I SHOT A WOLF! (Self-Filmed)

Ойын-сауық

I shot a wolf! Last season I was out deer hunting by myself looking for whitetail does. I had access to a piece of private land surrounded by public federal and state land. I had to film it on my cell-phone, since the crew let me go hunting by myself which is a rarity these days.
While glassing for does I spotted a wolf. I had been wolf hunting before but it was always the guest hunter who got to shoot. So finally I had my chance on taking a wolf for myself. I waited for him to come into range and let out a shot.

I have the Kifaru universal gun bearer on my Pintler pack. Kifaru suggested the long waist belt which I had to wrap around the Mystery Ranch waist belt twice to get the right position for my gun muzzle. I am wondering if their shorter model would have been better. One issue I would like to resolve a bit is the trigger guard rubs my pack waist belt (leaving a big black patch) and I'm concerned it might wear a hole in the belt.

Randy does more for wildlife management and public lands than anyone I know. He and his platforms has contributed more for the restoration of habitat than any non hunting group ever could or will. Do your research and then apologize and thank him for what he does for hunters and non hunters alike!

@W M I've been a keen observer of the wolf re-introduction project in Yellowstone National Park since it started in 1995. I knew in 2001 when the Druid Peak Pack reached 37 in number, which, at that time, was the largest single wolf pack documented in history, that their proliferation would be a problem outside the park but in the greater Yellowstone area. I wanted to watch ONE video of a person hunting a wolf . . . WHY??? . . . to see what their motivation and MINDSET was ln killing the animal . . . I think it was candidly revealed in the video . . . his response to the kill was one of GLEEFULL GIDDINESS AND TOTAL IMMATURITY . . . what a joke to put this individual on a pedestal

@W MI believe a rancher has the right to kill a wolf if it is affecting his herd. Was the wolf on this PRIVATE PROPERTY affecting the livelihood of this specific property owner? Maybe it was, it wasn't clear in the video. What was very clear was the immaturity (giddiness, child-like reaction, being flustered and "choking" when the opportunity presented itself) . . . are these the traits of a PROFESSIONAL hunter??? . . . are these the same traits exhibited by professional conservation agents when they are summoned to a rancher's property to take down and remove a predator that is causing harm specifically to their herd??? . . . I don't think so

Congrats Randy! I am confused that you quartered it out though. Inquiring minds want to know... I know you aren’t eating that. Wolves can be carriers of hydatid disease. (and which rifle sling holder do you have attached to your metcalf?). Thanks again for your education and work!

I watched this again with my wife who really likes Randy and throughly enjoyed this. Frankly this is one of my favorite clips in a long time. Clearly the joy of the hunt is alive and well with you. Thanks for sharing, your team was right in having you post this. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving, looking forward to the rest of the season.

Randy what did you end up doing with the meat? Curious as I've been taught to never eat wolf due to hydatid disease and others. Maybe that's just in certain areas?

Man, that's the reason I buy a wolf tag when I'm out hunting in Mt as a non resident, probably won't see one but just in case I do I want that tag. Great video Randy!

Interesting you took the meat. Would be interested in a cooking segment where you utilize the wolf meat. I have had people say cougar is great, never heard anything about wolf. Good job on the wolf, fun video.

Great to see the giddiness like a new hunter has on thier first animal! I'm sure when you have been so many places and taken some many animals it is difficult to get that feeling again. Does this go to show how unexpected finding this wolf here was and to how rare it is to find one Randy??

congrats randy. we are getting more and more wolves on my land every year over by itasca. deer have really been struggling past few years. we had 3 guys sit 4 days in a row on 120 acres, morning and evening sits and not one deer. food plots with corn, beans, clover, mowed trails, still nothing. i hope MN gets their act together soon.

@@rustyshackleford1091 nice, i own property across from long lake down railroad grade trail. but i live in east grand forks, which is pretty much all farmland with river as the only woods, and the deer population and health of the deer is night and day from over in clearwater county/ zerkel. i see 20 deer a day in and around town here.
