I Want Mom to Be Happy-The Work of Byron Katie®

A son desperately wants to please his mother. "I want Mom to tell me that she loves me." "Mom should stop saying no." "I need her to enjoy something I give her." When he believes these thoughts, he is miserable. When he questions them, he realizes that he doesn't need her to do or be anything.

My guess is John grew up with a mother who made him feel he was (subconsciously) "not good enough", and thus his continued efforts to prove his worth. I have the same mother; and would have had the exact same worksheet. Once I realized others' actions, thoughts, feelings, beliefs, etc are out of my control, I gained the "freedom" to let go of the ever-present guilt I've carried my entire life trying to make her happy. Thank you so much for this video and your honesty John!

My mom has this sort of problem with my dad. He just likes to do simple, quiet things around the house, and she thinks he's depressed because he doesn't go out more and do things away from home. I told her that maybe those simple things make him happy, not all the stuff out of doors, like the things that make her happy. A light bulb went on over her head, and I've noticed, since then, they hardly ever fight anymore. :)

Wow....I was so moved at the fact this guy volunteered to come on stage in front of the group, as it's being taped, knowing it has the potential to reach a lot of people.....all to talk about his "Mother" issues. What an example for other men. I thought of using the word Courage but it just didn't have the same feel or impact. BK, you just simply rock girl! To the bone.....I always benefit and seem to break through one of my own issues whenever I watch. Thank you!! Love and Peace to your heart.

hey, brilliant, & yes i could see his reluctance when he first sat down, like, oh god, what've i got myself into, but he put his head down & dug in. kinda like a friend of mine in high school, when he sat down with his dad & told him that his girlfriend was pregnant. dad told him, "well son, there's only one thing u can do, when u bite off more than u can chew..." & my friend is looking at his dad, hoping he's got the answer, like,"yeah, and?" & dad says "you start chewing!" Edit: they married, 3 kids, last time i saw him, seemed like it was all meant to be.

And am finally learning how to let them live their own lives and either be happy or sad and not blame myself for their sadness or take credit for their happiness! Instead, I am loving myself and taking care of myself - and they are taking great care of themselves. We are free.

I never judged her or had words with her It made her happy so I was happy . I smiled and said I wish I had courage to do that, I’d love a bigger piece. Not everyone in our group was happy I wish my children had the same frame of mind when it comes to myself . I feel like they are always wanting to change me and not like me for who I am. I would like to get to know my adult children but they are resistant in having me around them.

Fabulous, BK! The mind is a powerful thing. It's both that keeps us bound, and the vehicle that brings us to the awareness of our natural state of being: Existence, Consciousness, and Bliss Absolute. Hmmm... Without stopping and questioning our beliefs, we create so much drama--which in turn creates resentments, conflicts--not to mention the energy that's wasted. This video in particular gave me great insight into my relationship with my 70 year old mom/caregiver. (Imagine my guilt--my mom taking care of me. I'm so lucky I have her!) I realize I need to listen to her, and stop trying to get her to relax and take time for herself. She's told me a million times that it makes her happy to take care of me, yet I continually tell her she's be much happier if she would take more time for herself. She already told me what makes her happy. It's time for me to listen! :) I've come to realize that my wishing she would relax more is MY guilt. I thank you dearly for these videos Katie. They remind me to remember to stop...and question my thoughts. Happy Christmas!

Thank you so much for sharing this video. It highlighted again for me that believing my thoughts hinders me so much to see and thus enjoy life to the utmost!

Excelente terapia. A todos nos puede ayudar con todas las personas que están cerca, y con quienes queremos tener una relación más tranquila, amorosa y menos conflictiva para nuestro ser.
