The writing, voice acting and atmosphere is absolutely fantastic in this game people. Can't say enough good things about it. Great premise and something different from the flashy flashy bang bang AAA games are becoming. Must play for RPG fans.

Did that Nightmare intro and fight not immediately remind everyone of a Witcher Contract?? I was happy to wake up and see you posted a video on Banishers. DontNod and Frogwares are my favorite AA developers (which was my favorite genre back in the Xbox/PS2/early-360/PC days) and Focus Entertainment has been investing in Devs with artistic vision over money grubbing, and I'm happy they're keeping AA alive. A Plague Tale, the Sherlock series, Vampyr, Sinking City, Call of Cthulhu, so many good games

Yeah, this game is kind of like The Witcher meets an easy rogue-lite. But maybe that was just "Act 1" and it gets harder later. No idea.

Well, difficulty aside, I just loved how that introduction and fight with The Nightmare felt very much like a Witcher 3 Contract Quest, and that's definitely a great impression

I started playing this Monday night, and, man, I absolutely love it! I really don't care that the combat isn't the most polished thing around. For Dont Nod, it's really good! And the storytelling and atmosphere are just absolutely peak.

This game gets points in my book for having an awesome setting that we rarely see in games, especially AA/AAA games. I don't think we have had a revolutionary era America game (at least a big budget one) since AC3. Usually fantasy games like this would default to some version of old europe but to go with the Americas is really refreshing. Plus New Eden is basically set in my home town, there are homes from the 1700s still standing that look like the homes in the games where I am from. I am really excited for this game in case you couldn't tell!

I can definitely see some parallels to the AC games set in the revolutionary times. I think the male protagonist seems to be heavily inspired by Shay Cormac, especially if you look at his weaponry.

You haven't had proper grog if this is the case. It was drunk at the time because you couldn't drink the water. It's a spiced rum drink. If you got served a plain rum and water that's just a watered down rum drink. Grog was simmered all day with nutmeg cinnamon and other spices then rum was added to serve. It gave way to spiced rum.

@@Fervent._ hey to each there own. You think the combat is better in Banishers or you think the games better because Vampyr froze on you? If it’s just the game froze I’d recommend going back and playing it if you’re interested. I think it’s a great game.

@@hughjass69933 I don’t remember it that way to be honest. I love Vampyr and even with it clunky, I remember actually enjoying combat(I haven’t enjoyed Banishers). I think I’ll boot up Vampyr and see if I’m blinded by nostalgia.

Dare i say, Luke was “hyped” to play this

I didn't think much of it at first, but it looks rather interesting and well made. For me it needs to have a more complex gameplay system, which contains of more than only combat. But it that comes with the "two-realm"-gameplay component, I might buy it one day.

Bought this game not expecting much. It's fantastic. The story is one of the best I have ever experienced in a video game. Not perfect but a solid 8 out of 10. Possibly a 9. Must play.

So glad your loving banishers Luke! I also was excited for this game. I just recently beat vampyr and don't nod had my attention. Banishers is awesome and very unique just like vampyr. Also not a broken buggy game on ps5 isn't that awesome lol I have 10 hours in banishers and I can't wait to play again! I think people are really digging banishers.

I remember this game because my dad pre ordered it like two months before it came out only to realize after he bought it

Just bought the game. Having a blast with it so far.

Love the mindset of maxxing all graphics sliders to max which means TAA is likely on and on top of that general upscaling blurring making games genuinely look worse. Still a good-looking game in the video but as usual will look different in person.

This game is awesome. Once I got to the scourge I realized I was in love. Combat could be better, but everything else is top notch.

So far this game is pretty great 👍 The story and characters are well done, the combat is fun though a bit choppy, and the setting is very interesting. The only real issue I have is every enemy encounter locks you in the arena until it is finished meaning you have to kill every enemy you see. This becomes an issue when the only reliable way to replenish your heals is at a campfire which respawns all of the enemies. In this sense it is sort of a "Souls-Like" except you can not run past enemies to preserve your resources. *Edit* Also the music tends to cut out at seemingly random times which is pretty awkward.

This game is like a threesome between God of War, The Witcher 3 and Outlander TV show. It s a must buy, i m enjoying the hell out of it !!!

DONTNOD really punches above their weight, and I love it. I can’t say I’ve played and love everything they do, but they really do put out some decent work for their budgets.

This game went entirely under the radar for me, and holy hell!! I'm excited to play it.

Clean drinking water was hard to come by. Grog might have been a safer way to hydrate.

I'm convinced he does not do reviews objectively 💯

About 2/3 through the game, including main story and a decent chunk of side content. It's another home run for Dontnod. Excellent narrative, setting, characters, atmosphere, voice acting and soundtrack. The combat certainly isn't stellar but it is more than serviceable. Definitely one that will stick in the memory for a long time.

Just felt like the relationship between red and antea was a bit stiff. I don't know!

I feel like it makes sense given the time they live in, and their occupation and life experiences. Like I’ve seen couples like that where it’s more about the commitment and mutual respect than constant PDA and words of affection. Like I believe their relationship grew out of mutual respect and understanding than whirlwind romance like in the movies. Also she’s dead and can’t really feel things or interact with Red properly.

The game that introduced me to DontNod was Remember Me, you should check out Luke, pretty amazing graphic and story with great gameplay loop imo. Wish theyd remake or remastered Remember Me

I really enjoyed this game. My one and only complaint is the combat at times feels a bit clunky and weird but it doesn’t bother me to the point where I don’t enjoy it cuz I do. The story’s amazing and the decisions you have to make are very tough and emotional. Great game with a lot of love and craft put into it

Well the lipsyncing issue is because they wanted to make it equally off for all languages

This looks like a very 'Frogware' style of mystery game and I am all about it. Sorry I wont finish the video but I bought it while watching.

y so far am having fun on PC with it tho i just had my 1st crash and i had 1 glitch and i have some performance issues like am using DLCSS Performance and am still unable to hit stable fps and am even going below 30 sometimes with my RTX 3060 12GB -i5 12400F

I had sworn off preorders but had a good feeling about this one. I'm glad I kept it, have been playing since yesterday and absolutely love it. Great review. I love the Life is Strange games but haven't checked out Vampyr. May have to do that after I finish this one.

@@MalitiaHDOfficialyeah that was my point. I had a bunch of pre-orders a few months ago but cancelled them all. Was tired of seeing titles released broken or just lousy games. I saw a preview of this a month ago and thought it looked so good that I went against my rule. That's what I meant.

Aside from a few small things with combat and how antea can treat red sometimes I really enjoyed this game. Oh and some general buggy things but nothing crazy especially considering this isn’t really a triple A game. Although the term “triple A” doesn’t really mean much anymore

The game looks nice, but I feel like we watched a lot of cutscenes, I wish we saw more combat to see how it progresses and if there’s any variety

I put Vampyr in my Personal Hall of Fame. 90 minutes into this game I know it’s going to deliver the same weighty story and satisfying boss fights. There’s some low budget Jank but if gameplay and sound and story and atmosphere matter to you. You’ll enjoy this.

this game definitely was surprisingly good. I am glad that they did this kind of game than your walking simulator with narrative choice elements. Stories in games are good but i also want to have some fighting elements as well. Weird going from Life is Strange to this. This shows the capabilities of this studio as long as they don't fall victim to the corporate greed schemes By the way, i think the lip syncing deal is done by an A.I program which is why the lip sync doesn't always look right. I've heard many devs explain this algorithm in their development process

Is this set in the proto-United States? Like an "American Witcher with GTA6 characters." Jokes aside, I need to know how the melee combat is done in this. Is it a tae-bo-exercise system (Metal Gear Solid), mash-one-button-and-end-with-the-other and unlock other basic moves (Yakuza Kiwami), flowed animation loops (Dark Souls 1), technically one button with input variety (Devil May Cry), or back-n-forth strings and branches (God of War/Bayonetta). I prefer the GOW/Bayonetta or Dark Souls style, especially having unique moves from different positions (standing, running, blocking, crouching, jumping, etc.; surprising how some games don't even have this as melee action games).

The game looks really good. I just wish they had worked a little bit more on facial animations, sometimes they look alright but sometimes they can look roooough, man. Regardless, I'll pick it up when I can...
