1440p gaming might be replacing 1080p sometime soon, but what about 4K? It's getting a bit more affordable and the hardware can start supporting it. Will you switch or give 4K gaming a try soon?

The reason they don’t worry about putting all the info on the front is because monitors are stored on shelves “sideways”

never drop anisotropic filtering below 8, there's really no point, the performance gain is negligible (most of the times nonexistent) compared to the massive drop in mid range texture fidelity

HDMI 2.1 is for new gen tvs and monitors and consoles and the sort. It is meant to support up to 8k. WIthout a 2.1 supported port on your monitor, your ps5 will not run 4k at 120hz at the same time. Youll have to pick one or the other without a 2.1 port.

I also have a VG27AQ, it's definitely unique - I had multiple firsts. Frequent crashing, no quick source change button, terrible color profiles...
I tested various display setups over the past couple of years, went the 4k path way too soon, when 980ti was barely able to drive those 2015 games in 4k at reasonable details, ditched it back to 1080p, then went double 1440p 27", then to 34" 1400p, never thinking I need more than those 75hz because I can''t tell the difference. Got a laptop with 165hz, that convinced me I can tell the difference, so I have the laptop 16" 165hz 1600p, the 34" 1440p for movies, and my primary is the Dell Gaming 24" 240hz. And I hope it will work fine for another few years, because it is the best screen I ever had, bright, great color accuracy, fast, and it cost like 220 EUR. 27" would be better, but Dell does not offer it as IPS, it is just right size, great spec, and to pay 4x more, it would really have to be a game changer to switch to that.

Yea, I'm with you on that thing about having to eat crow regarding the "I can't see a difference" thing. I have a 1440p 144 Hz monitor and a lot of games can take some tweaking to get the minimum fps up to anything over 70. And I haven't really considered that to be much of a problem. Now the other day I was playing a game that had no problem running at 144 fps. The physics engine was however written to run optimally at 60 fps so it had a built in frame rate limiter. I was testing it out at unlimited first and everything was running fine. So I tested with the limiter set to144 fps and again everything was fine. So I set it to 120 and suddenly I thought it felt choppy. It was a very weird feeling, but definitely not just a placebo effect. However after a few minutes I stopped noticing again. So yes, I can see/feel a difference when I go down in fps. However going up from 120 to 144 I can't claim to actually notice the difference. Thing is I'm way more sensitive for stutter, so back when I had a slower graphics card and a 60 Hz monitor I sometimes locked the frame rate to 30 Hz and enabled V-Sync. For me that was way better than running the game at sometimes 60 Hz and then either live with screen tearing with V-Sync disabled or horrible stutter with it enabled. But in the end everyone have to choose what they prefer and balance their expectations with what their hardware is capable of and what they can afford to spend on upgrades.

I have a Benq XR3501 (2560x1080p no sync and no HDR) for 6-7 years. Time to upgrade my monitor and i see now HDR400 4k 144hz is the base but i will try to go big and get the Neo G8 (4k 240hz HDR2000). Love the 32 inch size. For me 32 is perfect and 34is a max. I think 28 inch and lower is awesome 1440p monitor size.
Dude, so many people just overthink absolutely everything. You have a banger monitor, so enjoy it. There's always something better around the corner and if you keep thinking about the upcoming or just released monitors that are better than yours, you'll literally never enjoy your setup. Trust me, enjoy your monitor. If it helps, it's better to even be ignorant of better monitors existing giving you piece of mind for your setup. Doesn't work for everyone but who knows.
Yeah, maybe you bought your monitor too soon. Plus there’s DisplayPort 2.0 on the horizon.

I gotta say the 1440p 165Hz display built into my Asus Zypherus G15 has been phenomenal, it's really the first time I've bought a laptop with a built-in display that both LOOKS & RUNS fantastic for both media playback + game performance. This monitor looks nice... but until I build my next desktop; the default monitor on my G15 has been more than enough for me. Asus really seems to know how to spec their built-in displays to make the most of my 5900 & 3070. GG Asus you've kept me from straying from my default display by simply including a... Its worth mentioning image in games is a lot better/sharper in 4K without antialiasing? There's pretty much no need for it because of the high resolution. The 32" vs 27" (well 28 in this case but w/e) is spot on, I was on 34" and switched to a 32" and it was just too uncomfortable for Apex/Warzone so I went for a 27" and its much better. Imo, 4K is a bit too hard to drive these days, even with top GPU's, so maybe a 27-28" 4K is in the books for when the new gen GPU's come out with (promised) 50-90% better performance, w/e that means :D

I have an MSI MAG274QRF-QD and its contrast ratio is middle of the road as far as gaming monitors go (I don't count VA considering how incredibly slow they are). I've seen a few reviews measure it around 1000:1 (maybe 1100:1) which is a lot better than another one of the fastest IPS monitors, the LG 27GP850 (somewhere around 750:1). It varies a lot. Meanwhile I'm still stuck on 1080p @ 60hz on an 11 year old TV/monitor hybrid because I can't find a new monitor I like enough to choose XD
