My name is Chris, I am a 3D printing hobbyist from australia. I dont really specialise in anything specific, but 3D printed tools and tabletop accessories are some things youll probably seen quiet often. I do all my 3d printing on a Ender 3, which I highly recommend as a budget printer. Currently I only run 1 printer but I hope to expand that in the future. Recently acquired a photon 0 to do resin printing with. I like to share all my 3D printing ideas for free although I do plan to sell stuff in the future. Most of my projects will be mostly 3D printed with a few non printed components included, these can often be found on ebay. I actually use the cheapest filament I can get for all my projects, again I hope to change this in the future.

Kirby Vacuum adaptor for the win.

I just have to ask, how well or bad would just using the vacuum when soldering work? Will it kill the vacuum? I guess the filtering is actually really sort of good, especilly with a full bag :)

@ I don't think something that can suck up the dust from your floor is going to complain about the smoke from your soldering iron - its just burnt flux. Contrary to what people believe there isn't any measurable metallic content unless you have your soldering iron set to several thousand degrees. I would think like Howard that the problem would be the noise and power use.

It would be nice to have some light in the mounted fume extractor pointing to the soldering place. I like your models and the idea of 3d printed screws for the grills.
The mounted one made me think of Glados. Love the idea of using Kirby as an extractor though, that really is too good an idea to pass up.

Missed opportunity to make the second model just another Kirby that is "hanging" off the arm. :P There would be more of challenge finding a way to give it the same amount of movement as the standard design you ended up making but I'm sure it's possible. :D
@user-vr1zc6tz9n
Жыл бұрын
the problem isnt the movement. the problem is actually modeling it. Even with preexisting design, editing models can be challenging...
I think the most important point about the fume extractor is how efficient it is. It is cute but if it does not filter smoke adequately, I would say it is just a decoration.
@darkracer1252
Жыл бұрын
it's more of a fume spreader because he uses the wrong filter material. filter is for water for a whole other application. i mean you can freaking see through it and he thought it would filter nicely... (plus an extractor would have a hose and the fumes after filtering would be ejected to outside)
@IsoMacintosh

@@darkracer1252 Proper extractor is not a solution many hobbyists can do, this seems quite useful to move the fumes away to avoid them being breathed in.

You are so cool for using the Squeak Squad OST Also both versions of the build are so dang good!! Kirby is an easy design but getting him to actually look like himself is a bit tricky so you did a great job designing him. Also good thinking to recess parts of the eye down to make painting easier. I really like how the boxy design looks. So cool, I’d want that as a small fan at my desk tbh. Great video!

Its just so that the smoke doesnt go directly into your face, which is what happens if you dont have a fan. seen here kzread.info/dash/bejne/l6yGydyDkaWZdJc.html
That filter is not doing much beyond making you feel like you’re protecting yourself. It’s just helping diffuse the smoke so it appears like it was adsorbed when it wasn’t.
I’d like to imagine that you could make a mount for Kirby to make him practical too

That was a wild effect with the fume extractor at the beginning
Love the beauty and function combo of your designs!
"its too big, and for a lot of people that's probably a good thing" best quote in the video.
The animation for the large fume extractor entering the scene was really well done!
"But what if Kirby?" The question we should all be asking
Thanks, I've got that huge one as well, and never use it, so this is perfect. With regards to efficacy, it's all about concentrations. Using this in an enclosed space is probably orders of magnitude better than breathing in that little white smoke trail, which is what always seems to happen to me :(

Well, I can tell my devices are listening to me again. I was just talking to my brother about doing a 3D print of Kirby since I just bought a multi pack of PLA that came with pink. Thanks for sharing the files. Both the Kirby and the model 302 would be ideal for the work I do.
Amazing video ! Thank you , Chris !
This is amazing!! Great idea, and great execution.
Awesome fume extractors! I love the kirby one, but the one with the arm seems way more useful to me.
The vacuum attachment might not be necessary, but is it fun? YES!
I think I'd like one that was a touch bigger, using a 60 or 80mm fan, but that doesn't look like it would be too hard to do and would perhaps give room for a HEP filter too. Sounds like an excellend design project.... Hmm what about a Garfield Lasagne filter or a Scooby Snack air filter... :D

Hi, if you really like the design, you can just scale the parts in a 3D slicer to make it twice as big. Just make sure you remember to do that with all the part when you put them in Cura, Cubicreator or whatever you use to slice ;)
The Kirby anything is dope.
hey your project is very inspirational, I'd add one more thin filter paper, the kind they'd use in the air purifier, it helps prevent the smoke from coming out a lot
I now also want Kirby speakers. Your vacuum attachment brings new meaning to Kirby Vacuum Cleaner.

This is incredible. 🤯🤯🤯
Saw this in my feed, just had to stop by and say this is AMAZING!
So perfect! I need one of these.
So sweet. Edited really good as well.
Congratulations on getting into MAKE magazine!
I think it would be cool if you did a portal core version too!!
WAIT HE ACTUALLY SHARED THE FILES FOR IT?! YES! I'm gonna work with circuits soon and this is HILARIOUS and helpful.
I just got Kirby and the Forgotten Land today for New Year so this is just amazing!
Turn Kirby's arms into swingarm mounts, point his feet downward and add a cape and viola, best of both worlds. A practical arm-mounted flying Kirby fume extractor.
This is awesome! Love it!
You should update this build to connect to a small hose and vacuum pump so you can vet the gas out side

Yea. I don't trust indoor units at all, not even the 1k hakko. Best to have it exhaust outside after being filtered
Perfect to the Stop-motion
That is the best fume extractor ever! SO cool!
Google tracking is good. Saw this on printables last night and now i got your video in youtube :) Perfect
the idea is practical and has an interesting design. good luck
Best fume extractor design ever! 😎👍
Now Kirby will get lung poisoning.
I like the "vacuum" version (for use as a regular fume extractor) as I will be able to add activated carbon in the vacuum adapter part.
This is so cool. I gotta get some piggy colored PLA now. Thanks for sharing the files👍
I love how this is made in christmas
Awesome! I had no idea what a fume was before this video
Looks like knoppersDE also inspired you @1:23 (Bottom row 2nd column)
The cutest fume extractor ever...
If you want to completely eliminate paint, design the eyes so the blue, white and black sections are at least 3 layers apart from each other, and use layer-based color changes. In case you don't know, PrusaSlicer has a feature where you can tell the printer to stop on a specific layer and manually switch the filament colors.
1:22 There's actually a Kirby one right here) Mid bottom.
Kirby needs more love these days
I would argue that the Kirby vacuum nozzle is extremely useful as it brings joy to anyone who decides to use it.
Beautiful
You are right this is the perfect fume extractor
Idea behind a "front filter" is that a Fan generally has a easier job pulling air through a obstacle, than pushing through one. In practice this difference is pretty small (unless the fan has some shoddy construction to keep somewhat of a seal on either side), but for fume extractors every tiny bit is squeezed out of it.
It's beautiful.
Sweet design!
This was awesome!

@SianaGearz

@@crisnmaryfam7344 Oh that's good, thanks for telling me. Unfortunately the availability in my region seems... not really there, but i'll keep looking. I was thinking of getting a pleated HEPA filter such as the one from Kärcher VC3 and using it in conjunction with an activated carbon foam from pet supply store. Or outright putting an IKEA UPPÅTVIND on my desk, replacement inserts are only 5€.
Absolutely love it, could you possibly share the STL for vacuum adapter as well?
the hose comeing from that vacuum kirby gives me an idea: the filter of the extractor does not need to be directly in front! if you place a hose directly over your soldering place the other end of the hose could be having a large filter, and exhaust to outside of the room. you could even use a noisy fan if it is far enough away. the only thing you would need is an arm that holds the end of the hose in the right place and orientation.

Man this is so cool!
Nice video 👍🏻 Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
I just needed 15 seconds. I'm already subscribed.
That is really smart!
I like this, I like that you made this, the world is a slightly better place now.
The Wilhelm scream was a nice touch
man those leaded solder fumes did a number on my brain
If you didn't have a filter, that kirby's probably enough to pull air out of my 1'x1' workarea (it's a floor tile). Been using one of those tiny USB fans for the light soldering i do (i built/flew drones as a hobby) so i don't think i'll need a filter. Nice idea.
Perfect.
So cooool, love the vid
Would suggest going up one difficulty level and going ABS on this one as you can smooth the prints via vapor chamber (don't expose the treads). And then swap the pain to ABS dissolved in acetone. I'll looks less cheesy than the paint. This also could be done to smooth the parts verse vapor chamber.
Wonderful
"Just a sec, gotta change the filter in my Kirby."
Neat Idea. Ironically a bigger version could be fitted with a 3 part filter so you dont need the well ventilated area part. Thats one thing those bigger Very expensive ones have.
I just saw this on Reddit the other day, now it is in my fyp😮.
I just watched a 7 minute video about fume extractors. Good video
watching you unscrew kirbys face will haunt me for the rest of my life
You could probably model a crane(like crane games) arm onto kirby as a mount, and even add an LED light onto those arms to add more functionality.
I love this so much
"Is it useful? Probably not." "Is it fun? Absolutely."
you could make kirby hanging from a parasol, and that could be on a helping hands
That HB2 pencil unlocked an insanely deep memory for me.
lol the smiley face on your thumb
“Not everyone would want a Kirby” and these people are truly those who need a Kirby
Vac-Kirby is totally a useful attachment
I saw this little guy on Reddit last week. Good job!
I love this
*continuous Kirby inhale sound*
Its nice!, And what about making a small resin odor extractor (for resin printers) as an alternative of elegoo or anycubic air purifiers?
