This brings me back. My mom was a wedding cake designer and used to make us bentos in school. Since I was the only kid who had one, everyone thought it was kinda cool. The teachers who watched us at lunch would ask to take pictures of my lunch to show the other teachers. Low-key the worst part of growing up is not getting one each lunch.

As someone who has made a little bit of bento before (but nothing as elaborate as the stuff in the video), I have to agree. From what I’ve been able to make I thought her first attempt would look a ton worse than it did 😂

Daidus is in this video. He needs to make a 10 hour ASMR of him eating your bento boxes. “Mmm *gloppy eating* mmm”

Honestly that Kero is just as cute as that Pikachu. It's really impressive how you can make something so great with such simple design principles.

a little tip for the people trying to do bento boxes for the first time- clean as you go!!! it will help you out so much and it will make you less confused. cooking is already a big overwhelming task so having a clean/easy accessible station is a huge help! :) (i’ve done bento boxes for a year now for my wife’s work)

Hey I don't think the first bentos were bad at all! Just a little bit funny looking but it was your first attempt alone so you can't expect perfection! This video was really enjoyable and kudos to you for learning a new skill and letting Connor and daidus taste test! After putting that hard work into making them, it'd be difficult for me to let others taste test lol but the way they devoured them is its own reward.

I just love that Kaho seems to be in so many videos I've been watching lately here on YT, she's just so cool and definitely seems like one of the nicest people ever

On the part that Emirichu reveals her attempts, I was honestly confused. They look great even after the explanation of parts that went wrong. You adapted and succeeded to make something recognizable and fun. More practice will just serve to make these bentos look better. Great job!

It looks "bad" from an artist's point of view. Emily's also admitted to having a perfectionist streak in her. I get what she's saying though, the proportions/portions are off and the alignment of the elements were a little skewed because she was in a hurry. Definitely better than I would have done given the allotted time.

I think it is better to use turmeric for yellow colors. It doesn't have really strong taste, but adds a lot of color and nice smell!

The amount of love and care that goes into these bento boxes is awe-inspiring! Your bentos weren't a fail, Emily???You did do better the second time, but even your FIRST attempts were cute to me.

Oh my god. Thank goodness someone showed the struggle that comes with doing this. I made this with sister when we first got into anime. I was the chief, she was the artist. I only really cared about the delicious part of food, but when we heard about character bento we wanted to try it also. So we chose a character each and tried it out. We did worst then you because we were self taught on decorating... Food was good though. I didn't try a character bento again until after I got married and I told my husband this story and he said that he would love to have a bento by me. So I studied up on what to do and how to avoid mistakes this time. And it turned out way better. I don't really do character bento still. I think food should taste good first and foremost. But now I wanna take another go. Oh, my first attempt was actually sailor moon themed and my sister was very sad that we turn her to dot eyed monster. Mine was Digimon with pixel art look because I thought it would be easier... It was not. And then I did legend of Zelda themed for my husband

I deadass would want to make this for lunch time at school than having to go a local shop like Tesco or Sainsbury’s, or just watch my friends eat whilst I’m literally just eating nothing but oxygen in the cafeteria 💀

I think you defenitly Upped your skills!! I watch a few videos about bento boxes, and I'd recommend watching "Imamu room" her videos are good to learn how to make it because she showing you what she made, while teaching you at the same time!!

Honestly, I don't think your first attempts were that bad. When you attempt something on your own for the first time, some imperfections are bound to seep in. In fact, I think they looked really good for first attempts! You can consider yourself pretty talented =) . Also, I love the tiny bits of animation in this video. I think the goofy looks of the sailor moon bento makes it slightly better especially when its homemade it has a charm to it

As a Japanese person, my mom makes me nori bento for me a lot (the one with rice, seaweed, and soy sauce with the different side dishes), but I would be interested in seeing her try to make some of these, it looks so tasty!

OMGGG this is so cute!!!! I was always under the impression that these decorated bentos are just way too elaborate and that it takes too much unnecessary effort to make it when you could've made something that's maybe tastier and takes less time, but honestly, I'm starting to see the appeal. It's more of an aesthetic/artistic expression in a food format instead of a purely culinary endeavor and I see how fun and rewarding it can be to make these cute bentos
