heartbroken. It makes me hard to trust places like this ever again. By the way I'm pretty sure that one place is shut down now in sudbury. Those people were horrible.

My best friend and her mother rescue stray cats and kittens and sadly a parasitic infection hit the neighborhood by storm and killed 7 of the kittens. 2 of the ones I was going to take in passed leaving only Pluto among the ones I will get later. It was very hard for them and she still blames herself for not noticing sooner. May the babies rest in peace.

Its almost fully healed because the yolk actually was absorbed. What you seen is a bloody umbilical stump. May have seperated during hatch a little close, with all the kicking they do to get the shell off it doesnt surpeise me that his umbilical stump was a bit bloody. I dont believe for a second there was any predation. That belly button is not a predator wound. Lol The reason its almost" fully healed" is because there wasnt anythiing really wrong to begin with. Its something that happens during hatch. Ive raised birds over 10 years and done wild life rehabber at one time.. it takes lots of hands on experience. My specialty was birds. I explained somewhere else that what happens is a duck lays one egg per day. Once she has laid a clutch she sits on them 28 days. They start pipping on that day and mom will remain on the nest for 3 days awaiting the rest to hatch. She will then get up and cut her losses. Assuming all eggs aren't viable. This does not mean that there isnt late hatchers. It could have very well already started to hatch as mom and babíes were leaving. And babies and mom may have stepped on the hatching duck while leaving. Giving it a stressed hatch which its why the umbilicus pulled away a bit to close leaving a little bloody stump. I stopped on each frame and carfully looked. The baby had his yolk sack. The yucky stuff inside the egg was just afterbirth. You should ALWAYS keep some chick crumble on hand. And invest in an incubator.( Not just fir baby birds but all other small neonatal babies)😂 Baby may be lacking vitamins. You should always keep "Save A Chick" ( electrolytes) they could use some selenium, vitamin B ect. Not aure keeping him tucked in over night was the best thing.... He may need a home made brace to keep his feet placed right. Im not going to go into all that . My sugestion for you is to find someone who has birds, chickens ect and examine a fresh wet hatchling. When you do, look at the umbilicus. Take note if what it looks like. Another thing you need to learn is how to mix chick crumble and use a pipette to fill its crop. I invite you to look me up ( facebook preferably) so if you need some quick advice and cant get ahold of rehab, feel free to message me.

I had a mouse - a fuzzy - named Chance because he was originally supposed to be food for a young Kenyan sand boa, who refused to eat him as he was too big, so my ex and I tried to hand raise him with kitten formula and I think we tried to wean him too early and he unfortunately didn't make it. We didn't fully know what we were doing. Fly high, mousey Chance. I hope ducky Chance makes it.
