David Maldonado I was just thinking that at the end. I have had that happen to me. Me and my friend were not playing loud and some employee turned on a synth loop and walked out of the room. Another employee saw me jamming with a stranger at a gc in Houston and he came over and turned me down from like 3 to a 1. MozartJunior22 my old band used to have a rehearsal space in a storage facility where it was nothing but rehearsal spaces in one building in the yard. Well one day we're playing and this REALLY annoying band is playing a song and they turned all their shit to 11. And they sucked. And they were about 7 spaces down from us, so there's no reason it should have been louder than our punk band was. I mean we played pretty loud, and I'm generally cool with that because I get if you play punk or metal you probably NEED it to be kinda loud because loudness helps sustain and if you're in a punk band and the drummer is abusing the shot out of the drums it's kinda hard to play softly on the bass, etc. so I've become cool with other bands practicing loud within reason. This shit though...this shit was UNreasonably loud. So what I did was I listened to them when my guitarist and drummer were talking about something and I played along with them and as soon as I figured out the bass part which took all of fifteen seconds because it was very simple I cranked my rig to maximum volume and then I played their part back at them but added all sorts of embellishments, and harmonics and Rhythmic changes. Mid song they MUST have heard me because they shut their practice down. When everything shut off we popped out door open to see if they were actually leaving and they were and we thought it was so funny. If they hadn't been assholes I would have been cool. But you do something stupid and I'll be stupid too.

Had that guy been playing at a moderate level, I would call this video petty, but that was way too loud for no reason and I see guitarists do it all the time. Despite the asshole torturing that guitar, I have to give you props on the great jams, man. Keep dropping those sick bass riffs.

Not all (I play guitar, bass & sing). I tried out on vocals for a (thrash-metal) band & the asshole guitarist had his amp SOOOOOO LOUD that I could not hear myself. I had to scream at the top of my lungs just to be able to tell if I was in key. After the tryout, I was told they wouldn't need my services. I tried to explain that I couldn't even hear myself, because the guitar was too loud (as soon as I stopped singing/screaming the microphone would just screech feedback from that assholes guitar). Oh well, f... them. I know I can sing serviceable well. I sang for a band in Japan (first time as a lead vocalist) & did fairly well. Everyone who heard me, liked my style. So, screw those jack-holes & their diva guitarist (he was the guy who controlled the band & "dominated" the other guys). I was trying out, because he fired three of their previous vocalists. I think it was because he wanted to do vocals & be the lead guitarist. Honestly, HIS voice sucked & his lyrics were HORRIBLE. (I changed the lyrics on one of their songs, for the audition, because his lyrics made NO SENSE, grammatically).

Been there - my experience was to try out for bass for a band after they asked me to learn 5 or 6 songs at a week's notice. After not playing a single fkn song they had asked me to learn and spent the first hour being forced to listen to how great the guitarist thought he was, I just packed my shit up and left without a word.

First off: Bully, your channel is awesome. 29.8k subs is great, but you're going to go way above and beyond that. The level of your editing and content is top notch. The guy playing guitar was an intermediate player, not horrible, but not good enough to be drowning out everyone in the place (even if you're Steve Vai, don't crank it in the store. People are there to try out instruments to buy, not listen to you wank. I can assure you we've all heard better). It's always the guitar players that aren't horrible, but aren't yet talented enough to be humble that are the rudest. He's in that phase of false confidence. As he grows as a musician he will eventually look back on these days and cringe, like we all do. If he was a 50+ year old man wearing New Balance shoes, forget it. He's going to be in the stores doing that until the day he dies. To the commenters saying bass is easy: I've played guitar since I was 7, and switched to bass within the last couple years due to a neurological condition that just happened to be bad enough to impact my guitar playing, but has no effect at all when I play bass. I refused to give music up, so I switched. Switching to bass was eye opening. My only rule for myself was to learn to play bass like a bass player, not like a guitar player that just picked one up. Try getting past the skill level of following the root and occasionally throwing in a 5th or an octave. Bass is easier than guitar as a beginner, but I have found it difficult to master. The similarities between guitar and bass end when you get into more advanced concepts. It takes a whole different mindset. No one notices a slight mistake on guitar, but people can feel your mistake on bass. Also, the bass community is 10x more friendly and welcoming than the guitar community. I'm not an advanced level bass player like I was on guitar, but I will be soon enough. I go after it with the same dedication, discipline, and consistency that I went after guitar. Regardless of what instrument you play; be humble, don't put less skilled players down to make yourself feel better (you were there once), learn your instrument and it's role in the band, and learn to communicate and jam with other musicians without stepping all over them. Be the person that everyone wants to jam with, not the one that is so full of themselves they think everyone is in awe, when they are actually rolling their eyes.

Bully Tha Kidd fuck what a dick, I keep my amp at a reasonable amount (I'm a back up guitarist and a lead singer of Inbrains), I was at Guitar Center and the dick had the amp up almost all the way and he didn't know how to play it not only that he picked up a Squire and says "I want this one it's cool" and I'm like dude there's a Jaguar right over there

I never liked loud noises in general. I hate it when people crank the volume on anything. People always wonder why I wear headphones that aren't plugged into anything. It's cause those fuckers are causing me pain with either their shit music or overly loud videos or whatever. Same thing with guitar.

Guitar sounds gooder louder and fuzzier. To an extent, at least. But bad players use that as a crutch to sound better than they are. It's related to how you're meant to practice clean, so you don't rely on the distortion to cover your mistakes.
