I started reading comments under this video and I came up with an interesting variant - Nuke Chess (do NOT confuse with Atomic Chess). In Nuke Chess everything goes as normal, with one exception. The king can once (only once) in entire game launch a nuke. A nuke can go in any direction a queen can go, but it crashes on the first piece it meets and you cannot choose a different spot for it, just the pieces and board edges that could be reached by the king if it was a queen. When a nuke hits a piece, it explodes like in atomic chess - the piece or pawn that is hit is removed from the board and the pieces (not pawns) surrounding it are removed, too. To win you need to deliver a checkmate or explode your enemy's king. You can hit your own pieces but you cannot put your own king in danger due to an explosion. This rule changes the strategy a bit, as you have to care a bit more about king's safety and you have to be careful about your best pieces. For example if you set up a battery of two rooks or a rook and a queen and use it to check the king, it can be nuked and all your most valuable pieces are gone. This also makes pawns more valuable. However the gameplay changes aren't as crazy as in Atomic Chess, as each player has only one nuke.

Well that’s a terrible move for a few reasons, the first one is that he doesn’t have to take on f4, but even if he does take, there is bishop e6 to block my check and there’s no mate and I just lost another knight
