This is one of the most enjoyable videos from tenhun I've watched and I've followed him for years. As artists we all wish to have the time, money and space to just build up a wall, go ham on it and test new art supplies. It's really satisfying to watch someone do something so fun while sharing nitpicky details about the supplies (just like conversations I have with my artist friends), on top of that his art style is so pleasant to watch come to life and it's impressive that he just freestyled the whole thing. Absolutely loved the vid, thank you Peter ❤

I agree. As a fellow artist, I definitely wish I had a free wall to paint freestyle on. I love that unlike a lot of artists he incorporates his logo into his artwork. So his logo is noticeable, however it doesn't stick out like a massive eye sore or take away your attention to his artwork.

As someone who's worked in home improvement stores for several years, eggshell and satin are the two I recommend with doing murals overall. It'd really depend on the base your painting over - drywall, brick, concrete, ect. So I'd recommend doing a small test spot for others in a little section with some samples so you can see the reactions of your painting supplies.

I been using the Elmer’s Painters markers since day one in my art career (est2012). The surface will affect the opacity of the black. I’ve tried the Montana’s, but they bleed when varnished over. The Painters markets have zero bleed when varnished over. I also like to manipulate the paint with my fingers on the canvas and the painters allows enough time to do so before drying.

@@carriebeachey7130 haha yeah, I use Liquitex gloss varnish over all my canvases and it makes the montana's bleed. I love the Elmer's Painters markers, but they're becoming more and more difficult to find around me. I usually get them at Wally world but the black are commonly stolen by kids to do graffiti. So Walmart has changed the way they package them and it's becoming more and more difficult to find what I need.

I feel like I can comment on this. I have a huge detailed black on white mural in my office that I did. I love it. It’s not totally finished but it’s so so so detailed. It’s taking about 3 mins per square inch and it’s a huge wall I have every single uniposca available. All sizes and all colours. I have about 200 - 300 Molotow markers. Montana I have like 30-40. And so many more. Just an idea of what I like. Anyway. Posca is my fave for consistency. Water based and covers well first time. I only wish they had some gloss options and maybe oil based. Pentouch are oil based but the nibs wear down so quick and they blow out easily. Liquitex are so enjoyable to use and they have like a nice glossy coat. They are easy to control and are opaque Montana is my second fave for coverage and control but they need a better tip variety. Uni paint is actually a dark horse for me. The 0.7mm is useless on walls as it picks up debris so easily and ends up dried out but rhe bullet tip is amazing in my opinion and has a gorgeous glossy finish. I use it sometimes to go over my posca lines if I want some gloss in there. Great paint and satisfying. Molotow again are good as long as u use the right nib. Paints flow and the coverage is consistent but the tips seem to dry out more than others. I’m not sure why. They have a great covers all in copper and it’s beautiful when it dries. U get a copper sheen when the light hits. OTR is more graffiti and is fairly runny. Depends on the effect u want but I stay away from it at home on paper and my mural. Sharpie oil paint markers in bigger nib sizes have a nice gloss sheen. They don’t get too sticky like some oils can. Dries quickly too so when ur going over lines with colours ur normally good. Those are the ones that stand out for me anyway. I love markers right now with my mural and I’ve learned so much since I started it.

I love this video concept and the effort and research you did for it. As always the sound and editing is superb. My only suggestion/idea for a follow up video, as someone who uses paint markers is a further comparison video(s) where you show a colored/white paint marker going over top a solid color. Besides murals, most people use paint markers for tagging, graffiti lettering, small scale stuff, showing how they work on say figures, props, plastic and vinyl items and then showcasing their coverage over various different surfaces too and not just a prepped wall would truly show the range of each marker(paper/canvas, wood, metal, plastic, stone, brick, vinyl, glass). There's sites out there like artprimo and some others that specialize in other brands and styles, including a wide range of diy ones that would allow you to use your Golden acrylic paint, and other higher quality paints that are probably better quality then what most paint markers use. Also can't stress this enough Moltov markers are stupid pricey and most of them IMO aren't worth paying the price. The huge exception though is their liquid chrome series. Stupid expensive, but I swear it turns anything into chrome, with basically a mirror finish, you could do easily an entire awesome project just on that product.

Hullo Peter, Excellent video and paint marker reviews! I have had a few different experiences than you did in this video, but you do murals professionally and I while I have done them for money, just not on your scale! I still prefer to use a good filbert brush and a can of paint when working on the vertical plane. Sweet video, thanks for the opinions!

I was hoping you would love the Montana. Never tried them on walls but they are great on canvas and the easy of refills and nib replacement is a bonus! I like molotows paint flow but their nibs used to tear down super fast.

love this content and the mural even more. the good thing about molotow is that they are refillable...

the Pen-Touch markers are from Sakura, who also make the illustrator favorite Micron. I'm not sure that they are meant for this type of application, but I've had a lot of success using them in my (relatively) smaller illustration work. the gold and silver are especially nice. they are definitely oil based. great vid as usual!

That is what I call a review!! Many thanks, some of us don't have the finances to do such a test.
