So this is odd but I recently got out of HDSP after doing a 12-36 month sentence. This occurred in December 2021 and I was working in the kitchen when it happened. The CO’s ran into the kitchen and started to yell to get into the changing hall and stop everything we were doing. The radios were going crazy and they wouldn’t tell us what was going on but we proceeded to change and go into lockdown for 3 days. The word of the riot got over quickly and I could actually see the cop cars and ambulance’s down the hill when it was happening. The riot was a sit down gone wrong that and many of the rioters were transferred to HDSP. Btw anyone commenting about the AC: yes, the ac goes out- usually in the summer. And in the winter the heat goes out so we take cold showers LOL

Investigating officer conduct? Not what started the riot? Sounds like the state and department of corrections is looking to blame staff for mismanagement of prisons! Maybe hold the wardens and director accountable!!

I don't it it happened in December and im sure the AC has to work pretty well way out in the desert....Plus if the HVAC need maintenance they'd run to it cuz the COs don't wanna break sweats...Here in Texas prison (TDCJ )they ain't never had AC in the pods.....I'm sure its way more serious then that....not delivering necessaties, food, mail, Commissary or just cuZ

The inmates definitely don’t know what to do and even if they do they won’t stop it because they know it’s a east lawsuit for them if they don’t. The CO is called a corrections officer for a reason, because he’s responsible for keeping his section of the jail safe

If the public knew 10% of what prison was really like,I doubt they would send people there, but last documentary I watched said 60 % of people in prison were non violent drug offenders or some kinda drug offense, I forgot. Why had the prison not already sent some of these people to higher security prisons or split them up and transferred them away from each other? That guy in the photo they showed of the leader looks a lot like a guy they showed being brought into court after a couple of them murdered that kid while in the prison a couple years ago. Prison officials were well aware these gang members belonged in a maximum security prison.

Let's pretend for a moment that you are the Warden. Your state has a limited number of appropriate security level facilities for guys like you reference. The guy has been in for life and has separatees at the other prisons from prior incidents. What do you do? There are no other facilities to move him to? You can't lock him down long term because the public will scream that it's torture and detrimental to one's mental health. What's your move Warden?

Talk about the media and this union member making a mountain out of a mole hill. Stuff like this happens all the time in U.S. Penitentiaries across the country. It's reported as a "disturbance" because it happens more often than the general public thinks. Rather than accuse prison folks of doing something wrong, aim your anger at convicts who continue to act like scum and place no value on their life or of others. I can't tell you how many times this happened at Leavenworth during my career.
