Stellar Blade is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by Shift Up and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game is scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 5 on April 26, 2024.
Stellar Blade is played from a third-person perspective. Combat focuses on grasping the attack patterns of enemies and countering with precise timing. Eve’s Beta Gauge is filled by parrying and evading in combat. The Beta Gauge is spent to use skills such as piercing super armor and enemy combo interruption. Eve also has a Burst Gauge filled through successive parries and combos, which can be used to activate buffs and powerful attacks. The game utilizes the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller's haptic feedback to deliver feedback on enemy attacks and weapon accuracy. Exploration features wall scaling and swinging on ropes for environmental traversal, with things to be found including extra costumes. The overworld has NPCs who can provide Eve with side quests, with the option of either taking them on or ignoring them.[1] Scattered throughout the world are supply camp checkpoints where the player will restore health and retrieve stored items, though doing so respawns all Naytibas in the surrounding area, similar to the Meditation Circles in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

The people who care the most about feminine beauty in video games get the least amount of female interaction in the real world. Gotta love how we pretend like this character design is an old thing when Nier, Bayonetta, Dead or Alive (as well as many other on going series) are just a few examples of how it never went away. But because a few people in the right circles wanted to clutch their pearls in this particular case we have to suddenly rewrite reality. I agree, why do game characters (male, female or otherwise) need to be realistic in a fantasy setting? People really need to chill out and enjoy each game for what it is as long as it's their cup of tea. I have massive respect for Luke but when he said ''if you're willing to look past this...'' , I mean he's the one having trouble looking past it, the rest of us normal gamers just went like ''huh nice @ss'' for the first 0.5 secs and then literally forgot about it and went on with the gameplay, which is amazing btw. Obviously we get that it's unrealistic which is why we hardly give it a second thought unlike Luke who couldn't see past it (for the wrong reasons). Btw The character is based on a real life model. Obviously they ''enhanced'' a few ''vital'' areas but still who cares and why should we. It's fantasy and people losing it over something that's not meant to represent something real are the ones that seriously need to grow up and stop complaining or crying about it. So immature.

I love looking at Hot women who are well written and competent female badasses. Im not sure if this is the case here, but putting the game in a box, meant in a derogatory way, because the female is Hot is incredibly sexist from you. Amazing to see how, nowadays, in an attempt to be so correct and progressive, people end up being more prejudiced and sexist than ever before. Play the game - judge it on gameplay and writing. If the protagonists are attractive....well, to my eyes, even better. I have enough reality when i look at myself at the mirror - let me fantasize with being a Gorgeous woman fighting monsters in space for a couple of hours. Pretty sure the problem is that the women are designed to be attractive to *men* and have, to some, unnecessary and ill-fitting armor or character designs for the world they are in. Think like... in old school games there's the attractive male hero character wearing full (if maybe semi-form fitting) plate armor. Nothing wrong with that right? Well, if you take that same armor and apply it to the female hero character models it turns into a metal bikini. The issue is less making characters attractive and more in *how* they are being made attractive. Are the same standards being applied to both male and female models? Are they being given the same amount of character outside of their looks (if that's relevant to the game)? Are the character designs made to appeal to a general audience or to a specific demographic? When I see the models for Stellar Blade I see a "male gaze" focus on the design. That's the issue that some people have with it. Not that the characters are "attractive", but that they are attractive in a specific way that is meant to appeal to a male audience and reduces their female character designs to overtly sexualized beauty.

I love how we get told all the time that we are just imagining things, when we see that characters get altered to look way worse than the model or actress they are based upon, but when a game dares to openly use the sexiness of their heroine as part of the publicity, they all start spitting venom and insult the devs and any gamer interested in it. It's like just ask a woman or a gay gamer, what they think about visually attractive guys in games, I don't hear them complaining or cry sexism about that. These people act as if sexy equals sexism, as if sexualization of a fictitious character is the same as that of real people, as if it is an insult to all of humanity if a game has a sexy female protagonist. I've not and will never buy a game because the protagonist is hot, but damn if I will ever apologize for preferring a good-looking female character in a game over a plain or ugly one. It's a bundle of code and graphics, not a real person, how they look doesn't change how I see real women or makes me respect them less. I understand that for a woman, the male gaze can be a problem, but certainly not for a character in a game? She's not gonna feel uncomfortable, or disparaged by it. And let's be honest here, we have so many games with attractive male leads or with more "realistic" female characters, just accept that if you don't like how the characters in Stellar Blade look, that it is not a game aimed at you as a target audience. Isn't that exactly what they keep telling us, when we complain about the portrayal of certain characters in many modern AAA games?

I mean, as a gay gamer, I don't think _God of War_ would be improved at all if Kratos-or, if we go by the apparent age of many eye-candy heroines, Atreus-was wearing a codpiece thin enough to see the outline of the glans, rip-away assless chaps, and a shirt cut so that you can follow the happy trail from root to tip. Just picture it - _really_ picture it. If I try, I can't even see the damn work, because the character designer is blocking the view, with a hand down their pants. It's a story cracking its own believability for an entirely meta reason (sex appeal) in a way that cannot be rationalized from within the fiction. Titillation can be done effectively, other mediums to it all the time - if a Bond film wants to put Eva Green or Ana De Armas in a low-cut dress, the screenwriters set the scene at a luxurious gala. You just put some work into it. Doing it like this is indulgent, patronizing and artificial.

@@ikaemosYou mean patronizing, like making character models artificially look way less attractive than the women they are based upon? Like in Spider-Man 2, Mass Effect Andromeda, Horizon Forbidden West and so many other games in recent years? Isn't it way more patronizing to actually try to create something less appealing to the eye, as a means to educate us horrible straight male gamers? Patronizing for me is connected with looking and talking down to people, and that is not something I see coming from the devs, here, rather from the hit pieces coming from the gaming news sites tbh. But seriously, I do see parts of your point, especially since you made it very easy to imagine. 🙂 I admit I was thinking less of Kratos and more along the lines of Leon Kennedy or Cloud Strife or similar guys, tbh. I mean, I don't hear any complaints about sometimes seemingly half the main cast of Final Fantasy games running around like extras in a BDSM style music video. 🙂 Yes, the outfit is gratuitous, very gratuitous, and you won't hear me denying that the character is pretty sexualized. Tbh. it is a bit too much for me as well, I could see outfits like that as possible variant costumes or something a character wears for a short time, not the whole game. It has a bit of the look of a sexy outfit mod pack for a Bethesda RPG. For me, her outfit is actually a bit too distracting, and I would prefer an option to tone it down a bit, but that doesn't change that I hate this kind of venomous campaign against any dev who dares not fall into line with how games are supposed to look today and I really don't see how it hurts anybody. Eve might be modelled after a real woman, but she is just a bunch of textures on a body model. And if someone's personal sensibilities are triggered by a game like that, those people could always just not play it. A little indulgence isn't a bad thing, and I honestly don't see how it is patronizing. They aren't trying to force their approach on anybody. And this is one game we are talking about, one game out of how many, when most others are perfectly fine and politically correct? It's like, give the teenage boys and socially inept guys one game to indulge in, and you can have all the other games. And when it comes to things artificially being stuck onto and induced into games a sexy outfit would personally be less of a worry for me, I do worry more about ridiculous levels of monetization and blatant political messaging, that is so in your face, that it feels insulting to my intelligence, even if I do agree with most of it ideologically. Let those who want it have that one game and be a bit more lenient against stuff that hurts your sensibilities, is the advice I'd like to give some of these so-called journalists, only if you do that, can you expect similar behaviour from those disagreeing with your POV. If you instantly lash out like rabid dogs every time someone dares to go against what you deem appropriate, you can't really complain about the backlash that generates. I wish this kind of discussion wouldn't be led so venomous and a bit more nuanced from both sides, but just look at the headlines whenever one of these topics pops up. I admit I am myself reacting a bit thin-skinned by now, and I'm not proud to be that guy. Yet it does sometimes feel as if in the last ten years gaming journalists have one main goal and that is to tell devs how games are allowed to be and gamers which games they are allowed to like and enjoy, and that's something I definitely don't like and appreciate. Sorry for that wall of text, but I wanted to make clear that I do take your comment seriously and appreciate that you put it all down in a civilized if slightly sardonic manner (hence you also got a like from me for it), but I also wanted to explain my problems with the whole reaction to Stellar Blade a bit more.

We are celebrating feminine beauty more than ever because we are no longer sticking to a very specifc type of beautiful women and are appreciating women who are more diverse whether that means having more meat on their bones, being older or having stronger jaws and shorter hair it's still great.

A lot of gaming youtubers act that way, they don't want to insult their viewers by appearing supportive to the ridiculous BS coming from activists and "gaming journalists" (quotations because there are like 4-5 real journalists among that bunch and two of them are Paul Tassi and Jason Schreier), while at the same time they don't want to open themselves up to the attack mob and be labelled as alt.right, which for these people sadly means anyone who dares to not agree with them on a single point.

It's super pleasing to my eyes to see cute women in armor with long fancy hairs like that, it's something you rarely see in fantasy games and its the whole point of fantasy games anyway, to create something visually and unrealistically beautiful, and i saw the comments hoping to see the same happy reaction that i had but that wasnt the case. Then also luke added "these kinda visuals mostly appeals teen boys." XD sir, no. as a woman in 30's i love hot women too! i think everybody likes pretty women. lol ignoring everyone hating on the heroine, the game was very decent in my opinion in many aspects such as combat style and the variety of enemies, the world etc, that most games fail to achieve these days with "ugly realistic" visuals. I dont think anybody enjoys wrenched but realistic skins with terrible gameplay.

Not going to "try" and look past the character design. I love the characters and I'm tired of western media trying to make it seem like appreciating the female form is somehow bad and that these aren't real people. The model who Eve is based on and the studio leaders wife are very much human and probably don't like being told they aren't human. Also I always find it funny that it's perfectly fine for a male character to be almost naked and basically eye candy but if it's a woman, all of a sudden it's "reinforcing negative stereotypes". Beautiful people are awesome and I'd rather look at idealized versions of humans for 40 hours than some ugly example of the average unhealthy asshole. And ya the game is amazing and I'm definitely picking up the deluxe edition.

The point is the outfits. It’s like those 2005 action movies where everyone is wearing latex. It looks cool, but is definitely impractical. But I think the lesson here is that it’s a game about fighting massive alien monstrosities and flying androids. Practicality doesn’t need to be that high on the priority list and it’s ok to just have a character that looks cool haha

There was a section of people who were angry about the outfits but there was ALSO a segment of people angry over the model itself, saying it was unrealistic to have a woman look like that, and that's where I was coming from haha. I do agree that practicality does indeed fly out the window when dealing with cephalopods from space. I believe also that the devs lean into the gear's impracticability too; like the most "see-through" piece of gear has like 0 defense and it's flavor text calls you out for wearing it lol.

Nah, all the outfits are hella sexy and awesome. The fact that some women have unusual proportions naturally or (heavens forfend!), get boob jobs, doesn’t make this supermodel’s body ‘realistic’. But don’t worry about those loud people who care. And boob jobs can be life-alteringly wonderful. Whether they modeled Eve’s body after a real woman or not, they would have shaped her the same, because it looks awesome. I think Eve looks freaking fantastic. I could look at her for hours. Which is exactly what gamers will be doing when playing this game. I’m not sure I can stomach those monsters, but this game is definitely not pandering to me, because then the whole game would have been that other lady walking around a beautiful planet picking up resources and maybe hunting animals for food and cooking and dressing up in all those outfits. But if this game has a pretty ending, maybe I’ll buy it anyway and get used to the gore. Either way, I hope this beautiful game is a roaring success. It looks amazing!

I had the exact same options Luke where I really wasn't expecting much from this game, and wasn't excited for it. But when I heard there was a full demo, I sat down and played it this past weekend. I was completely surprised by how good it was. It feels like a really good mix of a character action game like God of War or Devil May Cry, but mixed with more soulslike elements like I-Frame dodges, parries, and limited refillable healing. The bosses were good but I was actually more impressed by the standard enemies which are surprisingly fun to fight. I especially like the monster with a shield for an arm where you can try to get behind him, try to strike when he's vulnerable, beat him entirely with parries into retribution, or go full aggressive and break down his shield with pure offense. This definitely went from a game that wasn't on my radar at all, to one I'm now highly interested in. Definitely helps I'm still a huge simp for any good soulslikes despite it seeming like some people are burnt out on them.

People here don't really seem to understand what people mean by based on a real model. It's like how movies are based on a true story meaning that they used the model in motion capture and used her likeness. She's literally a cyborg based on a real woman, so of course she not going to be exactly the same. And this idea that the developers were trying to appeal to horny men don't really seem to understand that they actually took this concept from the anime Ghost in the Shell. The main character could've chosen any female cyborg body but chose the hot one and kept using it because I guarantee that any male or female would choose a hot male/female cyborg body if you had the choice. And anyone complaining about her skin tight outfit certainly didn't play the Demo because in the boss fight you didn't have to choose a skin tight outfit, though you have to be really dumb thinking that how much her outfit covered makes a different because she's a cyborg. Everyone's argument in here against the being hot just wants to complain because the developers weren't pandering to anyone, it just melted sense if you take into account that she's a cyborg. I guarantee that everyone that is planning to buy it decided to do so because it's a damn good game with an incredible battle system. The main character is just a bonus. And to those that said she'd boring, this isn't the FF16 demo. They aren't trying to draw you in with the story, they used the battle system to do that.

Why unrealistic body? I guess gaming journos have never seen a gym from inside and are rarely outside in general, but this body is absolutely achievable, given you have the genetic fundament for it. Is it polished up? Yes. But its not unrealistic. For that we have sooo much better examples. Especially what incredibly muscular women we saw in games over the past few years is sooo much less realistic, even if they took tons of steroids (but then other parts of their body and especially the face would change dramatically as well).

I am going to be picking this up for the intense combat and great soundtrack it’s got absolutely nothing to do with how good the jiggle physics are what so ever.

Anyone ever notice that no matter what it is media nor anyone else ever shame women for their preferences? Only men are shamed.

If the clothing is from the future and stretches with your body then it would actually be a good thing if that's what it was made for in the future with a material made for that. It would keep all your clothes from getting in your way which would be a huge help in combat. I would know firsthand being a veteran. I can't tell you how many times something got caught on my clothes and although it would look ugly on men, some extra strong extra stretchy fabric as close to your skin as possible would be a huge help and is the same reason why we have to cut our hair the way we do so it doesn't get caught on anything and so no one can pull it. Some people just don't understand but I mean if it's meant to be sexy then that's a different story but functionally in the right context with some sort of material we don't currently have this would actually be beneficial.

we never get to see some really good demos anymore that can showcase a game and help build its hype and trust in the developers to perform. i would have never heard of this game but i’ve seen so much people playing the demo it actually has me interested. good job on their part.

I actually think the juxtaposition of the character design to the game world is kinda genius. makes both stand out more. Them assets!

I was pretty much in the same boat as you Luke. Gave it a whirl because of your video. Its a game i didn't know i wanted. The environments are stunning, the combat has a incredible sense of inertia, and the music......so ethereal. It takes me back to stand alone complexes opening song for the 1st season.

Not that this is what they would look like, but plenty of different combat suits are quite skintight. It is understandable when some people find the design of the character unpleasant. But I would also say that not only 15-year-olds would find it pleasant.
