I was knocked down hard by a stroke in Feb, I'm 32,my life was over, I just wasn't aware. Almost a full 6 months ago, I couldn't do anything without help, apparently there's a force inside us that moves us to a better place, if we work hard, and have faith. Forward thinking big brother. 💪💪💪

I am 65 now and 13 months ago I had a back surgery in Seattle. I had 10 vertebrates fused and they replaced the bottom four discs. This past year I’ve watched a lot of KZread and pushed myself hard at exercising to the recover from this operation. I am at the swimming pool five days a week and ride my bike for seven or eight hours each week. This week I will start taking some private yoga training. I do have some pain in my feet from nerve damage , some of that occurred before my operation. I had just retired and planned on finish remodeling my house and spending many hours in the workshop but life sometimes has other ideas. Overall I feel pretty good I’ve spent most of this last week working in the workshop probably 8 to 10 hours every day except when I’m riding my bike or swimming. Good luck Allen from Alaska

Izzy, I would like to recommend The Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. I have spinal stenosis and was out and on my back for several months, after corrective surgery, I'm back in my workshop. They're #1 in the USA for orthopedic issues. God bless you and I wish only the best for you!

Hey Izzy. I've never posted anything here until now. Sure hate to hear about you friend. Not to steal Alan's thread, but another option is to maybe check into a disk replacement? I am from ILL, and my wife was the first in the state to have such a surgery. She blew out her lower back while at work, she bent over at the waist and could not straighten up. It's been about 13, 14 years or so now, and she has had no trouble whatsoever. I have recommended it to others aw well. If you have not checked into it, I'd sure recommend giving it some thought. :-)

Just thought I'd throw my two cents in since I've unwillingly become an expert on this issue. I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, and two herniated discs (L4-L5-S1) about a decade ago and since then I've tried just about everything that exists to no avail. Like what Izzy stated in his video, I was given no real option other than fusion so I opted for a laminectomy and discectomy first but that failed within a month post op and I was forced into fusion. Ever since then I've had leg pain that goes from being just a nuisance to being downright debilitating but the most frustrating part is being shuffled off from doctor to doctor, trying everything from physical therapy to experimental drugs to spinal stimulation, etc etc the list goes on and on. I glad it worked out in your cases but from what I've found out after the fact there are so many failures that they even have a diagnosis to go along with it "failed back surgery syndrome".

Izzy I can identify with your situation since I suffer from a similar condition. I have the additional handicap of a low income. I am only 1/2 a block from great bus service so I am able to get to MOST places I need to go to on public transportation. I am working on a device to make it much easier to get around in a wheelchair. When I finish the prototype I would like to donate one to you for your evaluation. Maybe around Christmas you will have a package from me. BTW your mind is your biggest advantage.

I'm a T5 complete paraplegic since I was 21yrs old from a DUI car accident. I've started two successfully businesses, paid off my house and cars, got married, went sky diving, river rafting, and lead a very full, independent life. You're only as limited as you think you are. Stay out of that chair as long as you can. Sitting will limit your mobility and ruin your health. I've got no choice since I can't move or feel from the chest down. But all it does is slow me down a bit. A wheelchair can't stop us. It can only challenge us.

Izzy I am dealing with the same thing only my doctors didn’t give it a name yet. I lost my countertop business due to it and threw me into a deep downward spiral for a few years. This video has been inspirational. I look forward to see how you deal with the handicap within your shop. I hope to rebuild a hobby shop for myself. I tried to fill the void by building using a 3D sketching program, but it doesn’t replace being in the shop. Best of luck to you and I will be joining Mahers Playground.

I too, have that condition. I had a fusion at L4, L5 20 years ago. It's not perfect but, I still play golf 2 to 5 times a week walking the course, no riding cart. Physical therapy and weight loss helps, too. I'm not up on the latest advances for this. I still have pain but that's what pills are for. There's not much I can't do within reason. I hope you are able to have better results than I did. All the best.

Do your pain pills still work? I had fusion at L4-L5-S1 and they've been throwing opiates at me ever since but they no longer do the job.

@@thenextstepp I take Tramadol. I may be unique because after 20 years my dosage is the same and it still takes the pain away. Any use of other drugs or alcohol will cause problems.

@@Mutant_11 Wow thats great then. I've been on mophine for a while now (which has cause a ton of weight gain). I don't use anything other drugs and never drank so I'm not sure what the deal is. Recently I have been looking into Ketamine. Neurologists in my area have been using it to fix all sorts of neuro related problems.

Iz. hang in there man! been dealing w/tethered spinal cord all my life; but has not gotten bad until the last 10yrs. many times, as we get older; the difficulties we've "just ignored" in the past catch up w/us. please don't rely on "just the doctors"; some are just stuck with what they learned once 25 yrs. ago!?! many times, foreign research, is ahead of us here in the Great Ole USA (it is in my area of pain anyway). best to you and yours. don't give up on yourself. rgrds. walt
