Honda Goldwing Killer? | GWM Souo S2000 GL Has Arrived
Chinese GWM have just released their first ever motorcycle and it is a heavyweight tourer to target the Honda Goldwing. It looks pretty awesome but will anyone in the West buy it?

Not really! I remember when the 1975 GL1000 was introduced. Honda had a big market share with many models of different sizes in the US. The honda street bike sales brochure had all the models pictured from top to bottom with the new flagship goldwing at the bottom. Your very wrong in that the bike was very well received! It was its own bike and no threat to anything else. Even had a funky emergency sideways kick start arm. Some say the same B.S. about the Japanese cars as well; Truth is the Japanese cars actually Were garbage before they were refined later and took off when gas prices climbed. @user-yr1gl3vy7p

Japanese bikes were once called Jap Crap.
For American riders that want a full dress tourer and want a Gold Wing type bike, they are going to buy a Gold Wing. Why? A history of innovation and quality build. There is also a dealer network for maintenance. This new Chinese bike has none of that.

There was once a Cadre of aspiring Electraglide owners who bought Goldwings. Primarily because they were cheaper. History didn't even remotely figure into the equation back then because large bore Japanese bikes were a new idea. One thing is for certain. History has a way of repeating itself.

The Goldwings already have a proven track record. This new bike has nothing yet. I wouldn’t want to be one of the first ones to own it.
I am a Harley guy, but it’s common knowledge that the Goldwing is the gold standard of touring bikes. This bike has an uphill battle trying to get anyone who rides a “wing” to even consider it. But I have to admit that I am curious about what this bike sounds like, as a “flat eight” is a pretty uncommon engine configuration.

Some people pay a premium for Harley, just because it’s Harley and some people just don’t get that and will happily ride other ‘lesser’ cruisers. Goldwing doesn’t have much competition so I’d expect there will be plenty who would give this bike a go if the price is competitive. Personally I think it looks gorgeous, like a wing on steroids. China was given the machine and forging industry of the US & MOST of the West. They make parts for all brands, so it will be a good thing to see complete ventures. I remember all the negativity for the products that came out of Japan in the 60s-70s and we can see how wrong that ended. CFMOTO is is behind KTM and we see how well they are already doing in MOTOGP. Time will tell and pricing will be a good point as time goes on. will I sell my Kawasaki and my Harley any time soon for a China built motorcycle, NO, but I would add a 3rd bike to check one out.

Thanks for a rational comment. Here in the US I'm closing in on 18k miles on my 2022 first model year worldwide CFMOTO 700 CL-X. It has/had a bug in the gear indicator sensors but they issued a complete redesign fix that will be installed next week. My local dealer , who just opened his 2nd dealership in a 20 mile radius, has been great to work with and so far they have replaced sensors, ECU, Wiring Harness, Throttle Assembly trying to sort it out. The Chinese crap story is indeed coming to an end as the larger companies are using quality components from JJuan/Brembo, KYB, Bosch, Continental, Pirelli, and it comes with cruise control, full LEDs, slipper clutch, 6 speed, dual ABS, self cancelling turn signals, and inverted forks with bug guards for less than $7000. In January, CFMOTO announced their new 51%-49% majority partnership with Yamaha to make and sell bikes in China. And, I know of at least three Harley Davidson dealers in New York and Connecticut that are selling CFMOTO motorcycles under the same roof!! In related news Tesla recalls another 150,000 vehicles.......... keep those odometers spinning!!!!
As a first gen gl1800 owner, I could be tempted, considering the 30 K plus price of the current GEN Goldwing. Blue Betty is setting at 250,000 miles, and I’ve been thinking about picking up a current GEN but holy shit the price.
I purchased my first GWM Pick Up over 10 years ago, I'm on my third vehicle bought brand new at this point from the brand. Unfortunately as some would say the Chinese value for money is unbeatable, we've had to learn that lesson in South Africa it's the reality, as for motorcycles I'm sure they'll commit to the same principles and eventually begin selling them like hot cakes, just as their motor vehicles have in the past it's only a matter of time. I own a Honda VFR800 6th Gen, my dream bike but if opportunity allowed I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one.
Very interesting!
Hello, thanks a lot for info about this superb bike! Do you have any piece of information about that bike's weight? Ride safe.
Does it come with an automatic fire suppression system? Chinese vehicles usually come with an external combustion engine
I like the look of that more than the Goldwing, not a lot more, but it's lines are a bit cleaner, and the handlebars look awesome. The Goldwing is my target ultimate bike and I currently ride a Chinese bike, but I don't know this particular company. The bike looks fine, it would be whether or not there are actual dealers to support it as well as aftermarket parts and accessories support. We will have to see by the time I am ready by that level of bike.

I'll be looking for a used one in a few years when my 1500 Goldwing has closer to a quarter million miles. Now, to be frank, I won't get RID of my Goldwing (it'll only have a quarter million miles, duh) but I'd like to think that this chi-com rig will do pretty well and I'm DYIN' to ride a flat eight!
I'd have a Souo in my garage in a heartbeat. I won't touch a goldwing but the S2000 rocks.
Is it actually sold in China, or export only.
Everyone saying goldwing, but I guess everyone forgot about the Yamaha Star Venture/Eluder bikes. This bike straight up is pulling from those. That front fairing and ram air intakes look just like the Eluder bagger. Infact that's what I thought this was at first.
Gimme a cruiser style with that 8cylinder and control over the clutch and a manual shifter I'm sold
how much does it weight?
400 to 450, horsepower, that seems excessive, but let's see what happens with this bike. I'll be keeping my eye on it.
You may be surprised to learn how many Chinese parts are actually on your motorcycles and you don't know it. It will be interesting to see the test rides reviews. If they go all in with, dealer support and a financing arm, floor plan support , factory training, robust spare parts and warranty program, custom parts catalog and sold them at a very reasonable price. They could establish themselves here in the US.

They could have been a little more coy about stealing from Honda. Not only did they pretty much copy the bike, but then they give it Honda identification. S2000(one of Hondas best performance cars) and 2000gl(Honda Gold Wing is also known as a GL1800).
Kinda surprised, and disappointed, it isn’t a hybrid like Kawasaki’s Ninja 7 introduced October 6, 2023. Personally, the hybrid has no appeal to me in a smaller bike but in a behemoth touring bike it makes a lot of sense. Aside from a hybrid distinguishing itself in the marketplace, wouldn’t it check a lot of boxes for consumers looking for better fuel economy and performance?
Thanks for the Video, did you mean 150HP not 450HP? cheers
Is there much demand for large long distance touring motorcycles in China? I mean, there are over a billion people in China, and probably several hundred million who might have the income for a luxury toy like this. But as far as I know the big market for the Goldwing has always been in North America. Well, relatively big, it's not like Honda or BMW sells a ton of bikes in this class.
I have 2 2013 Goldwing F6B's I've customized with everything imaginable for both. One is blacked out and one is a red custom. About everything I order daily for my business or personal use from Amazon is made in China. So, why not get one of these if they're reasonably priced and haul ass. Look wise they're sweet!
You have to remember used price is a percentage of New Sale Price. If the Used price is still 40% of New after 6 years, and the Real Goldwing is 50% of new after 6 years, but the GWM is significantly cheaper to start, you're still $$ ahead with the GWM. And GWM cars have market penetration here in Australia. There's an average of over ten GWM Dealerships in every State in Australia, and their Brands include GWM, Haval, Wey and Ora. The Haval is releasing a hybrid to rival the hybrid Rav4 soon. And currently the Haval in better spec is at least 10% cheaper than the Rav4 with more equipment levels, and its stylishness is great. And GWM offer a 7 year unlimited km warranty across the range. I'm not in the market for a Goldwing, but don't kid yourself. If you're planning on only keeping it for the 7 year warranty period, you will be saving thousands. And, apart from boomers, the economy sucks for all of us now. Those Dollars in lieu of a badge are valuable now. It does seem weird they've gone for the Goldwing now. If the Chinese bring out a 500 odd cc lightweight Adventure bike like the CF Moto 450MT, they'll own that market. And it's a lot bigger market than the Goldwing market.
Im seeing what looks like a fuel cap on the fuel tank...that means all that fuel weight up high...instead of under the seat and low like with the Gold Wing.
I like to know some of the specifications on it. Such as seat height and infotainment
Good luck getting that beast on the center stand.

I ride a Cfmotor gt400. Tech wise is good. Quality wise, still have some years lacking behind the tested brands. Support wise poor even from dealer. Off market parts essentially none. Price wise cheaper then tested Brand but you get headaches from problems. There one person from the chat group had brought a brand new bike for 6 months but had 2 months in the workshop. Problems range from stator coil, auxiliary relay, over heating , co2 sensor, Low rpm chocking. These are problems for a brand imported for 3 years into the country. Future wise, better get a bike brand that is around for more then 10 years to prevent heartaches.
Kind of hoping it does come to the US market. I'd be curious to see real-world user reviews on it.
I own an older Goldwing and this S 2000 is a nice looking bike ... or at least someone has taken nice looking photos. Before this company becomes a player in the American market, they will have to prove successful in other markets. I am old enough to remember when Toyotas were disposable cars and today they are an automotive leader. Is there room for another touring motorcycle? Of course there is and maybe this will be it. We'll just have to wait and see.
I buy a motorcycle to wear it out and not for it to keep it's value, would like to see it put through it's paces.
I would be in line to buy this. This bike looks amazing. It looks like the offspring of a Goldwing and a Star Venture.

The American and European markets are tough and hard to win over to my understanding! Therefore, the Chinese will have to absolutely “nail it” with this new product in every faze, which includes quality, reliability, performance, price, comfort and accessibility of service in the fore mentioned markets in order to achieve greatness! That takes years to accomplish. I can see that happening solely in the Asian markets in my opinion. 👍

It'd be like having a gal with HHH mams; sure, I don't NEED that, but I'd STILL ride it like there's no tomorrow.

Honda I am sure won't be complacent like the british manufacturers were of the Honda CB750.
Can't wait to see one at a park and ask the rider what the hell they where thinking 🤔 resale value will be interesting
All depends on the price . If it's halfe or less than a wing it'll sell . Especially when it's s hand .
The after market sales will be the biggest worry for me. If they only make them for a few years, you are stuck with a really heavy boat anchor. Goldwing made millions and have 50 years of practice and millions of data values for parts failing from dealerships which they improve over time. Virtually nothing form this Chinese new comer. The Chinese bike has likely better performance with a 4 valve head and slightly larger capacity, but moves more into the achilles heel of the Goldwing. And that is it's weight. It would be interesting how that is managed.
We’d all be better off buying less chicom stuff.
Would have to be extremely inexpensive to take a chance on this bike.
Ya…I don’t think Honda is probably too nervous. I mean the Chinese are so well known for their build quality😂….this bike will be history in the very near future, at least outside of china.
They say Don't buy a bike you can't lift up by yourself ,but lots of people still do .This may suit larger riders ,let's see what the road testers say .
P.T. Barnum said it best about suckers and minutes.
One of the websites said it will make 400hp. As a liter sports bike makes 200hp. Took me a good 5 minutes to stop laughing. My kids thought I was having a breakdown. Imagine this revving to 13,000 to make those kind of horse power figures .
If this company is serious about their bike a long distance trip could and should be the answer. A trip from Sydney to Perth or East Coast to West coast in the US. I’d be interested in seeing all the specs of the bike as well. It might be a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
If the Yamaha Venture and the Goldwind had a baby, it would be this.
Yeah … seems to be a pretty exact copy of that Yamaha/Star, which name I don’t remember. Not sure if it’s got the same engine. What if it only cost half or two thirds the price of a Honda? It may well be carried on Honda or Kawasaki showroom floors as those two companies are huge investors in Chineese manufacturing. That is why most Chinese motorcycles run copies of Kawasaki or Honda engine designs. The world isn't a stagnant marketplace. Even the big 4 Japanese motorcycle manufacturers cannot afford Japanese labor costs. Can you remember when Made in Japan= junk. I can. Honda has earned its reputation for sure But i'd be lying if i said that i didn't feel Honda has gotten complacent after so many of their competitors just seemed to have stop competing for that market segment. I highly doubt this imitation will come close to taking enough sales away from Honda for them to care as Souo will likely have such limited and questionable dealership and after sales support. that the average person likely wouldn't bother. but i do think Honda needs some genuine competition again to drive drive innovation and competitive pricing.
We all may be witnessing what happened in 1968 as Honda came out with the cb 750. The first number of years it was Japanese junk ! But now they are selling as a classic and for big money !
GWM Have released the Tank 300 and 500 4x4 that are super specced and ripping into the big manufacturers and have been widely positively recieved. If theyve turned their attention to bikes then the big boys need to be scared.
🤨 HD, BMW, Indian and especially Honda need not give the SOUO an ounce of concern! Decades of experience in the big tourer industry will keep them at the forefront. The Goldwing has one of, if not the best track record for quality, comfort, performance and reliability over the years. The only possible advantage of the SOUO is its lower cost as you explained. But, does the lower price come with a lower overall quality than its competitors? More often than not, you get what you pay for! Or, the price is starting lower in order to test the market. I guess that we will all have to see how the SOUO rolls out whenever that happens! 🤔 🇺🇸 👍
I don't want it but someone will. It looks good.

Lots of things in China look good. They usually fall apart after a few years.
How about: If you want one buy one, if you don't want one, don't buy one. Why should anyone else care? BTW - Where were your fancy Brembo brakes made?
Send us a demo so we can rip the shit out of it😂
This is what the Yamaha venture should have been.
