I've Replaced The Timing Chain On My VW Polo 1.2 Tsi But Will It Actually Start?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
We are finally at the point of no return, I've put everything back, and it's time to start the engine. Will it start and run, let's find out. I've nearly messed up a few times now, but I've noticed in time. Can I still save this badly neglected engine and get this VW Polo R Line back on the road.
I've never replaced a timing chain before so this is a massive challenge, especially on a neglected 1.2 tsi engine. As I delve deeper into the engine I'm finding more problems. Can I actually pull it off and replace the timing chain or is the engine knackered.
Hopefully, I can pull it off and actually fix the engine faults, The EPC and Engine light are on, but The engine has a misfire, Is the timing chain stretched or is it knackered.

Remember with sealant application less is more.
The hydraulic tappet noise during the first start is normal after a timing chain job. Mine did the same, just wait a while that they fill up with oil.
Excellent work. Keep your chin up
Good job extremely demanding process. For this tsi engines use only mann filter oil filter (grey colour) or the original because only these filter produce the right oil pressure
Nice work fella👍🏻🏴
When replacing a sump etc with wet silicon on the flange it helps to put in 2 extra long bolts at opposite ends with the heads cut off to line up the sump and then remove them after you get dome original ones back in.
Well done for u trusting your gut and more back on track for going forward 👍🎉🎉

One step forward 🙏
With your angles , paint mark at 12 o'clock then you can tell how far you've gone 90°at 3 o'clock. Keep up good work
The correct oil viscosity hopefully should sort the ticking noise🤞

It is the correct viscosity.
great job!!
Your torque wrench probably needs recalibrating or possibly replacing, there supposed to be recalibrated annually (IIRC) when in regular use but hobby use they should last longer

I use it daily for work buddy and is calibrated by my company, that’s why I used it instead of my own personal one, but thanks for the advice
Think your brill fella. You give anything a go.. Don't be so hard on yourself. Your a good mechanic buddy. Look forward to next video.
Love you detailed video and determination! Pls, i have a Polo 9n3,2005, 60kmiles, 1.4 FSI, 16V. I have a rattle for 2, 3 seconds, only at cold start, if the car stays for weeks parked(usually stays 1 mont or more and after that 60miles roadtrip outside the city). Did you see the guides beeing cracked or the hidraulic tensioner beeing stuch(or tje spring loose)? Any advise is great. Thank you!
Fantastic job Leon!! Well done mate, you should be very proud of yourself!! You are doing everything professionally & not cutting any corners. You are an inspiration mate!! I really hope you sale the Audi really soon 🚗🙏🤞 All the best to you & all the family mate 😊👍
try it with the air box and filter on?
Yeah that does not sound right. Try driving it at highway speeds (High rpm) and then change the Oil to 0W/30 507.000 which is the revised Oil for these engines (and all older TSI’is). I think the engine just need to be driven with clean oil

Thanks for the advice! Keeping the engine running smoothly is definitely crucial, and I'll look into your suggestion for the oil change.
Sounds like a sticky hydraulic lifter
What mileage is on this engine?

The mileage is currently on 105k but has been poorly maintained in its later life by the previous owners

Engine flush is over priced ... Half a can of full coke an run it for 50miles an does top job no need for expensive flushes
Save yourself money and just use 500ml of diesel instead of that overpriced Wynns garbage. Done me well over 44 years many cars no problems.
