    At my first ever competition, I got a one-handed single of 14.09 in the first round, and during the finals, I got 14.29 and 13.05. This was all completely unexpected because I average around 20-21 seconds at home, and considering that I was nervous, who knows how I got three sub-15's.

    Practice is about consistency. Skill builds with time, practice keeps the skill close to the surface. But if you’re not careful, all that practice can give you a false expectation that you are owed good performance. Relaxation practice is the most important practice in my book.

    Taking breaks is very important for developement. I played piano at a relatively high level for years, all of this makes perfect sense! It also helps with mental health, and can help steal back some of that passion from the jaws of "work". Two months is admittedly a bit steep, try taking more intentional and regular breaks for a week or two a few times throughout the year, two months sounds like burn out, and boy should nobody blame you for that. But you'll get better results from your break (and YES, this IS a thing) and contend less with burn out if you break for shorter periods but more frequently. Love ya dude, sick times!

    Hi Dylan, I just want to thank you for all your tutorial videos. I'm relatively new, I only started learning in June. I finally got the courage to go to my first competition last weekend and although I was nervous and kept messing up my solves, I managed to get a 27s single, which i was happy with because sub-30 single was my aim for the competition.

    Im going to be honest, I'm not really great at cubing, a year ago I averaged like one minute, but because of you, I now average like 21 seconds wich is an improvement I'd say. I now watch tutorial videos from you and my goal is averaging sub 20 seconds at the end of the year. This is just a thank you :)

    your practicing theory also applies to me on basketball, before i used to play a lot before a game, and i do kinda bad just scoring a few points, but a few weeks ago it was the day before tryouts ad I did not play because it was raining, I ended up scoring 30 points in scrimmage games in tryouts and got in the team, i thought it was a fluke but it actually kinda make sense now since I just got sub 40 single in 4x4 doing sessions when I didn't cube yesterday

    I know this comment comes a bit late, but I wanna share what I learnt from being a professional pianist, which relates to cubing in terms of developing technique, muscular memory, and then the knoledge, the looking ahead, and the understanding of the instrument as in many ocassions you need to play in a different instrument from the one you practice daily for hours. I've learn that expectations and the pressure you feel to perform well are but detriments. I've also experience going to an event under prepared, not having practice as much as I usually did, and the results were just great. After going through it a lot of times and going through a big depression that kept me from practicing altogether, I discover that when we practice so much, we create the expectation of getting better results, and that shield us from doing what we best do. Stress and expectations play a weird effect in the body, and prevent us from flowing naturally and putting 100% of our training to use. The story goes long but to sum up, the moment I was able to make my brain think that I was going to the events to enjoy myself, the moment I understood that no matter how much I train, there's a lot of minuscule factors that scape my control and will have an impact in my performance, and that I should just see it as "let's see in which way this performance is unique and what can I learn from it", [...], that was the moment I reached peak performance in my career, even when my technique wasn't as good as before my depression, I was doing better in all fields. Maybe this comment helps someone.

    Hello J Perm! I know I'm late to commenting on this video, but I just wanted to say that I am a 14 year old cuber trying to get faster, and I first learned how to solve it from your 3x3 beginner tutorial. I'm not constantly watching your videos to improve you have been a huge inspiration to me. I currently average around 32 seconds on 3x3, which I know isn't good at all, but I'm working on it! I just swapped from beginner tutorial+f2L to the full cfop method (2-look oll, 2-look pll) but I have confidence that I will continue to improve, and am hoping to one day meet you irl at a competition or something. I know chances are that you won't ever see this but if you somehow see this then I want to thank you for all the help your videos has given me :)

    Hey J-Perm thanks for all the vids! Been enjoying these a lot and month ago bought the cube to pass the time at work. Now i can solve the basic cube (not the speed obe) some how but only couple timed ones so that made me wonder what would be decent time to solve the basic cube?

    cubing really is something you have to keep practicing. I didn't touch one for about 3 months and started doing algs halfway through from muscle memory and then I just stood there and didn't know what to do next.

  • @ludo3941

    @ludo3941

    idk after a couple years without practicing i still remember most of my algs. I forgot like 20 algs from the about 200 i knew. Most of them were COLL, some OLL and big cube parities (all which I had learned recently or showed up rarely). I'd guess if you spend a couple weekends of intense training you'd be able to remember them all again. But well, nothing out of the expected that you'd forget and get worse haha i went from avg 15s to avg 20s in 3x3 and still didn't spend the time to relearn the few oll i forgot

    did this before last comp, very little practice in general but i didnt really do any practice for 3blind and only did a couple of failed practice solve during the comp and was ready to just not worry about doing blind, but figured i may aswell attempt it anyway and despite pretty much zero practice managed to get my very first succesful blind solve in comp

    @@atharvgulati6425 i have a sub-10 pb avg But im not sub-10 yet.. But i can tell u that look-ahead is rly important if u wanna avg sub-10, nearly all my pause less solves are sub-10 So my strategy is to inspect as much as i can during inspection time and try my best not to pause after finishing the cross and during f2l And turning as fast as i can during oll and pll Hope this helps:)

    I wanna see a competition where it's just peak performance So here's the rules: 1. You get either 1 or 5 different scrambles 2. You have a team of 2 or more people (1 to do the speed cubing and 1-2 to find the most efficient way to solve the scrambles) 3. They'll be given like 5 hours to find the most efficient way to solve the scrambles and then at the end every team will take turns solving the cube It'll be like FMC but fast so it'll be wicked fast

So please, just upload 1 video explaining what happened, that's all
