A battleship is a large armored warship with a main battery consisting of large caliber guns. It dominated naval warfare in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The term battleship came into use in the late 1880s to describe a type of ironclad warship, now referred to by historians as pre-dreadnought battleships. In 1906, the commissioning of HMS Dreadnought into the United Kingdom's Royal Navy heralded a revolution in the field of battleship design. Subsequent battleship designs, influenced by HMS Dreadnought, were referred to as "dreadnoughts", though the term eventually became obsolete as dreadnoughts became the only type of battleship in common use. Battleships were a symbol of naval dominance and national might, and for decades the battleship was a major factor in both diplomacy and military strategy. A global arms race in battleship construction began in Europe in the 1890s and culminated at the decisive Battle of Tsushima in 1905, the outcome of which significantly influenced the design of HMS Dreadnought. The launch of Dreadnought in 1906 commenced a new naval arms race. Jutland was the largest naval battle and the only full-scale clash of dreadnoughts of the war, and it was the last major battle in naval history fought primarily by battleships. The Naval Treaties of the 1920s and 1930s limited the number of battleships, though technical innovation in battleship design continued. Both the Allied and Axis powers built battleships during World War II, though the increasing importance of the aircraft carrier meant that the battleship played a less important role than had been expected in that conflict. The value of the battleship has been questioned, even during their heyday. There were few of the decisive fleet battles that battleship proponents expected and used to justify the vast resources spent on building battlefleets. Even in spite of their huge firepower and protection, battleships were increasingly vulnerable to much smaller and relatively inexpensive weapons: initially the torpedo and the naval mine, and later aircraft and the guided missile. The growing range of naval engagements led to the aircraft carrier replacing the battleship as the leading capital ship during World War II, with the last battleship to be launched being HMS Vanguard in 1944. Just got around to seeing this one, so a little late I know, but... Davie, I don't play bass. I have never really had interest in playing bass (horrifying, I know). But a couple years ago when I was going through a very very dark chapter in my own life, I accidentally watched one of your videos (sorry, I don't remember which one). Your sense of humor and clear passion for your craft was very endearing to me during that time. I subscribed and have been watching your videos when the algorithm feeds them to me ever since. Your videos NEVER cease to entertain me Davie, and seeing more of your personhood exposed makes me happy. It's like having this funny friend you don't know so well, then you finally spend time with them one-on-one, get to know them. You're a treasure.

One of the biggest things that keeps me watching your videos is how you will say something that's not very serious or joking, but you have this sad emotional music that makes it feel meaningful and it cracks me up. You are an inspiration as a bass player and a content creator, and it's good to see you doing something you love even though there are jealous people who want to drag your name through the mud. Keep doing what you're doing! Your videos have helped me through depressing times, where all I had for comfort were youtubers who just wanted to spread laughter and joy.

I have watched your videos and been a subscriber for a quite a while now. As you talked in this video, I realized that part of what I like so much about your channel is that the character you play is fun and interesting, but also, when you are responding to other bass players, you are kind and encouraging, as well as funny. I'm a mental health therapist and I agree that life includes down times, hard times, all of the times (yes. I tell very bad jokes). I have worked with people dealing with fame, sudden fortunes, etc., as an offshoot of my main work with people who have experienced complex and developmental trauma. The way that you describe your experience in this video feels genuine and I can tell that you are conscious and intentional about your own mental and emotional wellbeing. That's beautiful. And, so, as I read what I've written, I realize that I want to add this: part of why I love your channel is that my job includes hearing about some of the worst kinds of things humans do to each other. The genuine kindness and generosity of spirit you project helps me refill my own well so that I can be fresh, positive, and fully present for the people who do their therapy work with me. And I see I commented on this same video two years ago. So, there's the proof that I mean what I say!

I used to play Bass I started when I was 14 and played in a Metal band for 14 years I stopped playing after Getting married and Having Children I just didn't have the time anymore But you've been one of the inspirations for Me to Play again and I'm setting My computer up to start recording My own stuff soon. I loved the "Real you" and have been watching you for years. My children love to watch your videos with me as well. Davie, I've been watching for years, and seeing how much you've grown, seeing who you reached out to including myself, your content has always been some of my favorite on KZread. I've been watching since 2017, and you were a huge inspiration to me. So huge an inspiration, in fact, that I wanted to learn how to play guitar. I built a passion for music because of how your content touched my heart. Now, I'm building a music career because of the inspiration and passion you fed me. Although you say that your on-screen personality is just playing a character, I think the beauty of your screen presence is that your kindness and talent radiate well through your silly, bombastic and even self-deprecating humor. I think he's still slightly in character here. If you watch his video from a few years ago asking his fans to donate to him on Patreon because of KZread demonetization, he appears very shy and soft-spoken.

I dont always vibe with your videos but seeing you be so honest and open really touched my heart, thank you for everything you do and the smiles you bring.

So I just discovered this channel last week. I only recently started getting into bass and this channel is just the vibe I need right now. Its wholesome, not foul and too serious. Nice.

Real Davie is such an honest, calm person. I feel 69% more relaxed after watching this

I can relate to a lot of what you said. But stay focused and committed all the way. I remember the first time I watched your videos it put a smile on my face as I also play bass which I must say that the bass is of 7+ instruments I play and master. We all have our ups and downs but like you said, if you're passionate about something just keep on pressing forward and just shut out all negativity all together. Dave, English is not may native language, I don' play bass (or any other instrument) and I don't follow many KZreadrs. I am a police officer in Croatia and watch your videos mostly at home after night shifts before going to sleep, because they make me laugh and calm me, even with all those slaps. I just want to say that you are doing good job and you are helping people like me to carry on, so if you don't film any more video, that's fine, you did enough and we have materials to rewatch ror years, don't be hard on yourself. :)

Love this video man. I can relate to a lot of the things you say and whilst I'd love to see you act "normally" I think this video is actually perfect. You still do your online persona whilst saying things about how you are to friends and family. I understand what its like to be shy and why you've got a persona online . I've always loved your videos not just because you're a sick bassist but because even though the person on camera obviously isn't the "real" you, it's still clearly an excellent reflection of you (just heavily exaggerated:D)

dude I always look forward to your videos and the fact I've missed out on over a year of them is just... upsetting, moreso that I missed kind of a massive bomb like this one that really sheds light on how bigger youtubers feel

Dave, I came across your KZread channel kind of by chance. Glad I found it actually, you've made me smile and laugh when I needed it. Your bass playing skills are amazing. I am a bass player who started late in life, and had some measure of success, but I know I have much to learn still.
