Some tips from a lace knitting lover, Nora: 1) I noticed while you were placing your sts on the tubing that you had no stitch markers on your knitting. It’s really essential when lace knitting to use these to keep yourself on track and to reduce errors! It also makes it much easier to find errors when you make them because you have smaller sections to check to find any mistakes. Place them between each “repeat” section. 2) As another viewer suggested, definitely use a lifeline before separating your sleeve sts and body sts. My philosophy is to insert lifelines whenever you feel necessary (every 5, or 10 rows if necessary). You can leave lifelines in your knitting until you are ready to remove them. I use dental floss as lifeline material because it’s easy to remove! 3) Your idea of carving out a “chunk” of time for lace knitting is really good. It definitely takes a certain mindset to knit lace, and you don’t want to interrupt it once you get into a groove! And 4) as for instant gratification when it comes to lace knitting, I frequently use my fingers to “spread out” my sts so that I can see what they are going to look like when blocked. This helps to motivate me & keeps me going. Good luck with your cardigan; it’s looking great so far!

I also find lace a little less satisfying WHILE knitting, but then so satisfying when blocking. I think it's because it often doesn't look that great while knitting as opposed to colorwork or cabling which obvious neatens up with blocking, but you can still see the different motifs coming together pretty accurately while knitting which is encouraging. Lace on the other hand can be a little discouraging while in the process I think. But then blocking it is magical.

Hi Nora, great video as always😁 I suggest putting a lifeline in your Florence tank before you split for sleeves. I know I wouldn’t be able to rip that back without one, and it’s turning out really beautifully!

HI Nora had a flash when you were talking about JM in rose, close to your JM terra cotta garment. What about a color play w an accessory trio to wear together? I envisioned a super sumptuous cowl, a hat, and fingerless gloves with long sleeves. Could look fantastic together. And that rose really could work as a neutral in combo with a lot of your other garments. I could really see you getting into layering your knits. Anyway just a thought, love your channel!

For the sand cardigan button band I’d just actually do double knitting up the edge and k2tog to the cardigan edge as you go. I just found a tutorial by Handmade by Florence -double knitted edge, that shows what I mean though she does pick up the edge stitches first but, like you said with that long of a edge I’d just do it as you go.

Ask me how I know . . . This weekend is all about my stash and getting organized! I have not bought any yarn this year. The last two years I was buying yarn as a coping skill. I am so excited as my favorite yarn festival is in September! I have not been able to go to a yarn festival in 4 years due to life circumstances! But I will going this year! I still can't believe your relatively new to knitting - your stuff is amazing! I am going to make the Stripe Hype for sure but have 2 in mind! One in the same colors, some of which I have in my stash, and some new colors that, to me, are more nautical inspired. Blues & greens. I live in Texas (heat index of 110 predicted for today) so I only get to wear my knits in the Fall & Winter but I'm taking trips to colder climates so I'm always ready!! Hugs from Texas - Love your spirit!!

I think you could cast on widthwise rather than lengthwise on your cardigan and double knit it but I would try it on a swatch scrap and see if you like it so that you don't run out of the yarn that you've been knitting your beautiful cardigan. The stitches would be oriented a different direction and may have less structure than you want. I hope you try it. That being said i live your podcast and can't wait for Saturdays. I like both lace and cables. Lacework does require a lot more concentration on my part and I'm not a big fan of charts. My brain works better with written patterns over charts. I am in Texas and there is no way I'm knitting outside. It's not even June and we've had multiple heat advisories because of high heat and humidity. Open the front door and you're instantly slightly damp. The heat index yesterday was 107. I'm living for linen and cotton blends right now.

I am "slightly" OCD about combining colours... 😁 I am also excited to see your finished Florence Tank. The colour its great. I have to enjoy watching others knit lace garments as my brain is very, very far away from thinking I could possibly wear something like that myself lol. I absolutely love Colourmart yarns! I have quite the collection by now. The blocking when you remove all the spinning oils is magic! (They suggest using hot tap water and dish soap. Put the garment in but don't agitate and let it sit until lukewarm or room temp. Rinse and then wash again with wool wash). Some of the yarn feels very ropey on the cone and after blocking it's fluffy und soft.

Nora, you don't have to put all the stitches on the barber cord. Attach the barber cord to end of needle the side only until the point where it is fully stretched then wrap the garment around you. After you finish it is easier to just pull the barber cord until needle is visible again. Maybe you knew this but prefer your method but figured I would still share.

When knitting the Icelandic lopapeysa cardigan, we steek it, knit the button band separately and then sew it on. Don’t know if that is more work but if fits very well. Here is one version of this method kzread.info/dash/bejne/pqNq1tGSddjToKg.htmlsi=WUxTvYW_qjlAZYvA

As I was watching your video, I realized that I became Unsubscribed... Oh my my my... I have heard others talk about something like this but it never happened to me before until now. This is so terrible. Of course, I subscribed immediately because I truly do enjoy your videos. Can't wait for you to finish the Stripe Hype Sweater. The type of pullover I like is a top down raglan style. And I like to do them in 1-color only. This way I don't have that much to weave in. If I want different colors in my project, I tend to use variegated yarns for it. But, your Stripe Hype Sweater is coming out so beautiful that it is encouraging me to give it a try. Maybe not in that many colors yet. I will maybe try knitting up in 2-colors when I cast on my next project. I already have 1 project that I am itching to cast on... the In & Out Raglan by Ivana of the The Republic of Me. As I mentioned before, I'm going to use the Eddie Bauer Wool-Paca in color Deep Pink. But, I might have to cast on another one and I will do a stripe. For my stripes, I'm thinking of doing 10 rounds for each color. What do you think? Or, should I maybe do 10 rounds of the main color and then 4 rounds of the second color. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thank you Nora.

That has been happening in and off lately-thank you for letting me know! And for re-subbing 💛 I have been carrying the different colored stripes down the inside of my sweater as I knit so as to avoid having so many ends to weave in. I can’t say it looks the greatest where the new colors are joined in, but I do think it will save me a lot of headache! Lol. I love the idea of the varied stripe thicknesses! I think it gives things a very classic and slightly nautical look that I love, personally! I think this cozy sweater is just begging to be knit in something like the wool paca so i really don’t think you can go wrong!

Hi friend! My maybury cardigan I’m making you do the double knit button band at the same time as knitting the body, and I think a petite knit cardigan pattern does the same. It has been pretty easy to tack on to the end of the row so you should look into it!

HI Nora, I love your stripped sweater, and I'm not sure if you're a SpongeBob fan, but it makes me think of him singing about "the best time to wear a stripped sweater, is all the time" kzread.info/dash/bejne/nnWt1ryYe8Lgn84.htmlfeature=shared 😆 LOL Thank you again for another great video! I have enjoyed knitting with you. I'm currently working on a wonderful test knit for Teti Lutsak, using stash yarn i have had for years! The pattern is called Drevo, I can't recommend it enough!! It has a very intriguing amd brilliant construction. Keep an eye out for this one. Have a great day, Nora!

Probably already brought up but thinking that you can use the same method as for an applied i-cord, but with double knitting instead :D kzread.info/dash/bejne/c5aLuJawkcbXZZM.html - good video for that at least :)

I think I saw a tutorial on a cardigan by kutovakika (sp?) on KZread. She showed how to do a double knit buttonband where you worked it without picking up stitches. It takes a while but it looked really nice when it was finished.
