I’m a therapist. I grieve for this beautiful young woman. Young people who believe they are transgender NEED deep, skillful therapeutic care. If the emotional/psychological issues are addressed and resolved and the person still believes they are transgender, so be it. But so, so often, there are emotional/psychological issues - often in the family system - that are manifesting in the rejection of the self/the body. No one should make any decision in life - great or small - from a basis of self-hatred. This is consistent as I work with trans adolescents and their families: abject hatred of their femininity (for girls). This needs to be explored, not “fixed” by transitioning to male.

When I was a teen, I wanted to be male because I was bullied for not wearing make-up and being "feminine" enough. I also kept hearing about women having to wear high heels to work and just hated the thought so much. I'm honestly glad that was in the early 2000s, when we weren't as "woke". I might have made a terrible mistake I would still live to regret. I still almost never wear make-up and never have worn high heels in my life, but I don't want to be a man. I just want to be a woman who is not a stereotype. It mostly makes me mad and sad when they already label small kids as trans because they aren't a walking stereotype. I remember when nobody worried much about a tomboy phase in a prepubescent girl.

8:48 This right here is so powerful. I remember growing up in a very sexist household and at 4 years old praying to God I would wake up with a penis. I hated everything about being a girl at that time. Then as I got older I realized that I didn’t hate being a girl. I hated how I was forced to express my femininity. Knowing that interests, colors, activities, careers don’t have a gender changed everything for me. It actually made me proud to be a woman because I felt like it was my responsibility to be true to myself and represent my definition of womanhood.

Freud called this stage in a girl's development "penis envy," lol. He may have been right. Freud believed most women don't remember this stage because it is at about 2 or 3 years old and they repress those feelings. If the girl gets through this stage successfully she will accept her lack of a penis and when she grows up she will enter into a relationship with a man and he can "share" his penis with her through sex and marriage. If she doesn't get through this stage successfully, Freud thought it could cause her to become a lesbian.

This is why therapy is so important for teenagers. Sometimes parents are quick to want to "fix" their child, and see psychiatry as the easiest option. Medication can be extremely helpful, but it is not a cure-all. It should only be used to help calm symptoms so the client can actually work through their problems.

So I agree with to a degree. As someone with bpd I can tell u when I tried to get rid of my meds cus "it's drugs!" I saw changes right away, therefore I couldn't function in therapy and could barely focus. And tbh it was recently. I didn't take them for a week and because of it, I couldn't get out of bed, it triggered my eating disorders and suicide thoughts. When I told it to my therapis he called my doctor, now I had 2 options in that moment either going to the hospital or keep on taking them and on time, and lemme talk u, the change was and is crazy it worked like magic, I started to see how much calmer I feel, I started talking more, and eating normally! It was the moment when it hit me how important medications are, and in way, underrated. U hear a lot of hate when it comes to that and a lot of horror stories about it, but like if u go a bit deeper u will find more ppl just like me. Obviously it's not an only fix but sometimes it should be the first option because when ur brain is unbalanced no amount of therapy could help (speaking from experience as I said) I DON'T THINK THERAPY ISNT GOOD! It's great and been helping me a lot! What I've learned from the recent weeks is that, the right combination between therapy and meds can be literly life saving!

I felt at a loss and simply couldn’t connect to my daughter on this subject. How am I as a father supposed to hold a nuanced and balanced conversation with my daughter on something we both barely understand? We were simply talking past each other and not really understanding our individual positions. Blair’s videos have opened the flood gates for me and my daughter. We have deep conversation and we don’t always agree but for the first time we hear each other and actually have an understanding of what the fuck is happening. Douglas Murray talks about the damaging impact saying every tomboy girl/ feminine boy is a transgender person is having on young gay people and that adults who push children towards being transgender (parents, teachers, health care, etc.) need to stop. And, allowing children who are just at the beginning of really learning about themselves to make life altering decisions is of course a terrible idea. Puberty is very confusing for everyone. The argument for not being able to drink and smoke before 18-21 is our brains aren’t fully developed yet we can permanently alter ourselves through surgery and other drugs? Drinking throughout my teenage years didn’t do NEARLY as much damage as this now 21 year old girl was put through🤦🏼‍♂️ I can confidently say I’ve never in my life done any permanent damage to myself by using any of the drugs I’ve experimented with. I wish the best for Elle and other detransitioners who are struggling emotionally and physically. ❤️ Edit - Y’all making being trans look like it’s a bad thing 😭. If that’s what works out for someone, y’all shouldn’t judge someone for it lmao. Let them be.

I was on the lowest dose 2. I only took it for a month and a half 3. Since I was on gel packets, I had to take it everyday and would take my testosterone at like 5 am then 3 pm the next day or just not take it at all. I was very sloppy and couldn't keep up, although it was probably just my subconscious telling me I shouldn't be doing this. Im living as female again which is good. @@wastedproductions45 I've said it since this whole transgender thing began to become more prevalent. It's either a child rebelling or it's trendy. When I was a teen in the 90s, being gay was trendy. Kids, my friends, people I knew very well and loved, would be gay for a month or a year and then all of a sudden they were straight again. And yes, this happened a lot amongst the kids who didn't have great relationships with their parents. So, I think it is a way for kids to rebel. There isn't anything transphobic about that at all. Trans folks, like Blair, who are who they are and didn't make the decision to transition as a CHILD aren't a part of that trend.

I was drunk every day to stop myself from thinking about my actual problems in life. And started feeling trans. Now I only drink in the weekend for fun and am working on the problems and see that I am happy with my sex/gender you see some guys cosplay female characters wear makeup and still are dudes. Yes I could call myself fluid. But I know my sex is male and can like feminine stuff. I'm just a reverse tomboy, because I still find being a dude easier and more myself. Exactly. My girlfriend is a butch lesbian and for a while was struggling with if she might be trans or not because she dislikes femininity and chooses to express herself more masculine/andro. She grew up in a conservative household and to her, masculinity=man and femininity=woman, in terms of gender expression. Once she discovered she could be a butch lesbian, she knew for a FACT she wasn't trans. This is what we need to be teaching kids, at that age I think a majority of the issues are gender-expression-based.

I have had some trouble with being comfortable as a woman and I am STILL glad I never even discovered gender dysphoria as a teen. I don’t know if I would have been interested enough to do it but I would have obsessed over it, and now that I am an adult I am pretty happy with my life. I am married to a straight man, I am beautiful, and I have a son. Plus I have enough health problems to worry about. I also have a perspective in life that wouldn’t really approve transition as a solution and I would have regretted that for sure even if I liked presenting as a man instead. I think for me, I saw that my brother got more positive attention than I did, my dad was the nice parent, and I think I got the impression that life was better for boys than for girls. I related more to Simba, Little Foot and Aladdin than any Disney Princesses, etc, I liked boys’ adventures better than girls, and their role in society seemed more fun. In retrospect I think I am just broken, and I have a sort of repressed misogyny that says good girls are lame and not like me. I wanted to be the best I could be but it wasn’t working as a girl so I got anxious and wanted to be like my brother instead. I think a lot of these people who regret transition are like this, and what actually needs to be done is spiritual healing and probably some anxiety treatment

Blaire can you address the teachers pushing trans " education " to children. I have a very feminine 12 year old boy with asd, limited verbal skills, learning disabilities etc, that doesn't wear girls clothes ( I've never offered them either) but loves pink, long hair, and playing with girls. My son's teacher used him as an axample on a zoom lesson of a child pretransition so I stopped her mid lesson and removed my son and later she explained that she and my son had " talked" about it ( odd considering he's basically nonverbal but ok) and my son was a girl and I needed to let him be herself. I did go to children's services because I called it grooming but was denied help, the principal had my back sort-of and reprimanded her for being inappropriately involved but how many kids are learning they are trans from teachers? My son may choose his way as an adult but he's a child that had no idea or care about gender because he's disabled he just wants to play with his gal Pals because they are kinder than 12 year old boys, he's sensitive because he has a sensory processing disorder not gender dysphoria. How would that inferring have directed another child? I know other parents who have had similar interactions as alot of asd kids have undefined gender boundaries and it's scary

I really empathize with Elle- especially when she said she didn’t have to be a certain way to be a woman. Our situations seem similar. I’ve questioned my gender since I was about 10 years old. I’m now 18, and after a long time contemplating that I might be FTM, I realized that just because I am attracted to females, because I am not feminine, because I hate dresses and skirts, feel more comfortable in ‘masculine’ groups, my personal expression is gender non-conforming , etc. does NOT necessarily mean I am trans. I might be less feminine, but that doesn’t make me less of a female. I contemplated so many gender identities growing up in the midst of mental health issues and trauma. And now that I’m healing from my trauma and issues I realize that I don’t have to change to be accepted by myself or anyone else. I am who I am. I was so preoccupied by the idea of ‘boy vs girl’ I never took into consideration that it’s not that simple- every boy is not alike and neither is every girl. I wish I could’ve realized sooner, but I’m glad I finally realized, because I could’ve had to go through the stress and pain Elle is currently going through if I decided to transition when I was younger. My heart goes out to Elle (and Blaire too, she’s great). This was a nice video.

Regarding her voice!! Elle, and any other individual who is unhappy with their voice can go to a speech-language pathologist to change the pitch of their voice in a SAFE way! Trying to modify the pitch of your voice is very doable, but should be done with research based approaches and medically monitored with instrumental testing/imaging to avoid any kind of vocal injury! Talking outside of your fundamental frequency (the ideal pitch for your body) without the assistance of a professional (a speech-language pathologist) could lead to a bunch of voice disorders long term so it is better to seek the help of a medical professional instead of a vocal coach or voice actor! Please like this so Elle and Blaire hopefully see this!!

Allowing them to change their genders physical appearance and cut parts off is WAY too much when they're not even in puberty yet. It's sad people think that's strength when it's irresponsible.

Your mind and body are still growing and forming as a teenager.... drastic measures are not necessary as you change all the time. As an adult you can decide how you want to live but before that you don't have a solid notion on anything permanent. Parents and guardians should leave these kids to grow and learn. Elle seems like a lovely person and I wish her a happy and fulfilled life ☺️

I am kind of thankfull for that, because I tuned out to be not transgender, in my case in really was "just a phase" and I am really happy to be a woman today. I went threw that phase too. When I was 13 - 15 I strongly believed that I was bisexual & transgender. I wanted to go by “Damon,” wanted people to use They/Them pronouns, shaved my head, wore button ups, and at some point I even bought a chest binder. I also wanted to transition so bad and forced myself to like girls because that’s what Cis males did. I’m 18 now, have been dating a guy for 2 years and am a lot more feminine. I’m also much more comfortable with myself and my body. I know my “dysphoria” was because of my mom, she would always point out the growth of my chest and it made me really uncomfortable, so I would always try to hide it with male clothing.

I felt that the cost compared to the outcome was horrible so I sought other means to be comfortable in my own skin. I had a Great teacher in my Grandfather who was a Shamon and helped me reach a comfortable state of being. :) Being of two spirits use to be a good thing in the tribes, we where looked on as Shamon, as counselors between men and women because we can see both sides and understand what they can not. "If I could go back I would tell myself that I don't have to be a certain way to be a woman" This part really resonated with me. I grew up in a very very sexist environment that had very strongly held traditional views of what it means to be a woman. I didn't identify with and disagreed with those views so much I began to think I wasn't a woman. It coincided with a time in my life filled with mental issues and uncertainty. Those two environments combined I believe is what caused me to really believe I wasn't a woman. Flash to now, and I have a much more healthy understanding of and love for my femininity. If you treat women like being a woman is a bad thing to be, I believe there will be more and more people being confused about their gender identity.

@@mikayla9501 In the past they used to teach children whom were left handed that they were stupid and forced them to write right handed. I see the treatment they use on children/teenagers/young adults and it is still literally that. You like many other kids are wired differently and to partake in this society you have to conform to the immesurably high standards/pressure society demands from you. So they make you fit in with drugs, instead of teaching you to learn from your own behaviour. I had mental issues myself and for me (not recommended for anyone that actually needs it), but for me i have refused treatment. Best decision i have ever made in my life, and you will learn when you are older that the ultimate contentment with the self comes when you are able to identify and articulate your own issues and deal with them. Focus on what you want to do and if you don't know figure it out or ask adults because we've all been there. You are at an age with a world of possibility ahead of you. And like me you might figure out that you never needed medication to begin with and that a lot of treatment for example for ADHD, mild autism, depression is being driven by the subscription pad, instead of helping by shaping them and make them understand themselves and their own behaviours. You'll be ok. I will say, that as a former ritalin user myself. It is completely ok if you need it (can't estimate your situation from here), it does have its uses for focussing (dose should never be more than 80 mg a day, if you are on 40 MG like i was that is completely ok). But feel free to quit as well. And at some point you will find out, you don't need it. Don't use it in the weekends and in the holidays, then go to a few classes without it. You might notice no difference at all.

You can be charged with a felony such as murder, robbery, assault in most states at age 12 and in some states as young as ten years. Why? Because the law says a person of that age has the ability to form the required reasoning to plan the crime and more importantly to understand exactly what they were doing. Further, and this is key, the law in most states says that children of the same age we are talking about when it comes to gender transformation have the mental ability to understand the consequences of their actions. So, if a young person can understand the consequences of being the getaway driver in a robbery, whey are they too young to understand the consequences of putting puberty on hold?

@@SiobhanS1868 I agree with you. In some states, people as young as 14 can be charged as an adult for felony crimes. My point was that society has an odd view of what children can and cannot be responsible for. If a 16-year-old is late to school five times in some states the principal of the school and bend them over and spank them like a child. If the same 16-year-old gets mad about that and punches the principal in the face 2 seconds after the spanking is done, they can be charged as an adult for felony assault. We need to make up our minds about how much can a child reason and figure out the consequences of their actions. A 17-year-old boy can be told by his parents that they have decided to have him circumcised. There is nothing wrong with his penis nor foreskin - the parents have just decided they like the way a circumcised penis looks. No matter how much he protests, almost every urologist in the US would prescribe a Xanax for him to take before he leaves home, put him on a procedure table, and slice off his foreskin - even if he had told the urologist very loudly that he did not want it done. If that same 17-year-old came back the next day and trashed the urologist's office in revenge, he'd be charged as an adult in criminal court. We need to make up our minds.

Im no homophobe, idc who they sleep with honestly. Your definition of transphobe basically seems to just include "do you disagree with trans people?" If your answere is anything but "no" then you are transphobe. I simply do not agree with how people see trans as a positive and good thing. And if you read my comments you should see links to said sources ive come with that would back up my statements. If not i can include them here if you'd like. And you're very welcome to look at my older comments, it's a bit weird and kinda stalker behaviour but im fine with that, i stand for what i say. I do not discriminate these people whatsoever, i simply do not think "trans" is a healthy idea. It seems to stem from a mental health issue, in which case i see it far more productive to cure said illness, than to do what said illness wants. I've also made comparison to BIID, which i've taken from studies done by psychiatrists. Heres what i believe case in point. I’m a mother of a trans man. For me personally, “dealing” with the reality of my child feeling miserable and so conflicted about who they were, was difficult. All I could see was this beautiful, talented person that was full of light. Always made us laugh. Someone who I was proud of and honestly wished I could have been more like at that age. I felt like such a failure when I learned that my oldest daughter was trans. Not because I’m close minded. Not because I’m transphobic or whatever people might think. But because I felt like I had not conveyed my love clearly enough or supported enough or just wasn’t there enough. Now the “child” I’ve raised and envisioned a future for , hates who they are and now, will no longer exist. At least that’s how I felt in that moment. It all sounds very selfish now. But for me, as a mom, it was almost like my child had died. Years have past now and I see things differently but my heat breaks and memories flood back to when I had a teenager that was going thru so much. Prayers to Elle. I was introduced to this channel a couple of years ago by my youngest daughter, for no reason other than Blaire’s world views. My daughter is heterosexual but has the maturity to see past labels and loves people just for who they are. I’m a new subscriber now. I’ve only watched from time to time. So maybe you’ve covered the topic....but do you often hear from the parents of trans men and women? What that experience was like for them too? I know there are support groups out there. I live in a well accepted LGBT community now but I didn’t previously. I just think it’s important to share, when family members “struggle” to accept the changes a trans family member goes thru, it doesn’t mean they don’t love them any less. As a mom, I just don’t want to see my “kids” hurting in any way, shape or form. And if we have the knowledge or experience it may be an easier adjustment for everyone. Sorry so long winded here!! 🙈 Thanks for all you are doing Blaire!! Appreciate you sharing this topic. ❤️

Hey, it was hard for my mother as well, I'm a trans man (I'm 20. I've waited to be mature enough to do so)... It's ok as long as you help your kid and don't be afraid to ask questions. I keep telling my mom no matter what's her questions no matter how harsh or weird it is ill answer it because I understand it's hard for you parents as well. (and family members ) Stay strong and I'm proud of you for doing everything you can to support your children. Cheers.

People should spend more time helping young women who deal with mental illness, sexism etc. Encouraging them to take hormones just makes their situation worse

funny you said that but people always seem to forget that men deal with mental heal issues as well The rate of suicide is highest in middle-age white men in particular. In 2018, men died by suicide 3.54x more often than women. White males accounted for 69.67% of suicide deaths in 2018. i know it's not a contest of who has it worse but it's relevant to your comment.

What a brave young person. I so wish she had gotten the proper help when she was young. It's so hard for teenagers with everyday life. It doesn't help to feel alone and unable to find help. It was hard when I was a teen in the 70's but I think it's so much harder these days.

elle’s final statement about how what you’re thinking now and that it won’t matter in months or years is very relatable to me, i always tell myself that in situations and it helps me realize that what’s happening now, or who am i am now, does not determine my future and change is always possible for the better

@@cstef5592 I think it's permanent because it's a change in the shape of their voice box. I might be wrong but I remember hearing that males have oval voice boxs and females have kinda circle voice boxes. Also, young males whose voices changes are permanent but hopefully she finds a way to have a female sound voice.

Alex Haven Blackburn no because kids brains aren’t developed & aren’t mature enough to make those decisions. You can change the hair and clothes and style but to make drastic changes like hormone treatments and such is iffy. The suicide rate is significant with people who have body dysphoria regardless of transitioning. There’s more to look at here
