Thanks Mike, I was inspired by your channel to give this a go and been trying lots of different species cuttings. Do you happen to sell Rhodo seed, or would you be willing to ship a little to NZ? As there are lots of nice varieties I've seen on your channel I would like to grow, if it is too hard getting plants in, seed might be next best option, even just open pollinated. Specifically I was looking at 'Black Widow' you were showing on one of your videos. Cheers

Hello once again, I thought you would like to hear how well my cutting attempts went this year, being new to this. All of the Princess Alice cuttings have impressive root balls after 10 weeks. All of the Mount Everest have not rooted as of 10 weeks. I took 4 cuttings off my Indian summer which all rooted with smaller bundle of roots after 10 weeks, however I potted these up and am now thinking it was much too soon to do this as 2 have already died. The Indian summer Rhodo is not as vigorous as other Rhodos so I am trying to populate them just in case my parent plant decides to die at some stage. I am in Collingwood which has nothing but Pahaki Soil, worse than clay and I have had very good success in digging a large hole, putting some sones in bottom, filling with good potting mix, mounding the potting mix higher than the ground level, planting my Rhodes, hen putting rocks around the mound to stop it washing away. This seems to keep the Rhodes out of the wet Parahi and they thrive. We have a high rain fall just like most of the West Coast. The biggest problem with wet ground is Phytophthora. I have lost a few to this ground disease even after treating with the granolas. I am now trying cuttings of miniature Magnolias using the same method. Will keep you posted.

Hi that's good to hear you're having some success. Mount Everest was one of the varieties I had no success with last year, so I will have to try those again. My mother planted a lot of those 25 years ago and they are now very impressive large shrubs. All of the cuttings I took at new year (this year) have thus far failed to root, my best guess (non-scientific) is that the rooting hormone gel has a limited shelf life, as it had become very watery. I would be interested to know what you are using. I have bought some powder type hormone from Bunnings to experiment with in future.

Oops I just re-read your comment, you said your Mt Everest hadn't rooted - perhaps they're one of the difficult varities.

Love your video. Two questions: Do you click the lid closed with the black handles? Is the large cutting container sitting in a black tray and is there water in the bottom of either the black tray or the white container. Look forward to replies thank you kindly.

Hi, I'm just sitting the cutting container on top of an upside-down tray to keep it out of the inch or so of water I have in the bottom of the clear bin. Water is there just to keep the humidity up. And yes, handles are locked shut, so would be very little airflow in/out, although it is not 100% airtight. Good luck. Bins/trays I just bought from Mitre10/Bunnings (for those in NZ).

I used Clonex Gel and yes, mine has now gone a bit watery also. Do you think it would be too late to do a few more cuttings with some new rooting hormone?

I tried some around this time last year and didn't have much luck, but can't hurt to try. Maybe they need a bit of sun this time of year to keep the soil warm.

Thanks for the video. What should be the temperature outside. Just want to make sure I don’t cook the cutting. Also I don’t see any humidity build up in my container .What might be the reason? Please advise. Thanks for your time!!!

Hi, would've been mid-summer when I did these, so high twenties during the day, mid teens at night. But always keep containers in the shade. Put some water in the bottom of the container. After 6 months I've had probably 50% success rate with rooting. Good luck.

I sadly cooked my first batch by leaving them for a day or 2 in their container like his in a polycarb greenhouse when i thought summer was fading. All cooked! So outside temp SO crucial.

After how many weeks are they ready to plant on their own?

Hi, have a look at my other video where I lift and plant kzread.info/dash/bejne/l2mTr65rl9m-oJM.html It would usually be minimum 2 months until there are sufficient roots to transplant I think.

Hi, from mid-summer to autumn.

Hi please can you also show how to revive Hibiscus which has got only roots but not any leaves in it? and i cut the stem to very small becoz it was drying out very slowly and slowly😞
