I Tested 10 Leather Conditioners for Boots. These are the BEST.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Looking for best leather conditioner for boots? I tested 10 of the most popular brands and compare them against one another so you can find the perfect leather balm for what you need.
Get my top pick → amzn.to/3B4Fc3i
Get my top leather restorer → amzn.to/3xAfBgH
Get my top weather proofing → amzn.to/3mvLuAH
In this video, I have 10 natural non-dyed vegetable tanned leather coasters, and I take 10 of the most popular leather conditioners for boots and apply them to each coaster.
I'm testing for leather darkening, conditioning power, and weatherproofing. I also discuss the shine each leather conditioner brings, but it's hard to tell on camera how much shine shows up.
At the end, I discuss my top three leather conditioners: the best overall, the best for restoring old leather, and the best for weatherproofing.
I tested the following brands:
- Venetian Leather Balm
- Mink Oil
- Red Wing Boot Oil
- Obenaufs LP
- Cobbler's Choice
- Bick 4
- Lexol
- Leather Honey
- Huberd's Shoe Grease
Toward the end of the video, I mention that you may want to clean your boots before applying leather conditioner. For cleaning, I like saddle soap.
Watch my video on how to use saddle soap → • How to Use SADDLE SOAP...

there's another leather conditioner that's specifically designed for distressed leather and for leather you wanna leave looking distressed, it's bickmore's distressed leather conditioner and there's another one made by fiebings in the same name, fiebing's distressed leather conditioner. you should look into it

Obenauf’s and Huberd’s shoe grease were mainly designed for protection/utilitarian use. They weren’t originally designed for fashion shoes or casual boots bc they darken and soften a lot, but used VERY sparingly they can provide protection and a satin finish and they are all natural so they wear off and don’t plug the pores of the leather. Bick and Venetian are good, bc they don’t darken, but they have silicones that artificially moisturized and don’t darken, but they are synthetic and end up clogging the pores so nothing else can penetrate them so the leather becomes dry eventually. I use both Obenauf’s and a brand called Pure Polish (not affiliated) for this reason.

Thank you for your video. I purchased a new pair of Origin boots and went with the leather honey to condition them. I am finding that the boots are drying out quickly and not repelling water within a few days. Might there be a better choice than leather honey? Or something I should use on top of it?

Far and away a fair comparison, I have used all of these and say each shoe conditioning agent to it's purpose. This would have saved me a lot of pain and effort. I do have some things I would like to add. Saphir Renovateur is really only supposed to be for polished leathers. Not natural vegetable tan leather. It is a cleaner with some light conditioning, but isn't really intended to be used without Pommadier Cream Polish or Pate Deluxe. Saphir does amazing when done with that intention. Instead of Venetian Leather Balm, Venetian shoe cream is more like Reneuvateur but it doesn't condition as well for me and darkens compared to the balm. It does have cleaning agents. For something like the veg tan leather you would have been far and away money ahead to have used Saphir Medaille D'or Oiled Leather Cream as a fair comparison(closer to venetian balm) ,you can use Saphir Super Invulner to way up the water and stain resistance too but I think you were looking for one and done here. Some people use Nappa Balm but I find it doesn't penetrate enough but does cause zero color change. If you ever want to test the Saphir Medaille D'or 1925 Oiled Leather Cream in neutral, I'd happily pay for a bottle and ship it to you for the channels sake. You've done a service helping me finally size my 877's. I kept trying to go a half size too small I am ashamed to admit! 😅 So thank you for all the content and I hope to see more coming. 👍👍

I do know that Lexol comes with two bottles and is a 2-step process. Could that maybe have been the reason it didn’t perform so well? I ask because that’s what I’ve been using. Also, I found that with the lexol, after repeating the conditioning process a few more times, it turned my leather bike saddle from brown to black. I guess sometimes less is more. Im interested in finding something for a leather Brooks bike saddle that doesn’t change the color.

Why is water repellency part of your criteria? That isn't the job of a leather conditioner. Shouldn't that slot/step be reserved for creams, waxes and boot greases/oil? Just let the conditioner do its job it was designed to do. You could make a separate category for a do-all 1 step product I guess 🤷.
