Broody Chicken saving Duck eggs

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Ducks sometimes choose an impossible place for their nest and keep on trying it there. In this case, some curious sheep kept on crashing the unlucky eggs. It was time to intervene, but we needed some help…

When I was a girl on our small family farm, we had a club-footed chicken who was always sitting on eggs, but hatching none. Despite her maternal yearnings, she seemed to be sterile. One spring, one of the ducks made her nest under a rhododendron. Shortly before the ducklings were due to hatch, a coyote scared her off the nest and she abandoned it. So Dad collected the eggs and traded the club-footed hen for the artificial eggs she had been given to keep her happy. Two days later, the hen became a beaming mom! That is, until she marched her little troupe along side the drainage ditch - at which point, to Mother Hen's dismay - they all dove in! That poor hen was the sight to see, frantically flapping her wings and clucking loudly, as she stamped her club feet up and down the bank, scolding her naughty children! She wasn't happy about it, but she soon enough accepted the strange habits of her brood. And that is how a hungry coyote made a want-to-be mom (mostly) very happy!

I've seen ppl use Hens to hatch duck eggs and then they immediately take the ducklings away because they said "' a chicken can't raise a duck it's for their safty" I left a comment and asked if they thought the Hen was gonna eat them or somethin' cuz he said "for the ducklings safety" it just doesn't make sense to me, because your's always seem to do just fine!!! I saved a baby duckling from 3 ravens 3 weeks ago, and as there was no other ducks in the area, I took it in. Unfortunately it got its head stuck under a feed tray, and died overnight. I'm just glad it didn't die to the crows. I wish I could've been there to save it from the feed tray though.

The ducklings are really adorable. I saved three wild rabbits when they were newborns. I had them three months before I took them in for a well check at the veterinarian the doctor says don't expect them too long I had them for 4 years the vet could not believe it.

All of my ducks have been very prolific layers this year, so I filled up the incubator with eggs. So far I've got 36 viable eggs in there (out of 41) that are due to hatch next week. I can't wait to meet them!

About 50% hatch (I need a better incubator) and I ended up with a fun assortment of colors - turns out my jumbo Pekin drake was a lot more prolific than I thought he was, 3/4's of the hatched ducklings were larger than regular ducks and pied-colored (white and varying shades of brown.) They grew up and of the three I still have left, are living their best lives with all the space to wander around in that they could wish, and we just installed a new and much bigger pond for them. 🦆

@@MxhiraAnimations The losing of eggs, it happens. My incubator is a cheap, low quality one that doesn't hold temperature and humidity very steady. I'm planning on replacing it for next year's hatch.

I can't thank you enough for saving my little best friend's life. I have got a pigeon that I've incubated using the method you did with body heat and when he hatched I was having the same issue as the ducks in this video. He managed to crack open and make a small opening but I could see he was growing weaker and weaker so I slowly took the shell apart making sure not to damage any of the blood vessels, although I hope I'm never in a situation to do that again. I was successful and I believe it was because of your video. He's now 5 months old, healthy and a fan of your videos as well. I put them on for him so he can watch the other animals, and he goes back and forth along the screen trying to peak and socialize with them.

Peoples say you have to let them die but it s rarely genetic. In the vast majority of cases it s a humidity or temperature fail (egg being on the side of the hen or failing incubator) causing this, and it will no be passed to the childrens due to not being genetic.
