@@EvilTurkeySlices Yep. I didn't mention the graphics card because even the iGPU is pretty ok if you don't want to game on it. Usually in the second hand market you would get an OEM computer with 2nd gen Pentium CPUS,4GB RAM and a 500GB HDD for around 60$ so him paying 70$ for this computer and all those laptops is actually worth it

9:43 and 9:56 Always be extra careful when you spray liquid onto the monitors! The liquid can seep into the bottom gap and damage the panel that way. Just spray the cleansing liquid onto your fiber cloth and never spray onto the panel.

Good point although I often spray a small amount at the top of the screen away from the edges, and what runs down does not reach the bottom panel. However as you say, spray on to the cloth to be 100% safe.

That box of "DMS 59 to DVI-D" cables by itself is easily worth $200 if you're patient enough to sell them on eBay. They look like the original AMD pack-ins. Passing them onto a computer recycling company would also be a huge win as they're rather annoying to get and those cards sans cable are utterly ubiquitous.

At the beginning of the video I saw the M2000 sitting there and recognized it immediately. The M2000 was the first laptop I owned and used extensively. It was slow and I remember the CPU fan being really annoying, as it couldn't ramp up or down in rpm like most laptops (it would just turn on and off). But it was still fun to have a laptop and I did many school assignments, some basic games, and even (very) light photo and video editing on it.

Before you chuck out the UPS! There are 2 common problems with them. Firstly the internal 12V battery will usually be dead and should be able to be replaced as they are used in a lot of other places like motorbikes. Secondly in better models there are fuses at the back where it receives power. Sometimes they are blown and simply replacing the fuse would be enough.

When they're not playing ads... which they usually are. Anyway, when DAB radio first appeared here everyone and their dog went and bought one of those little Pure One radios, they promptly started collecting dust because they only pick up if you have your tongue at the right angle on Saturdays unless you're outdoors. I've come back to this video after all these months, the algorithm reminded me of it for some reason. The treasure trove you found considering the price (let's not leave the few "meh" items miss the point) blew my mind. By the way, the title should read 70 AUD, I guess there are many, many of us watching outside Australia. You could only have remotely started to consider whether you wasted any money if none of the machines worked, and still, the spare parts would have been worth what you paid or more. I'd go crazy if I was to hit the jackpot like this.

I think its good that some e-waste is being sold rather than just going to landfill. The cut power connector would have been easy to repair with some solder and a bit of heat shrink. You could have used a connector from a dud power supply. What I can't repair I strip off and re-use like power connectors and other bits just encase I need to repair another PSU or I re-purpose things... even the PSU boxes can be used for other electronic projects. I would have kept the old keyboards and put them aside in the attic because you never know when they will become desirable and worth something. Back in the early 2000s lots of people were chucking away 486 computers, now they are going for good money and everybody wants them again. I love those Microsoft mice. I happened to buy a job lot of 20 of them the other day in white.

For the DMS-59 bit: it's rather Homelabbers who use Nvidia Quadro NVS290 Graphics Cards. They are very low in Power Consumption, which is perfect as they are just existing as a necessary part in booting (on machines without integrated graphics), and video out if things go south. The best part is them being available with an x1 slot, not consuming any of the precious x16 slots you might want to use for network connections or other expansion cards. ...and those have the DMS-59 connector.

the monitor with the failing backlight can be moded and turned to a snowblid side panel. just need to remove the backlight and set it up on an acrylic panel on a white case. would be a very interesting video

Just in case no-one else has already mentioned it, that HP monitor is 5×4, not 4×3. The native resolution is 1280×1024. They're my screen of choice-you can have three of them side-by-side and they don't take up much space but you've got plenty of height to work with. Incidentally, the GT 610 video card can support two such monitors but it might support only one 1920×1080 widescreen. Fantastic value for your $70. Great content.

I had a very similar looking Presario V2000 with the widescreen. Its speakers were toast, celeron 1ghz heated up crazy and SP3 would BSOD when turning on wifi lol. But looking it here refreshed so many memories

I would recommend you post that monitor with faulty backlight on ebay and list it for parts because most of these old LCD monitors fail at the power supply and since this one lights up fine.

When you were cleaning those monitors, i saw some of the cleaning solution dripping down into the monitor's case.. what cleaning product is that? I heard isopropyl alcool can damage screens.

DMS-59 adapters are still decent as they can be used to provide multiple monitors from an older style graphics card - think AMD Radeon HD3450 era. I had to buy an adapter (DMS 59 to HDMI) so I can use a HDMI cable with it. If you were selling worldwide, I'd buy one of those adapters for DVI (if I ever needed to use DVI).
