I Quit Smartphones

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We have a weird relationship with our phones. Communication, entertainment but most importantly we use them as a crutch. So I decided to switch to a flip phone and test out the other extreme.

I had a very similar experience. I was using my phone for social media constantly and felt like I was missing out on life so I deleted most social media apps and told people if they needed to contact me they could text me. I also got a minimal launcher and hid or put strict timers on apps I still wanted but didn't want to get sucked into. Now I only really use my phone for core smartphone functions like calls, texts, camera, internet browser to look up answers to questions but not much else. Definitely one of the best changes I've ever made. Great video, sums up the experience perfectly and concisely.

The phone you are using has quite a few smartphone features. In fact you can listen to podcasts and music being a KaiOS device. You can make WhatsApp calls, watch KZread, browse basic internet and has WiFi. I been using this phone for the last 5 years now my backup phone.

I have the same phone too and while it has wifi and you can do some basic stuff, kaios is very clunky and limited. No banking apps, no YT music or spotify, no nfc, no messaging apps that are used in my country. In the end I gave the phone to my dad and I'm using and old Xiaomi smartphone which i setup like in the video.

Unfortunately many of these "dumb" phones are just a little too dumb for them to be practical for many people. I live in Sweden,.and my life would be far more unnecessarily difficult without certain apps. Public transport would be a pain, banking (we use Swish a lot for sending personal payments), basic messaging like WhatsApp,. email. What we need is a phone that only has the basic necessary apps that actually make life easier in your respective country,.and none of the crap. Banking, basic messaging, email, maps, public transport. That's it.

Great video, youtube recommendations brought me here, they're very bad 90% of the time, but now it got me to this channel ! In my case when i quickly need to send a file or image to my parents/family, otherwise i just use it as its intended for : making phone calls. I don't listen to music that much (i used to but its much less frequent now), same with taking photos, i used to find it weird when i'm with people that take photos every 5 seconds lol.

Nice video man! Keep it up! What’s funny is that I really want to go back to using flip phones, however I am in this position where I really don’t have to since I am not addicted to my phone and I am not using it 24/7. I treat my smartphone like a flip phone or a dumb phone to say the least just to make calls and text and that’s it because I have this habit stuck with me since my first phone was a flip phone back in 2015. I don’t spend hours and hours on my phone at home and if I go somewhere, I would use my phone for like 6 minutes to check some stuff and play games and that’s it. I get off of it, I really just get bored using my phone. As far as social medias go, I’ve tried them, didn’t like em’ I hated em’. I really thought I was missing out on stuff but really, I wasn’t. I deleted all the accounts on the same day I’ve created them without a second thought and I don’t regret it. Maybe one day I’ll go back to using a fliphones, but in the mean time just not now.

The problem with most smartphones is the user, especially with flagship phones. Who needs all these helpers, if you aren’t disabled? 95% of my iPhone 13 I use for disability accomandations, be it therapeutical apps, helping me understand what someone hath said, planning meals and help me understand what meals are ate able and what are just pure junk; the rest is music, WhatsApp, and a local catastrophe warning app. I barely use it for calling family, for it I use a normal cell. It’s easier to dial, especially in dire situations, and hath a torch I can use without opening the phone itself.

it depends what platform you use the GCs on i guess. I still use groupchats on whatsapp for example, but then the groupchats I've been in are never distracting. If you think your device is controlling you or making you dumb,.you are probably weak and dumb already. Grow a spine. I don't ever rely on a phone, but I choose it when the option is easier. Should I carry around a paper map with me when driving on my own or use Google maps and gps? Easy answer. When i take public transport, here in Sweden you need an app. Want to pay for dinner at a small family owned restaurant? Goes what none take cash and often use Swish payments. You need an app. Heck,.I can't even enter my work security without an app. There's much utility in phones, but the weak minded get sucked into stupid apps like tiktok.
