I actually think Bd3 makes a lot of sense against the Caro-Kann, b1-h7 seems like the most important diagonal and I find it hard as white to leave it uncontested. But I guess you're right that it isn't really a dangerous move per se. Also, I agree in general that it makes sense that you'd sacrifice pawns and play aggressively against GMs. From a game theory perspective, if you're playing against stronger opponents you want to make things complicated to increase variance. Conversely, against weaker opponents you'd want to keep it simple to reduce variance. However, I don't think you should get too attached to your personal "style" of playing (assuming that your primary goal is to improve at chess). If you want to improve, you should try to learn to play in a variety of ways and do what the situation calls for, not simply do what fits your style. In this case, I couldn't really see much compensation or potential in your pawn sacrifice. It felt more like something you did just because that's what you do. Although that's easy for me to say when looking at the engine evaluation, maybe you saw some potential that I didn't. Anyway, just giving my five cents. Thanks for another nice recap and good luck during the weekend! I won't be able to watch your games live on twitch because I'll be celebrating my birthday, but I'll watch the recaps for sure!

Another thing about Bd3 is that normally the g4 and g5 squares aren't weak, but in the Tal variation they are. With that in mind, the f5 Bishop is currently the only piece that has acess to g4, so trading it makes sense since black won't be able to use the g4 square right away meanwhile Bg5 is always a thing for White (in the mainline with e6 for example)

Thank you for another interesting recap. It never occured to me that, when working remotely, you'd need to find an editor to put the 2D board on the screen, but of course it's not that simple. That's why you're the professional content creator. But the board really helps. It's still a very stream-of-consciousness type of recap that goes back and forth, and it's not always easy to tell what was actually played and what was an alternative possible line, but I guess in the aftermath of a game your mind will still be racing with all the possibilities and you maybe haven't had a chance to unwind and fully analyse? I liked this better than yesterday's recap overall. Shame about the result, but a good game with some fun tactics.
