I Try Walking 100,000 Steps In A Day - This was A LOT Harder Than Expected...

Coronavirus has meant staying at home at lot more than usual. To make sure that I keep moving, I decided to take things to the extreme by trying to walk 100,000 steps in a day.
I don't think I've ever walked more than 50,000 steps in one day before, let alone 100,000. I'd seen a few videos on KZread of people trying to take on this insane challenge and thought about it for a while. How hard could it be? Boy, was I naïve and wrong.
So, I woke up at the crack of dawn, loaded up my backpack with enough food and drink for the day, put on my sports watch, and started walking in any and every direction I could. Could I really succeed in this monumental feat of covering 100,000 steps in a single day?
This is the story of how I try walking 100,000 steps in a day.

Well done! I did it myself around the time you did it, during lockdown in The Netherlands. I was actually thinking to do it again because of the new restrictions (well that got me watching videos about it again haha). It made me feel alive! What you describe at the end is so true: the feeling of that achievement and the feeling of experiencing 3 days instead of 1. Also the video is nicely put together, I did not record much and thinking back I should have done that.

I do have a suggestion to easily get the calories you need and if you absolutely cant eat another bite of food drink olive oil.Highest steps i ever walked in one day was 39,000 steps. My average was 20,000-25,000 a day.Had no intention of doing it and at the time i was having trouble staying asleep at the time and would wake up around 1 am -3 am and would go for a walk.I was eating at that time around 5000 calories and some days i just couldn’t eat anymore so olive oil was a good way to get calories i needed without feeling stuffed

Thank you! There hasn't been a next time just yet in terms of walking 100,000 steps, but I've certainly done 100,000 steps in a day at least twice during some ultra marathons. Believe it or not, they felt much easier on the feet than walking 100,000 steps! 50,000 steps is a massive amount, congrats. If I was to do 100,000 steps again, I would try and make the scenery more exciting (but keeping it flat) so it didn't feel like such a slow, maybe exploring a new city somewhere

I was in lots of pain afterwards, had blisters, skin peeling off my feet etc. I've done ultramarathons where I've run over 100,000 steps in a day but my feet didn't hurt as much then compared to after this walking challenge. Walking is a different type of stress on your feet altogether compared to running, more time on the ground! 18,000 steps a day is a decent amount and brilliant to maintain fitness, nice work.
