I Stayed in the UK's WORST RATED Hotel

Today I'll be staying in the worst rated hotel in the UK (The Grand Hotel, Scarborough). It has terrible reviews on tripadvisor but what is it really like...

Yep it wouldn't bother me I would just think of it as part of the Holiday I have stayed in ropey places before but I have still enjoyed my time there just laugh about it. I have stayed at the Royal Hotel at Whitby that gets a slating but I liked it there and the Burstin Hotel at Folkstone again had a nice break there and that's owned by Britannia but it was full and they have over 500 rooms so they must be doing something right.

The wardrobe thing is actually tragic. A wardrobe fell on a woman in the Britannia Adelphia in Liverpool and she did not survive. I imagine that is why they are now chained up.

feel like it does deserve negative reviews, it can do better, given its location and the nice exterior, they can afford to make the rooms up to standard.

I think it's okay for the money remember Britannia Hotels cater for the bottom end of the market if you want 5 star standards then you need to pay 5 star prices and your not going to get that in Scarborough in the foreseeable future . A lot of people would be quite happy to stay there just relax and enjoy what it's got to offer not what it hasn't got to offer.

The seagulls love it, I was there today (July 2024) and they are nesting all over it. I think they see it as a cliff face! Seagull hotel on the outside, human hotel on the inside! Central heating always makes a noise in large buildings, particularly hotels, in my experience. Glad you covered what it smells like as well as what it looks like!

I’ve worked at The Grand Hotel a few times. The wardrobe you mentioned is attached to the wall for safety reasons, same with the windows on the upper floors, I’ve had to deal with people climbing out up near the domes. I must admit your video was good.

The trouble is, these places keep trying to be 'hotels', but don't live up to hotel standards. I stay in a lot of youth hostels and cheap hotels in Europe. Chains like Formule 1 usually offer a clean, basic bedroom, but little else...and it works. If these places closed some of the bars etc, took the TV out of the rooms and supplied wifi, they could concentrate on keeping the rest clean and servicable.

It's such a cool building in the perfect position, but they're struggling to fit the grand building's rooms that are from another time to modern habits, large ballroom areas that would have been used for banquets now look sad as empty bar areas, a room that has a grand fireplace just gets used for gambling machines. Scarborough used to be a classy resort town when the Victorians thought sea bathing was the fancy thing to do, but the high class market isn't there anymore to enable this building to function as it was originally intended.

My grandmother works there as a manager, i am also friends with some of the staff there. It was and still is a great place though does has issues. Teenagers run into the building in large groups up then destroy any rooms they can get into by flooding/destroying furniture/ breaking lamps and etr, they dont get much money due to issues with the teenagers destroying rooms and other situations, the food is alright not 5 star if you dont pay 5 star but its alright, the entertainment changes every night, it can be the 3 woman dancing in flashy outfits, movies in the big screen you just saw, bingo night which my friend actually does as you heard his voice calling out numbers, a young lad they pay quite well for his age to sing and olay his guitar (his dream is to be a famous singer) and they are helping him by giving him gigs at their building weekly. They offer wedding venues and birthdays. On Christmas they do special things for guests and especially on new year's. I am not denying the place has issues but i will stand by the fact that it shouldn't be the worst rated as its actually better then some places and better then the hotel i worked at

Its an amazing piece of architecture and is worth the money for a place so full of Vintage Grandure. The lower level rooms smell of damp, have no windows and are small and claustrophobic but are cheaper and then some of the upper rooms have Jacuzzi bathtubs and were only £50pn. The ameneties are adequate for the cost. Its a beautiful old building worth a stay 💞

I Stayed there earlier this year ... work related for a band playing a concert in scarborough , worst hotel i have stayed in in 30 years . key points , room , on entering , half drunk glass of apparently whiskey on bedside table , open needle cover and blood and skin in shower , documented and reported to hotel they did not give a flying .. hotel GM was in a state of stockholm syndrome regarding the state of his utter rubbish hotel ... other members of our group found that in their room ( 2 adults and a 1 year old kid ) a fuzebox off the wall at kid finger height .. they checked out to the much safer travel lodge across the road .. this place is a death trap ... and after the week later the brighton hotel of this chain burnt down kind of tells it how it is .. if it doesn't burn itself down then the dodgy electrics will ... again .. a place that is the worst hotel globally .. now don't go and book a room to see .. just avoid this sorry state of a hotel ... then the breakfast .... oh my god ... worst i have seen ... worst staff ... went in the bin.. shame i could not fit the entire hotel in there too...

Yeah the entertainment seemed a bit rubbish but, I do like bingo😂however, most people venture out to get entertained - usually by shine outstanding drunk locals making food of themselves - or the odd tourist!!!😂 And then, you're really only in the room to sleep, not live! Not sure of the precise downfall but was after the 70's when wealthy people used to stay and political parties had their conferences there.
