Born and raised in the Philippines, now living in the Bayarea. My wish is to go back to the Philippines, my roots. My family is pretty much spread around the world, but to be able to go back to your roots is sometimes bliss! My daughter of course who is raised in the US, would never have that level of affiliation to the Philippines. She sees the country as a tourist destination, never her home. To me, Philippines is still home. At least I have an option. The freedom to choose. Not everyone has that. Philippines is still more FUN🥰

Same here. Now living in Sydney for nearly 4 decades. Love my adopted country but still long to retire in the Manila Philippines. I have a choice as I have a home in Manila. My kids being born in Sydney will never really have an attachment to the Philippines.

The US wanted to protect the drug addicts and drug dealers. The result is what you see in the US now. On the other hand, Duterte cleaned the Philippines of drug dealers and drug addicts. They will not be completely eradicated but the result is astounding. The Philippines became a lot safer than before Duterte came.

I’m Filipino and I love the Philippines for it’s beautifulness and people. I lived in Manila. I currently lived in politically damaged California which are causing problems for the state (Sad). Once the opportunity arises, I’m out of this state. I’ve lived/visited other states which are much better. Texas being my favorite. I will most likely retire in the Philippines for the reason of family. I will travel back and forth. People move to the Philippines for its culture, people, beautiful islands and cost of living. Every country has its good and bad. Drugs, crime, poverty, etc. Sure, the Philippines has big problems with such, but the news/social media plays a deceptive impression by overplaying the topic and make it sound like the majority. We all have opinions and different things we look for in life. Be it in the Philippines, great! Or elsewhere as there are many different countries/places to discover in this wonderful world.

There are so many places you can relocate in US for a better place. Retiring in the Philippines you have to think twice specially in youve been living in US for a long time. Theres places like BGC and Makati, SM North area that are good but once you’re outside that. Its a different infrastructure. Streets are narrow and full of cars-traffic ((there’s freeway-skyway but it’s not enough), pollution, few sidewalks, cars parked in streets on the residential areas very dangerous if there’s an emergency fire trucks cannot go through, the sorounding residentials are non performing to codes and are mixed with all types of houses the good the bad and the ugly. Medical its great if you have money to go to makati medical or St lukes and a few. Its way way different from from the US standards. In the province again its infrastructure is still lagging compared to US. Any cities in PI once you’re there again it’s traffic . You can live peacefully in tbe Barrios and go to town as needed for groceries and sone leasure but not the dame as in US. If you accept that then retire in the Philippines. Your returement money goes a long way if you have a $2000 x 2 for a couple . There a few subdivisions that are great but they are those super rich live there. Theres new housing subdivisions out metro manila but the ssme thing once you’re outside that subdivision you go through all konds of roads from good to bad and traffic. Im just laying down my obervation from living in the Philippinse for more than 3months. One thing I noticed visiting part of Luxon, Visayas and Mindanao. I liked what I saw in Mindanao- the freeways are wide not so much traffic. Ftt Rt om Davao to Gen San to Suktan Kudarat. Mostly wide freeways. Mindanao is not so crowded yet and you can enjoy many many different fruits.

For sure it's different from the time we left Manila for the US, but still nothing compared. My parents both worked at St. Lukes hospital there in E Rodriguez. We lived in the compound behind the hospital and went to church there at Cathedral Heights next to it. They are retired now and back in the Philippines and living in the Baguio area. It will be a while before I actually move back, but it will most likely be in or around Manila and Baguio.

@@jollyrogers5261 Boy have you been to Baguio lately. It’s super traffic. Its just too many cars you’re be driving around trying to get into the city center. Also trinidad valley allthe hillside is now filled with houses. The only nice is Camp John Hay yhe manor and the golg country club and the sorrounding neighborhood. Its just like a bubble once youre out there - the traffic,pollution, too much of everything. Its really hard to go around the city. Again its a choice.

As a software guy, I chose to move here also. Can earn the same income remotely, as well as teach online at a U.S. university.

If you can work remotely that be ideal you got the flexibility there. Access to your funds in USA from overseas is so much better today than before. I never been to Phillipines but from what I can see it's looks like Manila is like a city life in California like Hollywood- Santa Monica

11:25 it’s not a deferral of 120 K. It’s an exclusion, you never have to pay it. Also, since California was the last state in which he had tax residence before he left he still has to pay California taxes

I just don’t understand why people feel the need to disparage on the US to justify moving abroad. They complain about homeless in US cities but they never mention all the slums right next door to BGC and the extreme poverty in the Philippines. Love The Philippines but there is no need to bring down other countries in order to justify your decision.

The comments made during the interview shown in the video are so on point when it comes to the state of affairs in US cities. Prime example is CA-San Francisco (pitiful how badly it’s declined ) and LA . His analysis is excellent with the analogy used in baking a cake. He’s not being a downer ; he spoke of facts. I live in Manhattan and NYC mimics what’s happening in other cities although not quite at the level of San Francisco. People are getting fed up with existing policies under the guise of compassion that have led to a steep rise in crime and lawlessness driving more people to leave the city not to mention the steep prices of everything. This interview was well done . Bravo 👏👏👏

Great interview. I'm with him when it comes to latina women preference being a fellow Asian (Filipino) myself. Filipinos click well with Hispanics maybe because of the shared history... and since English and Tagalog have alot shared words in Spanish it's no struggle to pick up the language. That's so crazy!!!! I'm CURRENTLY IN MY INTERNSHIP FOR MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING in Arizona. I'll have my licensure by next year and will pick up another licensure in Virginia. Im Mexican American, born raised in The Bay Area, out here is a mess, everyone has to be offended, everyone hates you if you love god, I visited the Philippines twice, I even stayed 3 months last year to get a feel on how to live there, personally, I can do it! I felt much more relaxed and safer!

He is an online therapist and that line of work in OC will not get him a hut here. How do I know? My daughter is in the same field. If he’s making money from Americans and living there then he is living a better life. I live in OC Newport and in a very nice and safe area. There are zero homeless people here. Irvine and Laguna beach are upscale too. Did he live in Santa Ana? Homelessness is in the low income areas here in So Cal just like the PI bur your slums are worst. Misleading. The guy moved there but he is still earning dollars to pay for his upscale cost of living in a nice area in a third world country.

Yes for on line job working for outside companies out of the Philippines , yes you have a better deal living there in BGC. Rent alone you’re probably saving $2000 dollars a month of what your paying in BGC. Yeah invite more people to live there. But if you’re depending on a job base on PI I don’t think it’s possible.

Yes try working in the PI and living in an upscale neighborhood it’s impossible. You need to make US dollars. Many employers are now requiring employees to return to the office as well. If you work in a different state or country, then they could look at the market and adjust your pay, require your return, or let you go.

You perhaps should have addressed time zones for digital nomads. The work days are almost reversed depending on the business time of your Western home. Separately I would like an extended discussion about dating as a single male.

I think the big draw of Colombia is US time zones/work hours. If living in Asia you likely have to work nights for a US business.

I'm thinking about getting a course that would land me a work from home job in the future before we retire in the Philippines...so I can still continue to work over there...

I am so glad this got brought up as to how most filipinos in the Philippines treat white foreigners like celebrities. Every time they walk around its more than enough to turn heads around like they saw a real unicorn. But when you look similar to them and you start speaking in english, its an insult to them and eyebrows are raised. I am pretty sure when my husband and I go back to the PH soon for a visit, this is going to be the case and it is very likely. He is white and I am filipina. But oh well. I love the Philippines regardless, we both do 😢 ❤

Single men travel to where the mermaids are to their liking ; where they are treated well and choices abound. Married men travel or retire to where the life is peaceful and fulfilling. Did anyone mention that most filipinos speak English as a second language. In pursuit of happiness we all have our own destiny ( destinations ) to follow. Even the rat race is a choice and desirable for some.

Did he mention what visa he is on? That’s probably the biggest hurdle for any digital nomad. Sure you can go on travel visa for a few months but not ideal for long term. Sorry if he mentioned it but I missed it

Very funny getting " attention" with gay guys! It happened to me when I was younger living in Manila. Thought only in the Philippines. Then stuff also happened to me in Cape Cod & Key West. Both times I was with my wife walking in tourist spots. Suddenly we were being followed by gay guys, one of them said to me from behind, hey is that your sister? Lol

Undoubtedly BGC is on par with some Western cities but it is lacking in quality arts. One can't just spend all day in the malls and eat out every night. It needs some quality performing arts. Stop bashing SF and California -- in spite of the woes, thousands of the brightest minds in the world are here innovating, creating, and producing....Unlike the Philippines whose economy is consumer-based, we in California produce, create, and lead the world in technological, pharmaceutical, and agricultural production...BGC pales in comparison to SF or CA...and on another note, please don't invoke religion...it's simply not helpful...

. You would have to either purchase an IPHONE unlocked & digitally input your sim card numbers. OR - Keep your plan in US and keep it on airplane mode no data charges. You must have a good wifi plan in PI. We usd our IP 13 for 6 weeks over there without issue

You’ll be fine with the new iPhone 15 outside the US. It can take multiple eSIMs. Just get one when you get to the Philippines. Preferably get an unlocked phone. You’ll be better off.

watch California Insider so you would know more why people leaving the state.. most pinoys are still clueless of what is happening around them... as long as they are earning $$$!!! maybe until a crime hits them..

I dont know what you eat or how you can only spend $1000 for food and leasure with you and your girlfriend. I know you budgeted $1000 for rent and utilities. A month .

I’m finding it difficult to understand how he can have 2 bed condo in BGC for only P40k 🤔. He’s done exceptionally well if true 👍. I lived in Makati in a studio for P30k but that was years ago. That was a good deal at the time. I could live there today for $2.5k pm. But in my visits to BGC I doubt if I could live on $2k pm with a gf there🤔. I think I would need around $3k as a single guy to live there at least.

The other day, I watched a couple hunting for a unit in BGC. They found a 14.5k pesos unit unfurnished, nice location and all. So yes, you can live $2k a month and already comfortable in BGC. But plenty of affordable units outside BGC which are also descent and you can live with $1k a month. Your dollars can go a long way in PH.

I’ve never seen any condos available in BGC for P14.5 in a nice location but could be possible. Can you please let us know your sources of these condos. 👍

⁠​⁠@@TFMCebI have been a resident of BGC since 2006 before it became popular. You are sadly misinformed about condo rental pricing in BGC. There are places in BGC where you can rent for P14k a month but you would have to share a 30sqm condo with a 3 other tenants. Not exactly fancy living.

A comfortable apartment/condo in BGC rents for 2600 USD. Food for lunch out is 30USD....he does not know what he's talking about! The interviewer's american english sounds very Filipino even when he claims he was born in the states. You both wish you have more money... Sounds like you both are struggling to make it here in the US

It is feasible for you make a living and able live in the Philippines. As a nurse in the States, I wish I can do the same. I am fortunate to travel often and visit the Philippines.

I think it depends where you are in California. Maybe you’re in the low income area that’s why there’s a lot of homeless people. In my case, me & my family are happily living here for 29 years, no problem at all. Maybe you should know how to deal with life and less complaining. Complaining doesn’t go anywhere. We’re gonna visit Philippines soon! That’s a wonderful country.
