You warm my little lefty heart! Thank you giving yourself this challenge. I imagine I'll learn a lot by watching you learn. And I bet you'll do great because you know how to do the important things -- practice basic strokes, use the right materials, etc. Can't wait to see how you did!

It is good for your brain to learn how to do anything with your non-dominant hand, even if it is just putting away the dishes. Keep it up Becca and you’ll be the Einstein of calligraphy!

I'm a lefty. And it's really confusing for beginners to get how to hold pen and place paper by seeing a right handed person.

I used to struggle as well ... but I have realised that you have to kind of hold your pen whatever way feels best when doing calligraphy ... and eventually you will get it right! I found that it is helpful if you keep practicing - because then you will eventually get a comfortable grip on your pen. And some lefties find it helpful if you tilt your page to the right slightly ... it creates more space for your arm to move more freely, which makes it easier to write. Hope this helps!

I am lefty and took Becca’s course. It took me a while to find my angle. I was surprised that I ended up coming from the left and hooking my hand. That is not how I write normally - I am a lefty underwriter. Bottom line keep trying and you will find your angle.

I think you did amazing. I am a righty that was switched from a lefty in kindergarten. I still do things like a lefty but right handed 😂😂 I think you should tilt your paper the opposite direction ❤

Slowing down... yup! Had to learn that. I was trying to be 'instinctual' but being 'deliberate' helped me get less shaky. The exact opposite of what I thought...literally for decades... to the point I quit. Today im making rapid progress. Thank you for your excellent teaching ❤ PS I'm a lefty who always turns the paper sideways and write top to bottom. It freaks people out watching😄

Being a lefty, I watched this tutorial with great anticipation. Honestly I was surprised at how well you did! When writing I never turned my paper or hand. I could never quite understand why some of us lefties did that. I thought why turn my hand/paper when I'm writing with the opposite hand, shouldn't my writing position be the same as the righty? Anyway, I'm going to try to turn my paper to see if that helps since I got frustrated practicing my letters. Thank you for all the help and encouragement!

I am left handed and I found the best way for me is to turn my paper to the far right and hold my pen with my hand turned slightly to the left. I also turn my body slightly to the right. I cannot do overhand printing or writing with my elbow and hand heading to the right as pictured in the video. This way sitting right and tipping paper way to the right my hand is sliding across the page instead running on top of the printing dragging my hand as I go.

I developed an “essential tremor” in my dominant left hand a couple of years ago, which meant that when I applied pencil to paper my hand shook A LOT. I switched to my right hand, and it luckily turns out I am ambidextrous. So all my lettering and drawing are done with my non-dominant hand. I have heard that left-handers are naturally ambidextrous but I don’t know that is true... BUT when I did do left-handed calligraphy I always held my pen underneath the letters, not above like you are here. I know that is a common left-handed position though... You did a really great job with this!!

I am left-handed. I have been learning calligraphy by watching videos, yours included. The instructors have all been right-handed. So, it has been a struggle.

I’m a lefty as well. Becca’s courses and material are awesome for both lefty and righty & I’m partial to her! but if you want more to see some lefty’s in action do a search for left handed calligraphy & you can find some teaching who are left handed. Becca’s material is my fav!!

Hello! So I began handlettering and brush calligraphy about 5ish months ago. As i get nore into it and see different people I see different styles. Mixing lettering with caligraphy... i don't know if I'm explaining myself. I guess I want to know is there a wrong way to letter or brush calligraphy? Is it just have fun and get creative? Should I stick with just learning brush calligraphy and once I've gotten ok at that go to lettering?!?! Soo many questions 🙈 Btw I really appriciate you taking tine to teach us in your videos 😊💕

I am a lefty, however, I don't hold my pens, pencils like most left handers do. I hold mine more straight up and down. I am able to write some with my right hand. I learned to write right handed when I was younger in case something ever happened to my left. I've been attempting to work at calligraphy for about 6 months, I seem to have better strokes with my right. What is wrong with me? By the way Becca, you did a good job for 10 days

I’m a lefty and I have so much trouble with the transitional strokes! Having to push the pen instead of it gliding in its “normal” direction is hard for me.

I think 🤔 you can do calligraphy with your left hand as well as your right!

~ ‘before-video-thought’~ I’m guessing it would be difficult , simply because your non-dominant hand isn’t used to that type of muscle use. No matter how good or bad your handwriting is, it is a type of muscle exercise that a hand gets used to. That being said, I’m guessing that if you can train your brain not to think of it as ‘handwriting’ (as you’ve mentioned before), but just as a muscle ‘exercise’, you’d probably learn quickly.😊 *goes to finish watching*

Welcome to the "Lefty World". We have so many things to figure out as we "push our pen away" from us. Ink smudging is REAL. Pen grip/pen/arm position is also a factor (there are 4 different grips/arm positions we lefties use). Paper position is the probably the hardest thing to get the right pressure & letter slant. From my own experience, in your classes since October 2018, I have to practice more to get "positions" correct. I write top to bottom with a 90 degree paper slant because of my pen grip (as a right grip). Overall, I am getting better everyday due to practice but I don't overdo it due to making mistakes the longer time wise I do the letters & words.
