I feel this to such a high extent. I'm going for a shiny Piplup, and I started hunting on Christmas Day. My switch says I've played 150+ hours, and I'm currently 3,950 resets in. Not even a shiny Starly yet. I've gotten nothing. I'm going insane- I have begun to hear colours.

@@algotkristoffersson15 well for me, it’s also about doing different kinds of hunts. I’m not very interested in hatching a bajillion eggs unless it’s a special egg. I like starter resets, fossil hunts, safari zone, etc

I went through all of these emotions as I was shiny hunting my Dialga. The part about the need to continue after wasting too much time already or thinking that my copy of the game is just shiny locked for unexplainable reasons was me before 3400 resets to finally get that shiny.

Shiny hunting starters is one of the most painful things a Pokémon fan can do

I remember watching several streams, trying to catch the one where you got the turtwig, and I missed it because of a band contest :(. Congrats on the shiny!

My first shiny was a green Cubone in FireRed in 2012. At the time I didn't even know about shinies, but I catch it anyway and green Marowak was a valuable team member who carried me and my Charizard all the way to Hall of Fame. But then I haven't catch or even seen a legitimate not-guaranteed shiny for many years, until pink Castform in Pokemon GO in 2019.

I appreciate the admittance of 98 hours. You earned that title and kept your honor at the same time👍

I did this hunt, going into it thinking it'd be "easy" (I did not do any research..) and boy oh boy was I wrong, but after 20 hours I knew I couldn't give up. Took me 80 hours to get my shiny monkey. BUT I DID IT, this video gave me the strength knowing others have suffered this fate.

"I spent 100 hours resetting for a shiny starter" Me who gave up after 20 days: "Damn okay"

Can I just say- that shiny reaction was THE BEST one I have EVER heard

Aight i have reason to believe you are blessed with shiny powers, because genuinely the minute i clicked on this video, my _own_ shiny hunt in Brilliant Diamond for an shiny chimchar starter (which had gone well over odds at this point) came to an end

Man, I feel this in my soul. I've been shiny hunting in my Pokemon X game for a shiny fenniken for about 1,000 resets but then shiny hunting for the squirtle you also get and I've been on it for a long time, I've lost count of how many resets and hours I've spent on it.

You are the shining example of why you shouldn't soft reset for a shiny starter (in BDSP!) I'm happy that you finally got one! I watched you play when you where in your first few hundred, so I had a feeling that it was going to take a while. Thanks for all the time you put into it!

OOOooooff.... Great job hanging in there! I was at about 450-500 or so resets for my shiny Piplup. Found a shiny starly along the way, too! So I really had an extremely easy time goodness.

I only caught three Shinies. The requested Ponyta, a Magmar, and a Dustox.

Congrats on your shiny! Though I'm not very interested in the change of color for the gen 4 starter shinies, it is still satisfying to watch people get it after an extremely long time.

during one stream I asked lucy for recommendations of a shiny to hunt in my original diamond game because I've always thought the shiny sprites looked great in that game, and she said chatot she will be pleased to know that I have found him. he is my son. Here's a little story, recently I've gotten into rom hacks. And once I got around to playing blaze black 2 redux, my starter (snivy) was a shiny. I didn't even soft reset for it. It just happened, the full 1/512 shiny odds of that game just decided to bless me on my first mon. Since blaze black 2 makes the starters hidden ability I was able to storm through the game with a shiny contrary serperior. Very nice

Whenever I saw the stream title and the words "blue turtwig" I was expecting the turtwig to actually be blue. But it's shiny is just as similar as piplup is

I'm soft resetting for Chimchar. I'm about 110 hours in and at 1,475 if I recall correctly. Gonna name the little darling Razzy after a raspberry. Congrats on your shiny!!! I see people constantly go "why would you do that? A new game came out in the time it took you." I've played the 3 original Sinnoh games and used all 3 starters, why not try with a shiny? I got a shiny mudkip as my starter in Omega Ruby during my second playthrough of Hoenn and it's been the best! Plus my bestie and I are hunting together, she's hunting Turtwig! It's really fun tbh :)

@@kweeniepiez I prefer starting with the shiny. It's not fun if I catch it in an outbreak or later in the game because then I won't really use it. It's literally up to the individual person what they wanna do. And of course I know I can catch Pokemon that way. As I said, I've played through with all three starters so I figured why not shiny hunt the starter. It's easier for me to do it that way.

I spent my entire winter break hunting for a Shiny Turtwig, only for me to get a Shiny uncatchable Starly a few days before the break ended. It was the worst defeat in years.

Nicely done, and very lucky. Currently, Brilliant Diamond is my most-played Switch game... but all 285 hours have also gone to hunting Turtwig, at 6,914 resets (and I found *four* Starly thus far). Hoping to get it before Feb. 21, when the Mystery Gifts are no longer available. My brother's hunting Chimchar in Shining Pearl, and he's also around 6k (having found one Starly).

Between my brother (we're twins, so we've played all the games together) and me, we've completed 39 full-odds hunts (where the only modification can be the shiny charm), and only 8 of those have crossed the 2x mark. Hoping that number doesn't go up to 10.

lol I love these videos; it reminds me of my chimchar hunt in Platinum. I was legit over 40k encounters for that annoying fr. It was worth it though, in spite of the painstaking hours I spent hunting it XD

I found my first ever shiny yesterday after playing pokemon for over a decade! It was a Drifblim in a Distortion but I didn’t have any Pokeballs on me. I went to get some and when I came back, it was gone. Reloaded the save, now the distorsion was gone. Pain. (The reason I had no pokeballs was because I had by mistake put them into the item box while I was emptying my inventory and didn’t realize until it was too late. And I had no materials on me.)

I fondly remember this hunt, I was also doing some shiny hunts of my own while I was watching you're looking for your son.

rewatching this video bc im currently in a similar situation. i got ultra moon years ago and have yet to play it all the way through bc i insisted on playing through it with a shiny rowlet. the usum starter cutscene is 4 minutes long. i stubbornly insisted on only soft resetting for it for a while but eventually got tired of that and decided to start masuda-ing for it on the side. 500 soft resets (aka ~33 hours) and a little over 100 eggs and my green owl has yet to come home. wish me luck !
