I suppose. Tf2 may be considered dead cause it’s lack of development but it hasn’t been taken off steam, it revolves around the community that still holds it up

It's been 2,308 days since the Jungle Inferno update.

Funke saying this 2 years ago and the summer update was in July of last year (and was a complete flop & was mostly community maps) and that being the last thing to happen in the terms of big updates to tf2 is scary

Pretty relatable. Getting to that point where we might just have to "go big or go home" in an attempt to recapture that feeling and the full potential of TF2.

Frankly I feel the only thing keeping the game from getting a community run revival project is Valve's admission of abandonment and blessing. I mean I don't know if it'd have that same touch that pre 2016 tf2 had, but it would be a hell of a lot better than the shambling husk of a game we're dealing with now.

@@shadowknight_2505 I don't really consider it a major update, nor should you. Basically none of the content in the update was made by Valve, it's almost all community stuff. Which is still nice, more maps and experimental mechanics in those maps is cool, but to me that just shows Valve still has zero desire to actually continue development in earnest for the game. The absolute most they'll do is shove content the community has made into the game without playtesting it.

5:40 this makes me genuinely cry because of how sad and true this is

i cant believe the two cities update was in freaking 2013.....and that was the last major mann vs machine update....ouch...just ouch

its so difficult to put into words, but watching your channel is so incredibly addictive. It scratches some kinda ADHD itch in my brain, while giving me some of the most ardent insights to the video game community i've experienced, with talented animation and script writing. Maybe someday the game'll get the attention it desperately needs. Maybe I'm just deluding myself by saying that but, hey, possibility's there, slight as it is, and we can all go back to playing the way we used to if it happens. TF2 is really hard to enjoy in its current state, though, I agree, and it's just flat out taxing, especially during the night hours in the States where bots fill up servers faster than players can.

I started playing in 2020. And hearing you talk about those updates makes me so sad.

For there to be peace there must be war. For there to be light there must be darkness. For there to be life there must be death. A candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long, and although sad this candle never ever had infinite fuel. It was incredible but that meaning could only last so long before it eventually burned out. This is not the end however, this candle may be spent but that does not mean that a new one cannot be lit.

I got into tf2 in 2020 during the bat soup stuff, prior to that i did know the game and had a bit of an idea of how each class played but when i actually started playing i was hooked and when 2021 came around i already had about 450 to 500 hours in the game. But looking back to 2010-2017 i really feel like i missed out on what the game had to offer while its dev actually cared about it.

Ive been playing since shortly after Blue Moon. I never actually got to experience balance changes, but at least I have gotten to toy around with 'balance changes' through vscript. Really quite cool

It really is beyond impressive that the game is still this popular even after being ignored by Valve, definitely timeless

@@deathsheir2035 ComsMaster the person in charge of team comtress 2 actually used a bot to bounce from server to server counting the number of real players to bots. And even if you subtract the number of bots (which was around 30k iirc) the number of real players is still larger than its ever been.

In general -lol forget getting into tf2 not happening -do you want to deal with bots or community servers (I’d rather go to hell) -no more attention -voice chat spam -slam your head against the wall trying to kill the 10,000 hour soldier -simply put, you cannot get into tf2 unless you have been in tf2 -the economy

2009 - 2014 was some of the most fun I've had in any game ever playing this. Finding a regular server with a regular group of people who play on it, going from strangers to friends. The hype of the class updates. I definitely miss those days but I'm glad I got to experience this game at its peak.

Can I just say that this video is basically goddamn perfect? Slick animation, great yet subtle editing, really punchy VO delivery, and it so perfectly captures the melancholy of experiencing the golden age of a now-fallen FPS

@@VengyDengy You could try to, but would it really still be possible? You could try with bots, but that would be the absolute purest representation of... well, it's not even abandonment at this point. Depending on how old you are, it's great that TF2 even made it as long as it has. If you're in your 20's now, it'll definitely be as lonely as visiting a crypt in your 60's. Nothing lasts forever, and frankly the opportunity to revel in the prime of TF2 is passing on and away. Fundamentally, it's good to reminisce, but don't forget to let go.

I mean it will be impossible to let go TF2 cuz it's art style is SO well done that I'm pretty sure that in 2030 if somebody that never played or heard of it would probably tell the game is old, but not outdated

Shit, I’m 22. I remember the final day of the Meet The Pyro update being released. I had an IPod touch and recorded the last final moments. When the count down reached zero I yelled “HAPPY PYRO MANIA.” But now, it’s all a fraction of what it once was. I was 12 at the time and still follow tf2 to this very day at the old man age of 22.

To rehash what someone else had said before me, part of growing up and growing old is learning to accept that nothing lasts forever, and learning to let go when it's unreasonable to cling on. On the other hand, I think it'd be great to have the ability to live forever, so long as I could pull the plug when I'd finally gotten sick of everything.

“I love tf2, and I miss it.” I think that perfectly summarizes how most of the playerbase feels. The love for the game is not gone because at its core, tf2 is still tf2. The gameplay is still there and there’s still a ton of content even if it’s not new. But it just doesn’t feel the same as it once did.

@@abcdefxyz2708 the existing comp scene is still broken, a tf3 would be likely if they ever want to make one if they want to make the comp scene that exists right now even somewhat big, they need to rebalance nearly every item, as well as fix comp, which would be way too much effort for how shit the code of tf2 is (just look at the source code leak) it'd be better for valve to make a new game, especially since tf2 is as old as it is, marking up to be the oldest game still running other then say, WOW.

2 years later and this is still relevant.

That Loose Cannon clip was incredible. Just learned about your channel and I'm digging it, man.

I played TF2 since 2014 and I loved all of the incredible updates that breathed new life into the game, we can only pray Gaben is kind to us in the future

the real credits here go to py-bun, she decked the model out with a ton of bones for the clothing/face plus managing to make the custom eyes work despite sfm's extreme jankiness. This was my first video with it so I was learning it all in realtime, but I was ecstatic watching it back afterwards.

man, I was sooo invested in the content OUTSIDE the game back in the day. The comics, the movies, waiting for the expiration date counter to expire with my friend (even though it was in the middle of the night, thanks, US timezones). Yes, I have played, but getting the back scatter while knowing the story behind it gave it more importance. I miss those days.

TF2 was wild back in 2012 - 2018. It recieved alot updates, alot of youtubers played the game , alot of people really loved the game. But sadly after gun mettle the game got boring ish. no more suicide demomen or sandman guillotine scouts. Those days were super fun so much variety some weapons do 1 shot and kill u instantly but it never really mattered because everyone was having fun. Love n War was just the taunt update pretty much

Honestly, it kind of sucks being late to the party. It wasn’t till during the summer of 2020 that I started playing TF2 when my friend recommended it to me. And even then I think there were some bots. So, I’ve basically never gotten to experience the older feeling of TF2.

Watching this video makes me cry, you are lucky the few who saw the updates in action, seeing the comics, I was one who came after the stoping of updates. I wouldn’t wish what happened to the game to my worst enemy’s favorite game.

I love that monkey’s paw reference but despise the reality it’s brought upon us

I remember when the soldier vs demo came out. I was in a server playing dustbowl, and the teams decided that red team would be soldiers and blue team would be demomen, to celebrate the update. We were just so excited for our favorite game, so excited that we celebrated the update without even getting any of its benefits - because we were all playing on Xbox and Xbox didn't get updates.

Funking love your character dude!!! and I know the feeling. I stoped playing for a while after they added wep skins cuz I knew they will stop making new weps, I came back and is still fun.. BUT TDAMN IT I MISS THE DAYS WHEN OTHER COMPANIES GAMES WILL SAY " YOU KNOW I WANT MY WEAPONS IN THE GAME" AND BOOM!!! but now it's just reskin shit, hope they finish the story and they add a bunch of god damn new weapons and halloween bosses, I am tired of hats.
