    I jumped from a 2019 MT-09 to the 2021 701 SM... and it's plenty fast, very stable even at 120mph. The stock suspension and tires are excellent. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the switch, I feel zero urge for more power even at the track. My national champ superbike instructor took it for a spin and he was highly impressed by the handling. Not seeing myself buying a heavier bike again.

    Have you had any issues come up with the 701? Ex. oil leaks, master cylinder, clutch problems, etc.? Any issues? I ask because i was thinking about getting the 701 supermoto next year and i don't want to waste my money.

    I agree.. it’ll be hard for me to go back to a regular superbike now. Of course superbikes are awesome for high speed, the mt09 is also better than the 701 for that. But that’s about it.. I find the 701 better for literally every other scenario. Hands down my favorite bike I’ve owned so far. The handling is shocking.

    I'm looking at two bikes new mt09 and this 701. I'm looking for passenger info for the 701. Bikes I've owned are cbr600s, zx14r. And it's been since 2017 I've riden . I took my brother's xt250 out and riding that small thing to the max was a joy. Come from a motocross background, and riding a dirt bike on the road has a more bad boy feel vs doing 180mph on the last bike the zx14r.

    I went from 2019 701 to 2018 MT09, now I’m on a 2022 690 and going back to MT09 because I’m doing a lot more high mileage trips. The 690 sits comfortably at 110mph but after doing that for 30+ miles at a time it gets uncomfortable

    Your 701 is a great choice! After upgrading your air intake, exhaust, and ECU, the power will truly blow you away! I used to only ride sport bikes while living in Southern CA, but after moving to a remote area of CO, I prefer off-road adventures, and only ride on the street to get to my favorite trails. I recently purchased a 2023 KTM 350 EXC-F and upgraded exhaust, airbox, and the ECU, now it performs like my 500 EXC used to. I think we all go through the sports bike phase, but the risks of speeding tickets, getting killed from riding too fast with others is too high. You mentioned the initial cost of a high-end sport bike, plus expensive upgrades, maintenance, and uncomfortable riding position, so you made a great choice! Enjoy this awesome new bike and share videos of all your upgrades!

    I really appreciate it! I have another build series video coming out soon and am going to get back into my regular postings. I’m still loving this bike. I’m saving power mods for last still and know I’ll be blown away by them, the bike is already great in stock form but obviously missing some snap and throttle response. I’m actually interest in purchasing a ktm 350 exc-f or a yz250f eventually as well! Id like to venture more into off-road riding. I’m so happy being able to feasibly afford doing tons of mods on this bike without feeling guilty, I’m the type of person who makes BIG purchases such as new bikes,cars,watches but generally refuse to make small purchases in order to reach those goals. Owning a bike such as the Panigale V2 I couldn’t justify paying the insane price for mods over just simply saving for another bike. The issue with that is I love working on my bikes and it makes me feel a lot more connected to them so I really wanted a bike I can constantly be working on, yet is reliable. This 701 is my favorite bike I’ve ever owned. 👍

    Absolutely bang on. I had a Gixxer 750, loved it, but it wasn’t comfortable below 130k because of the ergonomics. I traded it for a KTM 530 XCRW. Around town the dirt bike is a scalpel, super flickable, weighs less than 250 lbs, and will still do 100 miles an hr with dirtbike gearing. I bought an Indian FTR 1200, which is basically a dirtbike on steroids :) this guy is 100% correct. I miss my sport bike sometimes, but love my KTM all of the time. The Indian so far has been incredible too.

    I just bought a ktm smc 690r after years of amazing naked bikes and sports bikes. When I compare it to my Tuono v4r, Ducati s4r, Mille 1000r, cbr1000rr, triumph speed triple S I can honest say this bike is the most fun I have ever had riding. I fit into the class of rider you mentioned that evolve to a super moto and I am so happy I made the move. I can say that every bar your personal opinion for track sits true for me also. I am experienced track rider, so on a fast track I would prefer a sports bike to go fast, but to have fun I would still choose the ktm. To that point I have been on track with Wayne Gardiner and Kevin Magee here in Australia ( both ex 500cc gp riders) and Kevin rides a super moto as his preferred track bike. FYI Magee was 500cc world championship runner up

    I've been riding a 450cc dirtbike since I was around 17, been riding in general since 11 or so. I dreamed of a CBR1000rr for years. I finally got the chance to test one out. A literal rocketship to say the least. But didn't fall in love 2010 low miles clean spec. Just couldn't do it, no fear just no love. I test drove a more beat up Yamaha WR450 Supermoto with Michelin semi slicks. I had never felt more of a connection in terms of feel cornering and grip that I've never felt in any machine ever. It is nimble in ways you couldn't imagine.. power is there in the street as long as no highway runs. But the slingshot torque 450s have on the road combined with extreme flickability is something that has to be felt to understand.

    I absolutely LOVE this trend of guys downsizing and going with sumos. Supersports are amazing. But if you can’t ride the track often, I just don’t get it. They aren’t comfy commuting. They don’t get great gas mileage. They are great for racing. And if you street race, have fun. But for the majority of riders, a supermoto is plenty fast as we need. It goes off road. It jumps. It is an absolute blast in the city. The more riders that buy supermotos, should get more manufacturers making them. I have an FZ-07. I borrow my friends WR250 all the time. I would sell my FZ in a heartbeat for a Husqvarna 701 if I could find one where I’m at.

  • @JonesBrosGarage

    @JonesBrosGarage

    Жыл бұрын

    Yup I totally agree. This bike is so much more fun on the street. Honestly even for amateur track riders a 600/1000 still doesn’t make sense. As a weekend warrior track rider you aren’t going to be progressing as fast on a r1 as you would on an r3 most likely. Superbikes look awesome and are a blast for high speed highway pulls.. but anything else this is where it’s at. My wife has an mt07 and I feel like people who ride the mt07/mt09 are in a pretty similar mentality to sumo riders. The MTs are probably a little better for highway and commuting but still have that lightweight playful feel for a street bike. 65-85 horsepower on a bike sub 430lbs is the sweet spot for street riding in my opinion, and I’ve pretty much owned or ridden it all. 👍 And you’re right, we need more sumos. The klx300sm looks pretty good. Would like to see a new wr, maybe a wr350/450r geared towards sumo. A new drz with fuel injection. And we could even use some high strung race bikes like the 450smcr for street market, if people don’t ride as often and can handle the maintenance.

    You made very accurate points, I'm thinking about switching to a supermoto for the same exact reasons. I've got a ninja 636 2019 which I love, and I went to the track a few times this year, but it relly is very expensive. Also for what it's capable of doing this bike it's a waste to use it on the street... I'm really tempted by the 701

  • @JonesBrosGarage

    @JonesBrosGarage

    Жыл бұрын

    The 636 is my absolute favorite 600. I was between the 636 or the Daytona 675 when the v2 came out. I loved the 959 but it didn’t have the single sided swing arm. That pushed me over the edge to get the Panigale V2 instead of the 636/Daytona. With all of that said this bike is WAY better on the road. Id say I can use probably 65-70% of this bikes potential on the road instead of the 30% I was capable of on a supersport. That’s the tip of the iceberg though. Low speeds, traffic, just cruising around. Night and day, this bike blows a supersport out of the water. The ease of being able to wheelie and brake super hard to a stop under 40mph make this bike so much more fun while staying closer to the speed limit. I sometimes miss the highway pulls and seeing the Ducati in the garage and that’s about it. I find the 701 to be beautiful so it doesn’t bother me too badly. This bike also will excel at the track I’m super sure of that. If you want a better street experience and occasional track day, but can handle giving up long highway rides and pulls… it’s a no brainer. 👍

It wasn’t that the V2 wasn’t a good bike, I still believe it’s one of the best supersports in production. The issue was that I wanted a break from owning a supersport.

    @@JonesBrosGarage I hear you. The V2 is plenty powerful for the road and I am realistic on my abilities so think it will be more than enough for me. I do like like the look of the V4 and if you put it in low power mode it restricts it to 155bhp which is as much as the V2. That’s just crazy. Enjoy the 701, I had a yamaha DT125R 2 stroke and I got an extra set of wheels with supermotor tyres and if you are OK to swap them yourself you get two bikes in one. One for off road trails and one for the road/ track. Keep up the videos.

    @@ianjayasinghe5042 thank you! And yeah I think I’ll eventually do that. This thing would be a bit of a handful at my usual single track so I’d have to find a more open area to let her open. The v2 is way better for the road. Better power band, less heat, lighter. That’s why I prefer the V2. Also it’s a twin powered Panigale, as they should be. I just want the V4 for bragging rights basically seeing as I have other bikes for those situations.

After all of this the bike will be completely different in the best way possible. Seen the other video of yours with things you hate.. seat is absolutely shit and everyone knows it lol, this is the first SM ever to have a quickshifter from factory so yea its not the best, and fuel indicator.... well reset your trip meter and usualy it does 120 miles with a tank.

    @@sumosevn I’ve briefly ridden some new 450mx bikes in stock form. The 701 is way way faster, but also feels very “caged” by the emissions standards since it’s street legal. It lacks that “snap” of a 450mx in stock form. Probably also because the gearing will take you to 125mph easily. If you get exhaust, tune and down gear which is my plan I think you’ll find a bike more brutal than a 450, a tad less raw, but way better handling. The suspension and brakes on the 701 can’t be praised enough.. it’s an incredible set of gear for a supermoto. The stopping power and suspension is waaaaay more sport bike level than a stock 450mx bike. I think you’d be happy with it all in all.. yes it’s a tiny bit less raw than a 450 and obviously you’ll notice the extra weight if you’re doing slow speed wheelies and stuff… but riding fast, the 701 is an absolute beast. Also my wife has an mt07… the suspension is night and day compared to the 701.. the 701 is leagues faster and yes I do feel quicker on the 701 than the Ducati on anything but straights

    Great video, I’ve watched quite a few of yours and I have been really enjoying them, just about to pick up a 23 KTM 690 SMC-R But was trying to hold out for a 2024 hoping they would add the TFT. What are your thoughts? Thanks

    Hey, thank you! I have more videos coming out for this years riding season. I’m working on editing my build series part 2 for this bike.. which leads me to the point I wanted to cover.. I added a cumpan cockpit assistant to this bike and it’s fixed all of the things I disliked about the lack of instrumentation. Honestly I’d probably take it over a tft, it’s lighter and extremely easy to read and effective. With that said I can only see emissions gripping this platform tighter and tighter until it’s dead.. id personally just pick one up now honestly, or whenever it’s smart financially for you

    Great points. I’m currently considering buying a 701 but the only thing stopping me is that my wife enjoys riding pillion occasionally and not sure it’s suitable-have you tried two up? My backup option is the Duke 790/890R but prefer the 701..

    I have a ktm 690 enduro that i setup for sm and to have a passenger you'd need to change the spring on the rear shock atleast. maybe more. I had my girlfriend on the back once and it was not enjoyable. id go alot bigger for a bike that would be fun for a passenger to ride on. the ktm 1290 maybe. I used to have a moto guzzi norge 1200 and that handled a passenger well and was really comfortable to ride. Not as agile as a supermoto but for a passenger i have yet to find a bike that could match it. Its surprising how much different as passenger makes.

    Great vid bro, you mentioned that the plastics are super cheap to replace. Did you mean aftermarket or oem? The oem parts I’ve seen seemed pretty expensive to me. Also fyi, this bike takes four oil filters that cost 80 bucks. Four filters for less than two liters of oil! I’ll admit, that ticked me off lol.

    You really dont have to replace the plastics. They rarely hit the street. Pls its 2 filters and 2 screens. The oil is $80 lol

    It's not little bit tougher then a aportbike, it's way tougher especially if you install proper enduro guards, I dropped it many times, I would've absolutely ruined sport bike.

    Awesome bike! Do you have any plans to upgrade or change anything on it? Even just a new pipe or plastics ect? I live near you so I'll keep an eye out for you. I don't think I've seen anyone else with that bike around here. Enjoy the new bike and be safe man. I'm looking forward to more videos about it ✌️

    This is the only one I’ve ever seen in person! I plan on changing pretty much everything over time. Every motor bolt on, gaurds, carbon, all new levers and maybe bars. New graphics and powder coat the frame and potentially wheels. Looking at an exhaust, intake and tune to begin with. Thank you!

    @@JonesBrosGarage Is if euro 5 2022? Because then alot of mods won't work or give you more performance. Pirate racing proofed that intake mods on the 701 2022 don't do anything even when adjusting the air fuel ratio. Further more O2 dongles won't work either since the ecu will throw a code so they have to minimize the resistance in the dongle till it does nothing. Power commanders won't work either since the closed loop will simply overwrite anything you do because of that emissions crap. I would go with the coober ecu and a decatted muffler. The coober ecu is currently the only mod that does something significant on the euro 5 bikes.

    @@VirtueelGamingNL It’s a 2022 brand new so it would have to adhere to euro 5. I’m not sure if the US and EU 701s are completely different but I have the fueling dongle and 1000% feel a difference. On Rottweilers website it also was the same model dongle as the older 701s for the 2022 US. I’ll have to look into that!

    @@JonesBrosGarage ahh yeah US model seem to be less strict. Here in the EU we are currently restricted to coober ecu only which is quite alot more expensive then the rottweiler fuel dongle.

    @@VirtueelGamingNL yeah that’s really a shame. I knew the US and EU models are different because when you buy parts it matters which you have.. I just wasn’t sure all of the differences. (Other than the EU bikes have way nicer turn signals lol)

    Just prefer the Husqvarna colors mainly. For this model year they’re identical bikes with identical parts aside from the seat and plastics so I just picked the color I preferred basically. When I was a junior in high school the 701sm came out and I watched KZread clips of it all the time and fell in love with it. Nothing wrong with the original 690, obviously 👍
