I Tried Japan's WEIRDEST TINY Sleep Pods

Sleep pods and capsule hotels are everywhere in Japan. The country revolves around sleep (and sometimes lack thereof) with people sleeping on the streets, trains, and even in offices. So today, we are trying out one of the weirdest sleep pods I have seen yet... It's VERTICAL!! This one is amazingly located in a cafe entirely dedicated to sleep! The Nestle Sleep Cafe in Tokyo~

Exactly. Like, what if I start snoring, or sleep talking, or manage to open the door then sleep walking, even though I never do that before. Or nap marks/lines on my sleepy face while I walk out of the pod and people start starring at me.

I think part of it is because Japan does encourage working as much as possible and to do that realistically you need to be able to rest as much as possible when you can. In America the way the working class is treated is beyond bizarre. I guess it’s because of the whole notion that as long as you work hard enough you won’t be poor which just simply isn’t true. For some reason the upper class hates anything that might make it seem like service workers are being “lazy” aka why we are forced to stand all day when working at as a cashier, bank teller, or front desk at hotel even though it makes absolutely no sense and does nothing but needlessly wear out employees. I had so many responsibilities working front desk at a motel and the fact that I wasn’t even able to sit down while checking people in made me so angry. There was absolutely no reason the counter needed to be that high up. My feet would be killing me by the end of my shift. There were so many more things I wanted to do to make the place nice but I was getting so worn out from never being able to sit down that I just couldn’t do it so it’s actually just holding people back from being more productive. It’s so stupid.

So over the past year I've built up a lot of experience trying to nap or at least rest in all kinds of places (as a treatment for chronic fatigue) and I would be all over their nap rooms but the giraffe nap - only if the other options were taken 😅. I usually bring ear plugs and/or earbuds for white noise but it's very thoughtful of the café to provide it! Oh, and my tip for anyone needing some quick rest would be - do take some deep breaths at the start and don't get hung up on actually falling asleep. Rest is still rest!

As a Resident, I do 28 hour shifts 6-7 times a month. And the caffeine nap is actually a thing that works surprisingly well for synergistically increasing your energy. You basically drink a cup of coffee and then immediately take a 20 minute nap before the caffeine hits. Now sleeping vertically...I'm afraid I don't have much experience with that

I do NOT miss that part of my office job working days lol. Public loos aren't the nicest of places to nap! The second one looked like a futuristic escape capsule. I think size doesn't matter (to me, as long as I can get out 😅) but details like sound, temperature and lighting would. I've never been able to nap, not even as a little kid. I'd be the one fidgeting on the blanket, bored, waiting for the other kindergarten kids to wake up so we could get back out to the playground. Never been able to sleep on planes sitting up, no matter how long the flight was. But after I turned 65, I suddenly HAD to take a nap after work for a few hours. Now I have a two hour nap nearly every day - not vertical, in bed with lots of pillows, and a white noise machine to drown out outside daytime noises... and my cat cuddled up next to my shoulder because he loves napping too. Still can't sleep sitting up, but after a lifetime of insomnia, I'm at last getting enough sleep....

This reminded me of how I used to sleep in the library everyday in high school, I used to put a hoodie in my backpack and used it as a pillow. Would take a nap right at one of the cubicle desks.

I have fell asleep standing in the middle of a factory, I definitely could sleep in one of those if I was tired. The verticle position is actually ideal for me because I have really bad sleep apnea.

High school made me well prepared for falling asleep in the most public, random, and uncomfortable of places. The pod sounds like a banger to me.

I used to nap on my way to college while standing up on a train, I could go in and out of sleep every few seconds, and my body would sweat a lot. But even though it's not really a proper sleep, it does help me feel refresh and become more alert through the day. My college is 2 or 3 hours long trip from my home (I forgot exactly because it's been some time ago), it's in another city. Thinking back it was crazy how I can endure 4 or 6 hours of trip every week days for 4 years.

"a nere 20 minute nap can revolutionize the way your work" nah cuz that is actually so so true man. sometimes youre just so beat and tired coffee dont even wake you up, but that 10 - 20 minute nap is the biggest energy boost ever

They're interesting, but I can't fall asleep sitting up very well, so I don't think I would try to use this. I always thought having a hammock in an office would be super helpful for late nights. Maybe one of the large hammock chairs with a tentlike pod over it? I'd love to see the games consoles unboxed in a video!

Reminds me of the many many times I've fallen asleep at my desk. I suspect I'd be a natural in a sleep pod like those. Just without the caffeine, which seems to me to be directly opposite to the idea of slowing down and napping.

I’m one of those people who are unaffected by caffeine too. I can have a large mug of coffee and then fall asleep right away. Glad I’m not the only one! 😄. I think I could try one of those sleeping pods if I was really sleepy and just needed a short nap, but probably just the darker one with the working fan.

And yes, I'd love to see gaming gear vids. I've never seen a working Virtual Boy and I'm curious about the glove!

I'm seriously bad at napping (or sleeping in general)- always tired but huge trouble falling asleep so I doubt any of these options would work for me. Sleeping standing up/sorta weirdly draped across the surface? Very unlikely that I'd be able to sleep in there. *But* totally those things made for an interesting video!

Damn. I googled coffee nap and I'm surprised. I've been doing that for more than 10 years before knowing it was a thing; it is common sense, it takes caffeine around 20 minutes to kick in so a quick 20 minute nap before you feel the awareness inducing effect of caffeine is amazing and makes a world of difference.
