    Martin challenge idea: The brave pawns (and frightened pieces) Your pieces are afraid of Martin, they won't move to a rank if there's no pawn on a higher rank than they're trying to move to. So having a pawn on the fourth rank means your pieces can only move up to the third rank and lower. If one of your pawns gets captured and leaves one (or more) of your pieces on the same rank or higher than your furthest pawn then this piece (or those pieces) freeze up and can't move unless it's a retreating move that puts them directly onto a rank that's lower than your furthest piece. So for example your knight is on the third rank and you have a pawn on the second rank and on the fourth rank. The pawn on the fourth gets captures so your knight freezes and can only move to the first rank. Additionally you could push the pawn two squares to unfreeze the knight, but pushing it only one square won't unfreeze the knight. Promoted pawns are still brave. Your king is brave too and can act like a pawn to unfreeze your pieces. I recommend playing this against a little stronger bots too as Martin might be a little bit too easy.

    Randomness not outputting what you expect is kind of... expected. Rarities are more common than we intuitively think. Getting white the vast majority of times in a relatively small sample of games is not indicative of not being random.

    Chess challenge, if one of your pieces tries to capture a Martin piece that is touching a another Martin piece (the touching distance limit it's like a King move) your piece that tried to capture disappear and the Martin piece don't disappear. If the Martin piece is not touching another Martin piece, will be captured like normal and your piece will not disappear. (Note: the Martin King doesn't need a piece touching him to make your piece that is touch the Martin King disappear, so to checkmate the Martin King need to be a distance of 2 saquares or more). Edited part: is to play against Martin bot

    Nelson, you are definitely playing worse on the treadmill. In the beginning (standard position that can also come from French defense Steinitz variation, c5 by black is an error) you could win a pawn : 1. ed ed 2. cd Bxc5 3. Nxd5 (at 4:12 in the video) then 33:10 - you could play Nf7, he cannot take with the rook because of backrank mate, than Qd5 threatens to win the queen by discovered check and also smothered mate so queen cannot leave (should defend f7). Still waiting for more higher rated games in this series (as I am 2150 rapid and classical player).

  • @tobias4411

    @tobias4411

    2 ай бұрын

    First, winning that pawn is not the best. Nxd5 is playable, but an innacuracy (+0.90 ev). It's even better to play 5.ed ed 6.Bb5+ Nc6 7.Ne5 Bd7 8.0-0 wich gives white slightly better +1.70 ev. Secondly, there is no backrank mate in that position you point to. Nf7?? is a blunder, since rook just takes Knight for free. If white plays Re8, then Rf8 (back again) blocks the check.

    @@tobias4411 this only proves that engine is stronger than human. Because in french defense there is still no knight on f3 and this engine line with Bb5+ and 0-0 does not exist. Nf7 and rook back I just missed, which happens ;) at least you can start with Qd5 - weak opponent will not find h6 defense for sure.

    The line with 6.Bb5+ do exist, what are you talking about? it can be seen in Lichess database. It's 2nd most played move. And the 0-0 in move 8 does also exist, its only played 5% though so not that common.
