'Walk Away From Love' was Ruffin's biggest solo hit since his 1968 huge hit 'My Whole World Ended' which was released after his firing from The Temptations. This 1975 hit was right in the middle of the Disco era and was produced by Van McCoy who had a huge hit himself with 'The Hustle'.

Sadly enough David Ruffin was one of many artists who found out that life outside of Motown wasn't all that easy. Also he was very difficult to be around, he was a brilliant performer and singer but he didn't have Berry Gordy in his corner like Diana Ross or even Smokey Robinson did. Van McCoy also worked with Gladys Knight & The Pips in their pre motown days and The Shirelles. The show you are watching him on is American Bandstand who made his first performance as a member of The Temptations. They, like The Four Tops, and Smokey Robinson appeared on Bandstand from the 1960's to the 1980's. Sadly he had a bad drug problem adn when he died of a overdose his fiances were in such dire straits he didn't have proper burial funeral. Michael Jackson paid for the funeral and Eddie Kendricks got arrested for being a deadbeat dad. When they were inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame, only Otis Williams collected his trophy. It was his only hit, but he did return in 1982 for Standing On The Top.

"My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me)", "I Lost Everything I've Ever Loved", "I'm So Glad I Fell For You", "Common Man" "No Matter Where", "Who I Am" etc.

Motown wasn't just one label, The Motown Record Corporation consisted of more than a dozen imprints, each with its own roster of artist and distinctive style. David Ruffin, Diana Ross, Mary Wells, The Supremes and the Four Tops were on the Motown imprint, Martha & The Vandellas, The Temptations, Kim Weston and The Contours recorded on the Gordy label. Tamla, the first of the corporations labels was home to The Miracles, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Barrett Strong, The Marvellettes, Brenda Holloway, The Isley Brothers just to name a few. The Motown sound, was as varied as its roster of recording artist.

This was his last top 10 hit on the Billboard US Pop chart in late 1975 early 1976. Van McCoy was responsible for reviving David's career. David also had an R&B hit in the summer of 1976 with "Everything's Coming up Love". It is one of my favorite songs of his. There is a video on KZread from an appearance on Soul Train with David singing this song. It would be great if you would play that on your channel. I mean, I get it, I think I heard the sploosh sploosh when he hit "breaks my heart". But c'mon, he's not NICE lol! But damn, his voice is perfect for a sad love song. Also, has there ever been an era with wider shirt collars?

He's DEFINITELY on my VERY SHORT AND DISTINGUISHED "THAT DAMN DUDE" CLUB OF ENTERTAINERS....... SPECIFICALLY VOCALLY. AND NOT JUST SINGING OR VOCALIZATION...BUT HIS FREAKING MUSICALLY VOCAL "PRESENCE IN THE ANALS AMONGST THE GREATEST" AND JUST BEING HARD AS HELL TO EXPLAIN "DIFFERENT".😳🤔🔥 NO. I RESPECTFULLY DON'T HAVE "THE EXACT WORDS OF DEFINITION TO DEFINE......"DAVID FREAKIN RUFFIN " BUT IF IT HELPS SOME OF YOU WHO MAY RESPOND "TO MY TEXT MESSAGE BABBLINGS"....... HE'S ON THE TOP OF MY "OLD SKOOL CROONERS" LIST WITH SAM COOKE, JERRY BUTLER, PERCY SLEDGE AND JACKIE WILSON......... BECAUSE THERE'S NOT MANY. YES.......HE IS VOCALLY TALENTED BUT "HIS RANGE"😳🤣 IS FREAKING RIDICULOUS. NOW. I RESPECTFULLY HAVE TO DEVELOP "A LIST OF ALL TIME GREATEST VOCALIST"....... NOT JUST POPULAR. NOT JUST SUCCESSFUL. BUT "DISTINGUISHED SANGIN PROWESS", ESPECIALLY BACK IN THE DAY BEFORE SAY..........LUTHER VANDROSS.... RESPECTFULLY. ON MY "LIST" YOU CANNOT HAVE DAVID "FREAKIN" RUFFIN NEAR "MY TOP" WITHOUT SAM COOKE, DONNIE HATHAWAY AND LUTHER VANDROSS. AND THAT'S MEANING "NO SUPERIORITY COMPLEXATION OR DISRESPECT TO JACKIE WILSON AND SAY JEFFREY OSBORNE. MAYBE BECAUSE "IT'S HOW THEY SANG WHAT" IF THAT MAKES ANY SENSE. BECAUSE SOME VOCAL TALENT AND PERFORMANCES SIMPLY CAN NEVER BE "GENUINELY MATCHED". AND I AM RESPECTFULLY SHARING THIS AS "A DEEPLY COMPASSIONATE FAN OF VOCAL TALENT. VOICE INFLECTIONS AND OCTAVES MAKE FOR A GREAT "DRAMATIC" STORYTELLING FASHION AND BOOK READER. I'M SPEAKING AS A FACILITATOR OF "VARIOUS LIVE SKILLS LESSONS" FROM HEADSTART TO HIGHSCHOOL AND TRAINING UP AND COMING STAFF IN ADDITION TO OUTREACH ON THE STREETS, PRISONS AND VARIOUS SHELTERS PRIMARILY FOR MEN AND FAMILIES. I RESPECTFULLY BUT UNFORTUNATELY DON'T HAVE THE SAME "CONSISTENT" ACCESS TO FEMALE PRISONERS BUT I DO HAVE ACCESS TO THEIR STAFF MEMBERS AS A TRAINER AS WELL. YOU PROBABLY ASKING, "WHY THE HELL IS THIS FOOL LITERALLY BABBLING ABOUT ALL OF THIS HOO HA ON THE SITE OF A MUSIC VIDEO REACTION? THE ANSWER....IN PART IS.....DAVID FREAKIN RUFFIN WOULD HAVE "POTENTIALLY" BEEN A CLIENT OF MINE. MAYBE EVEN A "ONE ON ONE".😮 I HAVE "COUNSELED" PERSAY...... TEACHERS ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF POLITICIANS POLICE OFFICERS YOUTH COUNSELORS BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. I'M SHARING THIS BECAUSE "I AM RESPECTFULLY BURDENED" WITH THE GAPS IN MY LIFE FROM MUSICAL DEPOSITS THAT I WAS BLESSED TO HEAR AT VARIOUS "INTEGRALLY" SENSITIVE VOCALIZATION FROM "PROMINENT, ACCOMPLISHED VOCALIST" THAT FUELED "MY EXPOSITORY PASSIONS" EVEN AS A YOUNG, VIOLENTLY STUTTERING, SKINNY, ARTISTICALLY BLESSED AFRICAN AMERICAN BOY IN NORTH PHILADELPHIA. I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING "THAT I HONESTLY DON'T KNOW WHAT NOR AM I ABLE TO EXPLAIN".........."THAT NEED"! MUSICIANS LITERALLY TAUGHT ME HOW TO STOP STUTTERING. BUT......... IT'S SUCH A "ENGRAINED AND COMPLEX" STORYLINE. SINGING IN MY BASEMENT AND BEDROOM AS A SHY AND STUTTERING SKINNY ARTISTICALLY BLESSED AFRICAN AMERICAN BOY........."MADE ME".......... THANKS TO MY GREATS, PRIMARILY IN OLD SCHOOL R&B AND JAZZ AND GOSPEL. I'LL BE 60 SOON. AND I HOPE THAT THIS HELPS, ENCOURAGES OR INCENTIVIZES SOMEONE WHO IS "EARNESTLY STRUGGLING" WITH JUST BEING "PRESENT, PURPOSEFUL AND IN THE MOMENT". BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. BUT THAT WAS A TIME THAT I HONESTLY COULDN'T READ THE "BOOKS THAT I WAS WRITING" BECAUSE I FELT TRAPPED. LIKE. "THE STATUE OF A FOOL". FORTUNATELY BUT UNFORTUNATELY. THEIR LIVES "FRUITFULLY ASSISTED" ME WITH MINE. I'M SPEAKING TO SOMEBODY TODAY BECAUSE OF "OUR PREDECESSORS" WHO GAVE ME "SOMETHING FROM THE NOTHING" THAT THEY MAY HAVE BEEN "DECEIVED" TO SETTLE FOR. SO FORTUNATELY, UNFORTUNATELY....... THEIR TRAGEDY WAS VICTORY FOR ME MANY YEARS LATER. SAM COOKE, DONNIE HATHAWAY, DAVID FREAKIN RUFFIN AND JACKIE MFin WILSON. I'M SINGING THEIR PRAISES AT 60. NOT JUST FOR THEIR CELEBRATED TALENT, CAREERS AND CULTURAL RELEVANCY AND IMPACT. BUT. AND ALSO BECAUSE OF THEIR "👎 THUMBPRINT" IN AND ON MY LIFE BEGINNING AT AGE 9. I RESPECTFULLY CAN'T MAKE THIS UP. THERE WAS "SOMETHING" ABOUT THOSE MEN SINGING THOSE SONGS IN THOSE TIMES............ I'M BLESSED TO LOOK BACK AND RECALL. THE WHAT, WHO, WHEN, WHERE AND HOWS.......... I'M RANTING😅😂😳🤣🤗🤤 BUT! I RESPECTFULLY CALL IT "GRATITUDE".
