adjustable everything... She's top heavy and not built for anyone below avg hgt. Most off road action you can just put 2 gallons in her and she will run over 100 miles and be 25 lbs lighter up top. The base model is the same. 5g tank, leave 3 g out and run the bike at 480lbs. Dirtbikes don't typically have over 2g anyway. If you are riding on the road, gas her up and see if you can go 300 miles...

530lbs isn't too bad. But combined with the long travel suspension I can see it being awkward for some at stop signs and intersections. I have a CB1100 which is closer to 550lbs but lower to the ground. Really not heavy in most cases. 6.5 gallons sounds great for commuting or long rides. Thanks for the awesome video as always

I moved to a 2021 ATAS DCT from a 2017 V650 LT. Other than price the AT is all around a better bike imo. Shockingly good handling too, wasn’t expecting that, and I had ridden the 2016 and was unimpressed with handling. The newer gen made changes to the frame etc and it shows. It’s about 95% of the handling of the Versys due to the larger wheels, but magnitudes better on dirt roads and comfort overall. Plus even more fuel range and still low octane fuel. The electronic suspension is like having multiple bikes in one, CarPlay is awesome on a bike and DCT is fantastic. Amazing package overall. It feels no more heavy than the Versys too, which shows how well they managed the CG on the Africa twin, it weighs 75 lbs more (50 with luggage on the LT). Give one a try!

Had 3 ATAS models in the last 5 years, a 1000 and 2 x 1100s and love them. As far as slow speed jerkiness is concerned it does take a few hundred miles to get used to it with the light clutch and the fly-by-wire throttle but once you know how to use the controls it's fine.

Good review Zack. I like the way you discuss the controls and display while riding, just the way an owner would need to deal with the complexity of the controls, while in situation. The discussion and comparison between competitors is valid and accurate. Honda has built a good upgrade to their original new AT bike. I also like the way Honda packaged the bike. Pick the AS version and you get all the pieces, verses getting pinged for multiple packages and individual options that stack prices up and up. I missed the heated seat and grips discussion. Does it come with those two features or not?

I finally got to see an adv bike in person yesterday and holy hell are they big. This Africa Twin is GIGANTIC. I understood the size of a Goldwing (Its like a van on two wheels). I did NOT understand from youtube videos that an African Twin or a Tenere 1200 or Versys 1000 would be just as big if only in a different way. They may not weigh as much but they are HUGE in person. I plan on getting the Honda nc750x or vstrom650 but even the V-strom 650 in person seemed big. But not much bigger than the nc750x so idk. In summary, I'm just saying that these bikes are huge and are super intimidating

@@theautobarber9403 My left leg is partially paralyzed and I cant work a foot shifter. The Africa Twin with the DCT was a good fit to try and see if I could even ride a motorcycle. It was this or the Rebel 1100 with the DCT and I'm not much of a cruiser fan and the AT had better re-sale if it didn't work out. Turns out I absolutely love riding and I bought a Ducati Streetfighter V4SP2 as my 2nd bike added an electronic speed shifter to control the foot lever for me. It's an absolute riot to ride and pretty fast for a naked bike. I'm on the hunt for a true sport bike next. I cant decide between the S1000RR M-Package or the Honda CBR-RR Fireblade. The BMW has so many great features for the road, is highly tunable, and all around a killer machine. The Fireblade is nothing but a weapon of speed which is appealing since I already have a comfortable commuter and offraod bike in the Africa Twin, a decently comfortable naked bike with a true 200whp after upgrades and tuning.... It's a tough call because I can't test ride a bike with a standard shifter. I have to base my purchasing off or reviews, data, and just sitting on the bikes statically.

The only problem being 5'7" that seat height even at 32.whatever" with being top heavy I can't get used to so I am looking at the Honda CB500X and saving for it. Very popular model for us vertically challenged riders.

As a 2019 Vstrom XT rider I kind of miss just sitting on the bike and have fun without thinking about rider modes and every single thing to adjust. But that is the way motorcycle brands are going. Nice as always Zack.

I own an 1100 ATAS and to be honest, once you have it set to your liking you don't have to be making adjustments all the time and do just ride it like any other bike without all the tech trickery.

Any chance of long term reviews on these bikes? 3 years on and I’m seeing these pop up in the local area for about $10K with pretty minimal mileage (under 15K) but am curious about longevity and how this bike would be for a someone like myself looking for their first adventure bike. Love your videos as always!

I waited this whole video to hear about DCT and then it was only mentioned in passing at the end. As a 2019 ATAS DCT owner, I think that’s the biggest reason to pick an AT over other brands.
