I had a lot of trouble getting below 1:20 until I spent more time just practicing solving the initial white cross faster, over and over again, without even worrying about the rest. It is by far, the slowest step, for most beginners. Now I know why speed cubers examine the cube for 15 seconds before hand. It's so you can get that white cross solved almost instantly, after that it's pretty much robotic.

I looked at the two pieces then closed my eyes to put them in. 2. Set up a metronome (via yt or Google etc) and try to do one turn per beat. This will bring your look-ahead on another level. Obviously start really slow (e.g. One beat every 2 seconds) and become faster and faster.

Got a 58 once and an average of 1:34 in 7 days using the beginner method. lucky random f2l cases randomly popping into place without deliberate construction also helped and solving the middle layer is fun when all the pieces needed to make the second layer whole, are already there but in the wrong spot is a joy to work at because I can look at the piece coming out and instantly realize which color it corresponded to. Using a Bluetooth cube like the i2,i3 really helped me understand cube notations and made it easier to learn algorithms by glancing at motion lines and reading cube notations

How timely. I watched Mike Boyd's video on solving the cube just before the new year I then realized that this was actually a thing. I found a few cubing channels on KZread and watched a few more videos on it and decided to go out and buy myself a cube. I just got a cheap Rubik's brand one from the toy store. I started messing with it not thinking I would go anywhere with it. I didn't even know if I would ever solve it once I scrambled it. I decided to look up J Perm's beginner tutorial and take it one step at a time. I decided I was going to take it one step at a time. I learned how to make the cross. I only did the cross each time, and then I would scramble it again. Cross, cross, cross. Over and over. Get used to doing it and make sure I can do it without having to look at any tutorial on what I was or wasn't doing properly. Then I moved on to the next step, then the next, and then I decided to jump in and learn the rest of the steps. I bought my Rubik's cube on December 31st 2021 I solved the Rubik's cube for the first time without having to look at the guide on January 3rd 2022. I went online and bought a real speedcube on January 4th 2022. (I actually got J Perm's RS3M. I also used code JPERM at checkout.) It's been shipped and I'm eagerly awaiting my new cube. I'm still practicing on this janky Rubik's brand that constantly gets caught, but I'm getting better. I average around 3:30 right now. Still using the beginners method, but plan to learn CFOP once I get my new cube and get used to it a bit more.
