I miss Palau - Haruo Oka

岡晴夫
Lyrics in Japanese courtesy of あぴゃ ( / @user-xr4ne7sv6i ) Many thanks

Listening to this with my 104 y.o grandfather, many thanks! he was an Infantryman in the 14th Army, 4th Division. Never saw combat though, by the time he had gotten to his unit they were tasked with security duties on the homeland, Sumatra and Thailand.

Yes, Palau was controlled by the Japanese in WW2. After the battle of Peleliu in 1944, it was captured by the United States. Over 10,000 japanese soldiers were killed in action, and over 2,000 US troops as well.

correctly, japan controlled palau with mandate.they are controlled by german before WW1,and after they are defeated, japan controlled with mandate by League of Nations.it's same as Puerto Rico for USA.it's difference other japan's controlled trritory illegally, like Indonesia, Singapore.after japan has defeated in WW2, they lost it like WW1's german.

As in KZread official audio? I do not believe so; Haruo Oka was more interested in live performances as opposed to studio recordings. This audio itself is from a vinyl of live performances, I have learned.

If you want to live by the sea, go to Palau Island. Mariana to the north, Ponape to the south Coconut leaves sway in the night breeze on the island young diver ) Ship song leaks out If you come to the island, take a diver boat Risking my life for the sake of being a man I'll catch pearls in the coral forest The diver's heart sings The high wave swells give me courage The sea is the king of hometown Palau Divers who drop anchor and return waving lanterns are popular.

In the first stanza, parao-jima should be parao-tou. Last stanza, ikari should be ankā. Ninki-sha should be ninki-mono. There is a mistake also in second stanza at sango-rin but I don’t know what it’s meant to be. I’ll ask my mother at some point
