7:30 - 8:00 Damn, over a billion people have witnessed such drastic changes in just one generation. As an outsider, how dare I speak of what they should think about their government that we all hate in the west despite knowing close to nothing about them? We just know a couple of thing and I think that's not enough (and fair) to encapsulate such a country. This whole conundrum sounds so manifest destiny-esque to me.

If people from the West say there is no freedom in China, they should watch this travel episode. Gypsy’s house with all his art work is simply amazing…i am an artist in the US, i just can’t believe how great his art work is -full to the brim up to the ceilings! Plus he got to model, and he is a trans, how great is that-- he got full expression and acceptance! And friend in Chongqing she and her family were so wonderfully welcoming, so full of joy and appreciation of their lives. And your Yangzhou friend speaks such good English, and so good looking. Wow, i am so happy for you! You are an ambassador of peace! 👍👍👍🩷🩷🩷👍👍👍

I mean KZread stores all of it's data in a server house sitting somewhere so even if a plane happened to coincidentally crash in the exact same spot - say goodbye to KZread you know? It's kinda crazy to think how fragile and vulnerable our data on the internet really is - from our photos in the cloud, to our money in the bank. I think we lean a bit too heavily on this little web i'm afraid. Anyways, all of this just to say: I downloaded this video :)

I went to China in 1992, stayed for two years, met my wife while being a guest on her radio show, and never looked back (We ended up producing our own radio show together). Now 30+ years later, watching you interact with individuals who will become your lifelong friends, I'm feeling an affinity for when I first stepped off the plane in Shanghai on my way to my teaching gig in Hangzhou. I had a used Pentax Super Program and I captured as many photographs as I could throughout my time there in the early 90s. There's a nice thread between what I saw during those days and your storytelling in 2023. I was in Chongqing in 1993 for a day before boarding the ferry to travel through the now submerged Three Gorges. Chongqing was extra surreal to me then, now it looks like a super-charged extension of Shanghai on an even more techno-futuristic scale. I'm looking forward to going back there. Cheers!

These individuals are all so different and yet equally as beautiful. I will never understand people who want everyone to be the same. This film highlights three seemingly average stories and brings us into their respective narrative worlds. Each of them is so meaningful in their own way, and each of them has something to teach. Someday Luke, you will be so much bigger, and the voices you empower will help shape the future. From a fellow enjoyer of human beings and all of their respective worlds, thank you.

This film is beautiful. As I was indirectly meeting all of these people through you, I was thinking of the question “are people shaped by culture or is culture shaped by people?”. I am not sure but I think it might be both and I think I like the idea of humans being molded by culture and others over time. But more than that it shows how the basic emotions of humanity are included in every culture. Sadness, joy, adventure, love. Deep down we are all not very different Anyways, as someone who is not able to travel at this time in my life, I really enjoy your stories that you share, thank you :)

This video essay and love letter only makes it all more obvious: it's people that make a place, not the location. The fact that you met such cool people and have connections like this would stand in stark contrast to if you went to these places alone and didn't meet these people. Amazing film work, and so cool the video. Like for example opening on gypsy. What a human being, amazing! ❤
