gossip spreads amongst birds!
When i was a child about 8yrs, i spent summers with my grandparents at the cottage, a retired birdwatcher installed several birdboxes nearby & i followed him around every wk as he checked the boxes for nests, # of Eggs & # of chicks . As yrs went by he needed help to check his boxes & i gladly stepped up! His last summer before he died he was no longer able to check his beloved birds, so i carried the ladder & his diary & reported my findings to him every wk. Thank you Mr. Pritchard, you turned me into a birdwatcher.

In my experience, coots are great parents. Fierce defenders of territory too. This summer, a pair of coots raised 3 nests without losing their chicks. 10 in total. I've watched out for them, all summer, a few meters from my garden. These newborn chicks are adorable with their funny red heads. The parents worked hard all summer, to feed them. Without competition.

This video is just as beautiful as the rest. It’s extremely great of you to do these things.
I maybe know how the eggs disappeared, I have also studied on coots and sometimes when they roll their eggs they accidentally kick them out in the water, because the coot is a pretty unhandy bird. But there might be another reason. In the Netherlands and where I live there are people who like to steal coot and duck eggs and destroy them. But it’s also possible that seagulls and herons ate them when the coot left the nest.

A long time ago I saw one of your videos. We had adopted some chickens back then and one of them hatched eggs, one of the eggs was late and inspired by your video I tried hatching the egg myself. I managed to make it work with a toaster/convection oven and my chick grew well (thought I might even see her chicks soon, it had been more than a year since she was born) enjoyed every moment of it. Unfortunately for me she was killed by some dogs a month ago, but the experience remains. Thanks for showing that it can be done, and great work helping animals. Every time my chickens and their chicks need help I now confidently help them, instead of feeling insecure about if I can, and if the natural course of things" knows best".

There's lots of those birds in my hometown in Poland, I love them (they are my favs to watch as well as great crested grebes). They keep spending time together as families even when their chicks are almost adult (most water birds I know are caring parents actually). Observing them chilling and eating water plants is so soothing. They are also extremely comical when they dive for food you give them (we have dispencers with good quality bird food all over town) and just pop back up due to high buoyancy. Also nice to hear so familiar bird sounds in your vid :D I am very used to their callings.

Such a beautiful story, thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing this!
These birds are kind of funny, they live in shallow water, and with such long legs they're basically walking with a bit of support from floating.

In my area they dont live in shallow water at all and those funny flaps they have on their toes actually let them swim surprisingly fast.
Nature is truely amazing! And what a lovely family that you helped to complete! It's also so interesting how that fireball babies become that sleek, beautiful black/white bird when it becomes an adult. This is such a wonderful video in so many ways. Thank you!
You always have such nice stories. Thank you.
Look at their colors when they hatch! I did not expect that! So beautiful! Thanks for sharing and glad all went well! 💜
