New subscriber here to both of your channels. I'm also an American expat living in BGC since 2019. Loved this video! Gives me an inspiration to make a follow-up to my own recent Expat Experience video. I had a lot of fun interviewing another expat and talking about our individual experiences.

BGC looks very modern, I really want to move there! Zane, would you want to live there? Would you want to buy an apartment there? Maybe we can be neighbors or roommates! Thank you so much for sharing, super great job!👍🥰🙏

It's great to make Expat Experience vlogs! I definitely agree that safety is the best part of living in BGC. You should also check out Alabang, which is just down south from Metro Manila. By the way, you should try one of their hotdogs at Pink's. My last vlog is having a chicken sandwich there (amazing!!) But later I came back for a hotdog and was blown away. I don't say that lightly...

Great video - I've been watching both of you for awhile and will be visiting BGC over the holidays to get a feel for what it would be like to make it my home base in Asia. Can you do a follow-up with info on local activities other than eating out, shopping and nightlife. Specifically, are there opportunities to take cooking or arts & crafts classes, attend lectures and concerts, learn Tagalog, etc...? Also, not to be negative, but what are the downsides to living in BGC? I'm guessing traffic or weather-related but anything else you can share is much appreciated!

Your vlogging style is unique from everybody else, and I find it very comforting and relaxing. I like the commentary, how you share your experience, and really immerse yourself. As a Filipino, it brings joy when a foreign guy appreciates the beauty of the Philippines. I only visited BGC once, and I am planning to go back there very soon, just to relax, dine, and have MORE EXPERIENCES. I hope I bump into you and have a casual conversation. Enjoy Zane!

I’ve read a travel blog article from the past saying that the main reason why BGC was not planned to have a public transpo such as LRT’s is to keep away people from class D&E. That it would keep off beggars and illegal settlers from roaming around BGC. this is to preserved the status of BGC as premium destination and prime location. This is similar to other wealthy neighborhoods in the US. And somehow I think it is partially true.

Not for nothing...wearing black t-shirts looks good and (supposedly) slimming, but black-colored clothes absorbs heat unlike light-colored shirts that deflect heat. In the Philippines where it's generally hot year round, best to wear light-colored cotton shirts. You will feel the difference.

BGC is a business district and a bubble, a modern green city where all you need is walkable in 15 mins. You dont need a car. But prices are more expensive than the rest of Philippines but still cheap for Americans.

Rich area is not westernized area. It's just literally rich area.

  • @derbdep

chip on your shoulder much? it's Westernized. BGC doesn't resemble Shibuya in Tokyo, Taipei's city center, or Kowloon in HK. those are rich areas in our part of the world but are not Westernized. Urban spaces are very Asian in neighboring Asian cities. However, BGC is rich/developed AND pretty much Westernized. That's why it is good for expats. if it resembled a typical Asian rich area of a city, then you wouldn't call it westernized. sorry to break that to you but that's the truth buddy.

I’m Filipino grew up in Northern Virginia. Lived in Ritzy neighborhoods back in 88 to 92. Point is, Philippines is great for expats or Balikbayans as long as the western standards are there. Dude is right about U.S.A. being divided and I believe expats want an escape from all this nonsense madness of fake news, woke attitude BS. Plus Filipinos are so friendly that a depressed lonely person can feel good about themselves which is a big reason foreigners move there. Im not gonna even touch on the fact of privileged American women being why expat men move there.
