I've been trying to get the RC community into FPV since 2020. It's still shocking to me how much resistance there is to ground FPV. The experience is just so much more fun in my opinion.

Welcome to the club. One of the great things about fpv crawlers is that you don't have to worry about crashing. Now you just have to add pan&tilt to the camera for an even better experience!

Re the bouncy camera: I've had a lot of success using 2 and 3 axis brushless gimbals based on the storm32 gimbal controller. Stabilizes your view and has inputs for rc connections for pan and tilt etc. Won't lie its hard to make it run well. But it can work and makes off road a lot more fun. Whether you have a gimbal or not the best first step to take is to build up off the chassis and mount your camera system extremely solidly. For fpv the Trx4 is an excellent choice! Also your slash 2wd can be a very smooth runner, one of my favorites for sure. As a guy that only does ground fpv its very exciting to see you dive into this! Cheers!

Hopefully now that it seems popular, people much smarter than me will figure out a gimbal system that will stabilize or automatically keep camera level. I have one of those. It's easy to take an old prop to use as a mount and put it inside where it's safe from roll overs. I'm pretty rough on mine, driving on rock features and crashing. I found it was also helpful to tape a stick on top that extends over the hood and put a string with a weight on it since you have no sense of angle. and I've thrown a bunch of upgrades at it. A hobbywing axe motor gets mine to about 30mph compared to the stock 11mph.

I did a little narrated rip with my Traxxas TRX-4m a couple months ago on this very subject! it's so fun! Now we just need to wait until real-time stabilization is developed to put it on faster rigs. I also (not FPV, 2020/21 when I started creating) mounted a GoPro on my Traxxas MAXX and stabilized the video in post for much smoother video. But yea, it is a hell of a good time driving these around. Now put a better control link on it and use that new RadioMaster MT12 with a LR protocol like TBS or ELRS and then you can get further, crawlers don't need a strong link because most are controlling it in close proximity. Great vid!

(I call em sleds, when the camera and vtx (and often a dedicated battery) are all on a self contained unit that I can strap to my rc cars and stuff. My favorite rc vehicle right now is a tiny 1:35 scale rock bouncer with a caddx ant and a tbs nano sized vtx. I drive it around the school where I work, into offices, classrooms around the halls. its a blast! - I had issues with the range of the control link, so I hacked my own expressLRS surface radio and flashed some pwm firmware to a elrs receiver. - Thankfully radiomaster has released a proper elrs surface radio which I just got last month. much better than the homebrew solution!

I'm going to see if any fits a 20x20 stack! 😃 The difference is that I'm building it with 2 sheets, one on the bottom and other on the top, using brass standoffs. So, I'm going to need to make a hole in the top part as well! And, anyway, I'm going to use it for rc cars and airplanes, fixing it with dual lock in them. 😊

cameras cant focus fast enough its a blurry mess unsuitble for racing so close to the ground .. its not like a BIG go pro stuck on the roof then watching recording the live feed is terrible because cameras cant handle focus on the ground moving so fast camera tech transmitting is not good enough yet

@@roblapouple7552pairing a wide angle lens with small aperture and high ISO sensor makes focus irrelevant. Its pretty easy to accomplish.

For those that have ever played the FPS game Half-Life, Joshua sounds like the scientist that engages with Gordon Freeman. (this is meant as a compliment). This video especially shows JB's mad skills in harnessing power.

Next turtle mode. Building with parts you have is awesome. That's how some of us build much of the time. Then head tracking.

It gets boring quite quickly, half the fun , for me, is watching a Crawler crawl over stuff, kinda mesmerising. You just see rocks or sky with fpv, good vid tho 🤙

I've got a couple RC4WD crawlers. The Gelande 2 is on a linked coilover suspension that I modified for a particularly smooth and realistic ride quality. It could be a good candidate for this. I've kind of always wanted to do that. Might have to get another body to modify and place the camera in the cab. I'd probably have to pick up DJI though. HDZero is kinda overkill when latency almost doesn't matter.
