what I have found to help is to jack up the front end and turn the steering wheel lock to lock several times before starting it for the first time. It helps prime the system. Great video!

I have the same puller. I didn't like how they twist when I cranked on it. I had to use a bigger vise grip to keep the arms in. Back when I started on cars, I rented one. The arms were short, and there was a steel sleeve that slipped over it to keep the arms from jumping off. That one worked like a dream. But since I barely use it, I didn't bother looking for that one to buy.

Yeah, I didn’t like how flimsy this thing was. But it got the job done the same day so I can’t complain. I need to look into the beefy one you speak of.

I know that pulley removal was NOT in slo motion , but it sure felt like it !!!! Where's my damned IMPACT ! I was also surprised you dont have a pump there you could put on it ? You must have a mind blowing Hoard of parts after all these years .

The trouble with old, hoarded parts is that they are old. Seals dry up. If they don't leak right away, they will soon. Good if you are in a pinch but its best to start with fresh stuff the first time around.

Bill hit the nail on the head. I didn’t want to do this twice or 3 times. For some reason I have a shit ton of small block pumps. I may have had another big block one somewhere but it wasn’t worth the search.

The proper way to bleed air out of the steering pump and lines is to raise the front wheels of the ground and turn the wheel to almost the lock and then back to almost lock as many times as it takes.

There were 3 steering pumps. Used on older mopar the TRW/ Thompson the federal pump and the Saginaw.... The TRW has a large notch in the back of the fliud reservoir and the federal has a small notch that how you tell the diffrence between them the Saginaw has a ham can shape that's easy to Id.

I had to go with the Saginaw,, availability of Brackets needed at the time, LA small Block with 70 & up Aluminum water pump,, Way over boosted,, i will return to the Federal Style pump,, Since my crappy GM pump has given up the ghost..

have a 383 and cant get my Saginaw pump to move forward enough to line up with pulley .is the 440 style what i need . and bracket help ,,,,,,,,,pleasae

Sorry for the late response dye. The 383 and 440 should be the same. Not sure why yours doesn’t line up.

how many groves do u have on crank shaft pulley for belts 3 0r 4

On the wagon it’s only has 2. One for the water pump and alternator and the other for power steering. These are March pulleys.
