    For fuel just reset one of your odometers every time you refill. This way you even get to know the distance you have left with the remaining fuel.

    I've got the 2019 enduro. IMO the best year they made, no TC bull shit and the engine is smooth. granted, it sounds like a sac of hammers thrown down a hallway at idle. (especially with aluminum skid plate) I live on Vancouver Island in Canada so.... ECU is not locked down. 73 HP outta the box. I only have to clutch it up in 6th. Stock can sux BALLS. Went with the Yosh slip on, up one one the front sprocket and the Husky foam air filter. FUCK THE QUICK SHIFTER and the clutch. I only use it for staring from a dead stop and brake turns. Only complaints are : 1- auto de-compresion was put in 180 degrees out. Cost me two starters. 2- Stock fuel pump is JUNK. Smoked it at 5000Km. put a $75.00 GM TPI truck pump in it. 3- Back tire mysteriously keeps going bald WTF?. 4- Headlight.... I wont even go there, carbide lantern would be better. $16,500.00 out the door. The look on sport bike riders faces after I beat their ass... PRICELESS! Clocked just over 52,000 Km since Nov. 2019. I ride it almost every day (like I stole it) and still haven't touched the valves. (apparently I like to procrastinate a little bit) WORTH EVERY PENNY, NO REGRETS. OK, one regret.... that I haven't gotten around to getting the Power Commander V yet.

    Valid points as well as quirky traits that most bikes come with . The quick shift is truly a mystery that i have narrowed down to the techs that set up/service the bikes . Slave master cylinder is another hit or miss . The indicators along with seat and hopefully pipe can easily be fixed by Husky and should for that price .

    So glad I got the 2018 690 with the real tachometer and gear indicator. I also changed the mapping dial (under the seat) to the advanced setting and it makes it a lot more snappy and responsive on the throttle and shifting. I don’t have any problems with my KTM melting the stock turn signals or anything. Definitely going to upgrade my exhaust for some weight reduction and upgrade the headlight. I don’t think my year has a quick shifter either but I don’t think I’d use it anyway. Looking forward to seeing your upgrades to give me some ideas on things I need.

    LOL, my 2021 has a perfectly working factory gear indicator. They got rid of that feature on the 2022 or it's just a US quirk? :D The lack of gas gauge never bothered me at all. The stock seat is bad, it's still OK for about an hour's ride. Works great at the track, the grip is perfect with KLIM Desert pants. (Please, ffs, don't ride in jeans and baby shoes.) Factory comfort seat is available pretty cheap. The exhaust endcan includes the catalytic converter, that's why it gets so hot. The factory titanium I have on my 2021 pretty much solves the problem. As for the quickshifter, for me it's about 90% trouble free. I learned on the first couple hundreds miles that it must be *cycled fully, operated firmly under throttle with authority*... Do not touch the lever until you are committed to shifting or the ignition will be cut.... Things that still annoy ME after a couple thousand miles: kickstand too long, mushy/cr*ppy dashboard buttons, constantly flashing ABS light in mode2, surging/choking when the engine is cold, super jerky low RPM performance (partially fixed by a simple fuel dongle), turn signal switch feedback, stock mirrors, hydraulic chain tensioner randomly rattles after start for a few seconds like a bag of bolts. Overall, still a f*cking great bike!

    Your right. At that price point it def shouldn't have these issues. Other bikes at the same price are decked out with tech and premium components. The triumph street triple 765rs for example. Beautiful tft dash.customizable riding modes. All the bells and whistles. Smooth fueling, decent exhaust. Not all choked up with giant cat converters. Premium seat. Smooth quick shifter. Great headlights. Nice paint. All for the exact same price... Sure it's no super moto, but none of these issues would add weight, or make it less of a super moto if they were fixed. Like you said, it's all just cost cutting. But when you see what other bikes offer for the same price, you kinda feel like you're getting gypped. It's like they know they monopolize the market having the only real road legal super moto. So they don't have any competition forcing them to be better.

    You don't need to ride a certain distance to disable the TC on my 2020, the light is on automatically on startup until you reach that distance, but you can still toggle it freely. You just won't know for sure you held it down long enough till you roll past those first 25 feet and see the light go off(tc on) or stay on(tc off). I agree the inability to permanently toggle TC without an aftermarket solution or LITERALLY a KTM powerparts device manufactured and sold by KTM which allows this. It should be a software toggle. I feel that the seat comfiness got better after 1000 miles. Also, stock seat cover blows. You need a full MX grip seat cover to really make this super rideable. I was baffled by the speed AND rpm minimums and maximums for each gear, but it's worked fine for me for 7k miles.

    Those are pretty good points, actually. I thought this would be another contrived YT list video. I disagree on a TFT screen. I prefer buttons and LED indicators. If they would just make the mapping/traction switch work like it does on the dirt bikes, I would be happy. Permanent ABS setting would be nice, too. But I'm guessing that's illegal, so no one does it. My gripe with the QS is that you can't disable it. Dealer said there is no setting in the software. The only way to shut it off is to pull the sensor connector, which throws a CEL. I have a habit of preloading the shifter with my foot but not going through with the shift. 2 of the bikes I've ridden with a QS would trigger the spark cut out-of-time and cause power surges. I'd rather do it myself with the throttle and have 100% consistency. The exhaust is so hot because it has a catalytic converter. An absolute crime for a motorcycle, IMO. But we don't make the rules, and our votes don't matter.

    The stock muffler gets so hot because it has the catalytic converter elements in it and those require heat to work properly. It stays hot for a long time post ride because those elements get so hot, combined with the thickness of the stainless steel, it holds heat longer than thinner walled aftermarket aluminum/Ti/ carbon pipes will. It melts the stock indicator because the outlet is both before and practically aimed at the indicator… or because of the temperature of the can itself. The KTM version of the pipe still gets (and stays) just as hot, but the indicator doesn’t get melted because the outlet is better positioned.

  • @JonesBrosGarage

    @JonesBrosGarage

    Жыл бұрын

    So the issue is that the 701 is street legal so has to pass emissions in stricter countries such as my own (US) and UK. In order to get it to pass they have to strongly restrict the fuel/air mixture to lower emissions. This isn’t the case on a dirt/race machine that isn’t street legal. So basically you need a slip on exhaust (the stock header pipe is good), an air intake (I recommend rottweiler), and some kind of tuning software (I recommend Power Commander 6). With those 3 parts, the bike with be more aggressive than a 450!

    @@badejobranco honestly it’s really a personal choice. I actually don’t mind a 45 or even stock gearing once this bike is tuned because I like having the top speed, and it still can wheelie second gear. I still think 45 would be a blast and feel more similar to a “real” 450 motocross bike. If you don’t ride high speeds I don’t see any reason not to go with 45! 44 is a nice in-between though if you really can’t decide.

    A supermoto is supposed to be a dirt bike with street tires that’s why those common things like gas indicator and tachometer aren’t there and it’s about simplicity like you don’t actually need it. It is a track bike the tires that come with it are slicks. The person I bought my 701 from which is 2017 raced my bike. You need to change out your exhaust and get ecu tune it greatly reduce the heat, mine used to literally cook my nuts in 35 c weather. They only way to measure gas is to set your trip to 0 when you fill up and then find out when the gas light comes on. I think large part of being expensive has to with the brembos and full WP suspension but coming from a person who owned a DRZ I feel like 701 just feels like good quality.

  • @JonesBrosGarage

    Yeah I do agree with pretty much everything you said. The only reason I had these petty complaints is because I also ride a 450smcr. I expect that to have NOTHING, being it’s a literal race bike. But the 701 isn’t in a true race class generally, is on the heavy side and generally a little more street oriented than most supermotos. I had the same complaints with my Panigale V2 for the same reasons. Yes an R6 is a literal race bike and I can understand it missing features.. but me, Ducati and everybody else fully understands a bike like the Panigale V2 will MOSTLY be ridden on the street and leaving off a gas gauge on bikes like this is simply just laziness/cost cutting justified by them being “track” bikes.

    I have 2021 701, love it but did have catastrophic issues that led to bike requiring replacement.... I had 120kms on the clock, brand new and I lost all power while riding, the bike would start and idle but soon as I put it in gear and clutch out it would bog down and stall, I couldn't work out the issue and put it on a trailer and back to the dealer. Days past and they reluctantly told me the issue - a hardening coating on the cam had somehow seperated from the cam and metalic flakes had made their way through the entire engine. They insisted they would fix it all under warranty but I was not happy about this, I went to the dealership to see the engine in 100 pieces spread accross 2 workbenches and obvious damage everyware... Long story short I told them that it's no longer my bike, I paid for a brand new one and I won't settle for essentially what was going to be a refurbished one, I need a new bike or money back. They gave me the run around for 2-3 weeks so I sent them a letter from a consumer lawyer and 2 days later they had a new bike on a truck comming my way. Obviously this was a huge bummer and disheartening, but, I also accept problems can arise whilst manufacturing, and although the service from the dealer could have been better they did eventually resolve the problem to my satisfaction. The new bike has 3000kms on it now and I love it, keeping my license is going to be a challenge! Arrow exhaust, new levers and mirrors, wrapped it, new headlight and currently looking at air filter options and power commander/firmware tune options. Currently with the new exhaust only 2nd gear wheelies with no clutch is easy, 3rd sometimes at the right rev range, little clutch in 3rd no problems(except for my skill level...). Anyway bumby start to the SM but my favorite bike so far. Edit: I have new seat cover too, highly recommend it, heaps better grip. Also quick shifter for me is fine havnt had a problem but I don't use it often im too used to cluching.
