We got our info from here - worldpopulationreview.com/world-city-rankings/largest-metro-areas-in-the-world - I think this is the entire surrounding urban area (beyond the official borders of Metro Manila) 😊

I used to work for the NHS and there were a lot of Filipinos in the department. Their parties were legendary, not least because of the food they offered. Feeding people is such a huge part of their culture, so I reckon you had a ball over there. I learnt about lechon and halo halo, amongst other things, from them and they used to bring the most amazing dishes to staff buffets. And apparently, you can buy all the fixings for halo halo in a jar ready to add the purple yam ice cream. I'd love to try it.

You're one of the first visitors to the Philippines who took the time to do some research. Even did a proper mixing of your halo halo. :) I look forward to seeing what more you have in store. I wish you got to spend more time at Intramuros though. That alone would take hours to really take in the history of the place.

May is the hottest most humid month in the Philippines because it’s the transition from the hot dry season to the humid rainy season. So it’s like a combination of both. So even though April is technically the hottest month, it still feels nicer because it’s also the driest / least humid month. May is where April’s heat and June’s humidity meet

I, and some of my friends and relatives, prefer not to mix halo-halo/palabok/spaghetti and we've never been told off or even noticed by any kababayans, so I don't know why we keep insisting on suddenly having a "proper way" to eat them whenever foreigners try them, as it's not and has never been a thing. We coined 'halo-halo' coz we put a bunch of assorted stuff in it, not coz there's a process in eating it, since there isn't. We gotta stop making up rules when foreigners try our cuisine 🙄

Corrections- Metro Manila is 16 cities and 1 municipality. The total population is 12-13 million. The 23 million you mentioned is Greater Manila, which includes surrounding provinces. But Metro Manila itself doesn’t have 23 million

Its partly true.. Although the actual population of MetroManila is about 14million plus but during the daytime, and on working days, that number increases almost double because people on outlying provinces commutes to MetroManila to WORK.. because its the center of business, finance, and livelihood..

Julia, you sure know how to eat “halo-halo” which literally is translated as “mix-mix”. I’ve seen tourists eat the toppings and leave the shaved ice. That’s how you process the dessert before you eat. Am originally from the Philippines but I’m watching you from California because of chronic nostalgia, lol, if there’s such a thing. even 1 month may not be enough. traveling from island to island takes time, plus there's so much to see, experience, & explore in each of the bigger islands. frankly, 2 months is more like it, so that you guys avoid rushing through locations. as an experienced traveller myself, you'll have a better grasp & appreciation of your surroundings if given more time to explore & experience each destination in a more relaxed pace.

You should visit my lovely quaint Hispanic town of Vigan up north from Manila. It is yhe only UNESCO world heritage City of the Philippines with it's intact spanish colonial architecture and the food is amazing

there are many types of mango here (kalabaw, apple mango, piko, supsupin, etc)... what you got is the Indian Mango. It is eaten when it is still green and the inside is crunchy light yellow flesh. Dip on rock salt or shrimp paste. You should try the sweetest mango variety... the Carabao Mango (Manggang Kalabaw in Filipino) and the sweetest mango can be found in Guimaras Island. while in Manila, try visiting also nearby malls in Makati: Bonifacio High Street McKinley Hill Venice Grand Canal Uptown Mall Mall of Asia, to get the feel of familiarity and good vibes around you before exploring the nature islands of the country. try other filipino food as well in Max's, Crisostomo BlueBay, Mesa, Gerry's Grill...

If i may add, caution on the Indian Mango that fell from the tree. It is overripe and no way does it represent Philippine mangoes in general.

This is amazing, I'm so glad you guys like the Philippines so far! I haven't been there since I was 9 so I feel a bit like I'm seeing it for the first time through this video. And you've even made me want to try halo-halo again; I tried it one time as a kid and didn't like it so of course I swore it off forever, ha. Do you think you'll try going on a jeepney?

One tip when you come to the Philippines. Try to interact with the locals too. That's what audiences love to see. Don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with Filipinos. They are very friendly, and very curious about you. Plus they are the friendliest warmest people, ever. Filipinos speak English, although not everyone is fluent, they know enough to communicate with foreigners, and they try hard even when they can't speak well. Also, one other tip about the food, don't eat Filipino dishes without rice, as they can be a little too salty. Filipino dishes are made to go with rice to balance out the flavors. If you eat it on its own, you can't really enjoy it. Have fun in the Philippines! 10:35 - and just wanted to add... the mango you saw, is called "Indian Mango". The size is just that, very small. It's best eaten unripe, while green with salt. That one is already too ripe and had fallen off. There are a lot of varieties of mangoes in the Philippines (Carabao mango, Pico and Katchamita aka Indian mango). You might also stumble upon the "Apple Mango". It's huge, and has reddish areas when almost ripe. They say, the sweetest mangoes are found in the Philippines. According to Guinness World Records, the sweetest mango in the world is found in the coasts of Zambales, Philippines. But locals also say the best-tasting ones are from Guimaras Island also in the Philippines. If ever you come across these two places, or find these mangoes, go try them! I personally love the carabao mangoes from Zambales.
