I worked for the Hyatt for 12 years and have visited a LOT of the hotels. Kyoto Hyatt, while it wasn't the one that was the most extravagant, it was the one I was the most attached it. Could have been the massive hill that it's on that I skated down, no breaks.

We stayed in this hotel over Christmas, in a standard room. The breakfast was so good, and the staff were just so incredibly kind and thoughtful. My tween wanted white rice and Japanese style pickles with her breakfast and they brought us some each morning. We actually got a special at this hotel and it included 10,000 yen to spend on food, which went for Christmas cake and room service. Room service was really wild, because they brought in an actual table with the meals.

  • @rachelk7784

@@SharpLife4 , nothing? Japan doesn't have a tipping culture. I think they would think it was weird if I tried to tip or might be insulted. I do know Japanese hotels appreciate when you get out word about how good their service is and I've had hotels ask for a good review on-line. The Hyatt didn't ask for that, but I would whole heartedly recommend them, especially if you have dietary restrictions. Their room service is actually marked and for breakfast they offer non-dairy milks and off menu avocado toast.

Wow, it is so surreal to see you in there, because in the years I worked for the Kyoto Convention Bureau I took clients on tours of this hotel, or met with clients in the cafe of this hotel COUNTLESS times. So surreal to see this. Fun fact: The fancy room your friend stayed in is the BEST room in that hotel and the ONLY room that has a hinoki bath. It is also worth noting that this is not, by any means, the truest 5-star experience Kyoto has to offer. Aman Kyoto, 4 Seasons, Ritz Carlton, and a few others (not to mention Ryokan) will all offer a next level experience. Or, better yet, I would love to see you take a nights stay at the new(ish) Park Hyatt Kyoto, if your production budget can handle it. $$$$$$ I think it goes for about $1500 - $2K a night. I love Hyatt Regency Kyoto, it is so nice, and I loved working with their team. But to be honest, I had many clients say "This is a great 4 or 4.5 star hotel, this is not 5 star. . . . "

Interesting to see these rooms! I stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Tokyo for part of my trip there (got a deal by bundling with airline tickets), and our room was very similar to Norm's regular room: an extremely nice hotel room (no konpeito lol, though there was a thank you note with an origami crane!) I'm not sure I would know what to do with a room as big as Noah's unless I was either moving into it or spending my entire vacation in the actual hotel room! That wooden tub did look nice though. Also now wishing we had taken advantage of the breakfast: we ate at combini every day so we could get going faster! 😂

Oh hyatts can be such nice hotels but spendy. I hope you enjoed it. Your breakfast looks better than the one i got from the hyatt in Bellevue Washington. Restaurant advertised organsic fresh ingredients, what i got was instant and packaged products. Nothing like paying $30+ for powdered scrambled eggs. Can't wait to see what your adventure is like dyring your stay.

Noah might have the bigger room but I'd definitely prefer your room just for the colourful kimono patterns. Noah's seems too extravagant.

Having stayed at the Hyatt in Canberra quite a bit due to my work, I can attest, the best part is breakfast 😂😁 Also, can't wait to check out some cool Japanese hotels in June when I finally make my way over there.

Both rooms are really nice, but I definitely prefer yours. The kimono pattern above the bed is beautiful. I just wouldn't use a room like Noah's. It's way more than I would need.

Great vid Norm - shame I can't share it with my partner who is currently learning Japanese. Think she has ideas that's where the honeymoon could be and the $500/night would be a stretch and after seeing this I know we'd want to upgrade.

Honestly there's something extra nice about having breakfast at a hotel, even if it's a cheaper one!
