I Rode A Honda NT 1100 | Best Surprise

Honda NT 1100. I Rode A Honda NT 1100 and it was the Best Surprise I could have had. I rode the Honda NT 1100 with the DCT which is the auto gearbox version. The engine is superb and overall the bike outperforms how I expected. The Honda NT 1100 is fantastic value as coming in a lot cheaper than other brands and fully loaded. The Honda NT 1100 would be a great all around touring and commuter bike, however I would be very specific what options I would have on it.

If you change gears in a manual gearbox you decide what gear and you use your left foot and select the gear you like. In DCT if you feel it's not in the gear you prefer you simply tap your left forefinger or left thumb and the gear changes promptly to what gear you wish. Why are you thinking the bike holds the gear too long? In a manual box you would change it. In a DCT you can change it too. Anytime. DCT allows much more flexibility and the shift is far better than a human can do. Any speed any throttle position. Just select a different shift mode. I find Sport 2 to be very good but I still fine tune from time to time. My NT1100 never lugs or vibrates. Just learn how it works. The NT1100 has selectable engine braking. It's seamless. Puzzling. For me it's the greatest innovation in motorcycling since ABS. I'm on my 3rd DCT bike. (NC750X, XADV, NT1100). I think if you fully understood how it works you would appreciate the DCT and how it can enhance your riding and you won't have the negatives you talk about. Got 28,000 miles on my NT1100 DCT and it's brilliant. And I'm a retired racer. Manual gearboxes offer no value compared to a DCT correctly operated. They never stall. They pull away from a light perfectly. Each shift (in the correct mode) is significantly better than a manual gearbox shift. Never use the"drive mode" It's like an eco mode for efficiency. Shifts to a high gear and yes it's not fun Try SP1 or SP2 or SP3. Anyway you would do yourself a favor if you understood how it works and adjust to your requirements it is enhances the riding experience. Out of 22 motorcycles over the past 30 years my DCT bikes by far the most competent at changing gears and I will never revert back to a substandard old fashioned and inefficient manual gearbox. Obviously I'm a DCT disciple! Love it. 😊

As a 23 year old rider, I never cared about the big sport bikes and powerhouses that bring you nothing but ticket after ticket.... this bike has the best, outstanding wind and weather protection (therefore low wind noise!) as well as overall comfort for trips and exploring the world. The luggage system is the cherry on the cake, and then android auto, heated grips and cruise control - what more could you possibly want from a tourer? 😄🥰

I'm 187 cm and 95 kg, live in Norway with a lot of rain and winding and steep mountain roads, and then this bike is perfect! Fantastic weather protection, strong engine, lots of space and a lovely DCT box. Why is DCT so good? Do not drive in D! Then it is lazy, vibrates and boring to drive. Use sport 1, 2 - or 3 for very active driving. One of these programs will probably suit you, and then it will shift perfectly. Impressed with how correctly it shifts. It can be driven actively in manual mode. You shift faster than with a quickshifter 🤣 In the rain, I drive in manual in rain mode. Works great! Then you can approach a roundabout for 80km and just slow down nicely and then the automatic (even if you are now in manual) chooses to downshift to the appropriate gear, as you exit the roundabout. Will be the same as using the clutch and rolling through. In addition, you can drive it in automatic mode and override with manual gearing. This means that the bike never gets boring to ride 👍

I have to agree I was surprised how good the NT110 is. The DCT isn't for me either , I went for the manual with quick shifter and I absolutely love it. Theres some new colours for 2024 . Red and blue.. those look awesome. I settled for black. Its Definitely a bike worth considering.

Had my manual for a year now. Best ride ive ever had . Cruise control, heated handgrips , self canceling indicators , centrestand , fantastic windscreen and weather protection, all day comfort riding position. And then theres the engine ,just absolutely brilliant. Great suspension and handling. Im 63 yrs, 173 cms , 67 kg fits me fine but wont be able to pick it up if i drop it. Consider this bike if your in the market for one ,youll be surprised.

    1. You can switch gears up and down manually even on automatic mode, so you can get the engine braking at your gusto. 2. I understood that the 3rd generation DCT on this model learns how you manually change the gears during the first thousand miles and adjust itself to your riding habit.

I understand what you mean about the DCT BOX. however, it’s a ‘learning’ transmission. This means that it adapts to your riding style, it takes a short while to sort itself out. For instance, when I bought my Goldwing tour, it was in 7th gear by 37mph. Now, after it had done 5000 miles it won’t go into 7th until it’s above 65 mph. It also changes down better as well.

Got one in it’s good for getting the job done. The TFT you have to push OK then it activates and I believe they all come with painters standard. Like the comment about the shaft drive as you get older but I thought that’s why people ride Harley’s.

I have the manual with the quick shifter and I love it The left hand switch gear looks complicated but in reality after 10 mins it’s simple. The only slight issue is being a short arse I would prefer it Ito be about 25mm lower. You can ride all day long in comfort

I have this bike since April 2023 , same equipment as yours at the test ride, of course DCT box and I’ve put about 13000 km on the clock and I can confirm your impression that this is one of the best tourers on the planet. More than this, with suspension travel of 150mm and ground clearance of 185mm it is actually an excellent crossover and will go everywhere, where the heavy, ridiculously expensive, adventure bikes normally goes 😊 I am on DCT bikes last seven years and I can tell you, if you take time to educate and train yourself to master your DCT skills, you will never be sorry 😊. I bag your pardons, but it’s pretty obvious you don’t know how to deal with it - not yet. Thank you for the video and for sharing your thoughts! I wish you good luck and great fun with your new bike 😊

I bought my 2023 DCT in April. I have driven 12000 km on it and I love it. I have a stiff left ankle therefore a DCT. D mode I don't like so that's why I run in S1 or S2. Great motorcycle for holidays and long trips.

Hint from one who has owned 4 DCT bikes and rented two others the simple solution is to just ride set up a custom mode to suit yourself and your desired throttle response.

My service plan was £599 and it goes off the mileage, so i have to do 8,000 miles a year. Its only for 3 services? 600,8000 and 16,000. The difference is mine will have a top end valve adjustment service and air filters replaced and other bits and bobs, and has to be done within 2 years. The other plan goes of time and only gets oil and filter for all services. I've done 11,000 in a year! All pleasure miles. You should of spent a bit more time on DCT and tried S1 or S2. The DCT should read D is economy, S1 Drive, S2 Sport and S3 Track. I went for manual with quick shifter and have had great time. Might chop it for a Candy Red 1 after 16,000 mile service.

Use manual mode... fastest, smoothest shifting possible. You control the gears, just with the padddle shifters rather than clutch/foot lever.

That top box is much to high in the air. Automatic transmission? NOPE ! That takes away most of the experience of riding. I like the honda brand in general and owned one 100 years ago. Ive been a harley loyalist for 30+ years. But if there is one touring platform im drawn to, thats the Gold Wing. Luxury touring at its best, it has everything including room. Test rode one and fell in love but i just cant get the harley brand out of my blood. I would be cheating. Will you ever find that perfect bike Alf ? Keep looking. One thing i have to say, the dealerships that you are traveling to are very accommodating. They need that sale.. You must be touring the whole of the UK checking out these bikes. Shiny side up 👍

It really surprises me that anyone would prefer manual over DCT. Even the most aggressive riders are catered for with the various sports modes. I like the whinging revs high so tend to ride in S2 and it’s pretty much a perfect match for my riding style. Bear in mind a gearbox only exists due to the short comings of internal combustion engines 😮

Only just found this review and came to say the same thing. All the problems mentioned about the DCT are because he's got it in "D" mode. Mentions the "S" mode for all of about 2 seconds, but then all the shots on the bike are in "D" mode! Put the bike in "S/Sports" mode, it would solve all the problems you mentioned.

3 years "free" servicing... it's £499! 😆Usually your first service on a new bike is under £100 anyway. So, really, how much value are you getting by paying the £500 up front. Maybe saving £100?! Tops. But, you obviously need the money upfront.
